Clean up/merge needed on "Generation Game" titles...

Only just noticed this tonight... the BBC had a pretty tacky gameshow called "The Generation Game", which had the presenter's name before it.

Although most quizzes aren't listed with the presenter's name on the IMDb, I believe, this one is on the system as "Bruce Forsyth and the Generation Game":

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0198126/episodes/?season=1

The problem occurs because in 1978 Bruce took a break, and it was renamed "Larry Grayson's Generation Game". Now, these episodes appear within the Bruce Forsyth title, but they're ALSO under their own title:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32213297/episodes/?year=1978

This can be fixed by deleting/merging the Grayson ones from the Forsyth version. But then there's the problem that Bruce came back for a series resurrection in 1990 and this goes back under the "Bruce Forsyth" title:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0198126/episodes/?season=12

So you've got what is ostensibly the same title, but with a completely different series in the middle of it, in its own title.

Things again get complicated when we get to 1995, where Bruce left for the second time and the show was taken over by Jim Davidson. These episodes are included under the Bruce title but ALSO have their own title:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31860389/reference/

This is particularly troublesome because Davidson's first two episodes were just cover for Bruce when he was ill, so the first "Jim Davidson" episodes are really Bruce Forsyth ones with a fill-in host.

There were also later, failed revivals with different hosts, but let's worry about that later. Essentially what we've got here is two duplicate series.

To summarise, the show, The Generation Game, ran from:

1971-1982: two hosts, no special gap between hosting runs, so one continuous run

1990-2002; two hosts, no special gap between hosting runs, so one continuous run

As the shows are duplicated, it seems that the "Larry Grayson" and "Jim Davidson" versions should be merged with the main title.

However, as there's a gap of 8 years in the middle, it's probably best if there are two titles, both just called "The Generation Game", with a "followed by" movie connection.

I could probably do a lot of this manually by renaming the Jim Davidson version "The Generation Game", and having that for 1990-2002, and then renaming the Bruce Forsyth version, again, "The Generation Game", and deleting all the post-1982 episodes from the title.

The "Larry Grayson" title would be deleted altogether.

All of the various "names" the show went under would be listed under alternate titles, eg. "Also known as Larry Grayson's Generation Game from seasons...." etc.

I realise I perhaps haven't explained this as clearly as required, but how does that sound?

Hello MovieCat,

I can confirm that the merge has been done. It has been determined that "The Generation Game" is a single title that had different hosts through the years. For this reason, it should remain as a single title listing all episodes from the other two titles under the other two hosts' names despite the gap of 8 years from 1982 to 1990.

As well, although "Bruce Forsyth and the Generation Game" is the original title it was released under, the title is referred to as "The Generation Game", so we have changed the imdb display title for that one and left "Bruce Forsyth and the Generation Game" as the original title. We have also added AKAs with how the title was named with each host: Larry Grayson's Generation Game, Bruce Forsyth's Generation Game, and Jim Davidson's Generation Game.

Therefore, we have merged/moved all duplicated and missing episodes into "The Generation Game" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0198126 with a total of 23 seasons.

@Fran Hi Fran, there still appears to be a duplicate title on the system for a section of the run: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32063387/reference/

This should also be a one-off edition by itself, rather than part of the overall title: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0788082

I've never cared for The Generation Game - it's inane junk - but the BBC have just repeated a couple these past few weeks, so I've been able to add full cast/crew and some screenshots.

Isn't this a thing of beauty? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13563610/reference/

It's quite a neglected title, really, but, like I say, it is junk, so...
