Can’t change release date of the movie

We filmed a short film, and while creating its IMDb page we mistakenly listed 2025 as the release date. However, the film has not been released anywhere and hasn’t even had a screening yet.

This is starting to become a serious issue, because festivals care about the release date shown on IMDb. We tried to change it using the available option, but the request was declined twice due to a lack of evidence.

What kind of evidence are we supposed to provide to prove that the film hasn’t been released anywhere? IMDb already states “type of release unknown” on the page.

If anyone has dealt with a similar issue or knows how to resolve this, I’d really appreciate your advice.

Tike: Please post the 18-digit submission reference number for when you attempted to change the release date but had the request declined. That will enable the IMDb staff to look up the submission and possibly give you a better explanation.

Hello TikeMyson

I can see that the submission was already approved and the changes will be live shortly!

Thank you very much, but there is a small issue 🙏

It still shows 2025 on the site — I assume this is a bug.

Additionally, it currently says that the film will debut at a specific festival, which is not accurate. We are hoping to premiere there, but our application may be declined, so it would be more appropriate to list the debut as unknown.

Can you double check now for me? I can see that it shows 2026.

Yes, it does — thank you 🙏 The only thing left is to change the debut status from a specific festival to unknown.
