Solved

Can't change my IMDb contributor name no matter what I try. Help, please?

Hi!

I've recently transitioned and legally changed my name. I've followed every single help page guide to change my old name to the new one, but nothing works. I've even uploaded a photo of the official court document (from Washington state) that lists my old name and says it has now been changed to my new name. Even that request got declined. I have no idea what else to do here. Help, please? Can you change that manually?

Here is my IMDb page: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm16717480

My four films still say "(as Grigory Lukin)" - how do I delete that line? I'm seriously this close to just deleting the damn film listings altogether just to get rid of this mess.

Thank you in advance.

You can hide your alternative names by following steps explained here: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/names-biographical-data/manage-the-display-of-your-alternate-name-s/GHX5ZDWNL7D98C3Q

You need to have IMDbPro subscription to be able to do that but you don't need to pay if you don't want. "Basic Subscription" is free.

I really don't want to pay $20 for the one-time monthly membership, given how the basic guidelines have failed me multiple times in a row... I believe I have the basic subscription (a regular free account), but I don't see the "Manage alternate names" option in my settings... Can you confirm that it's possible to change my name without IMDBpro, please?..

@lilylachance no it's not possible with the regular account you have. You need IMDbPro and claim your name page. "Basic Subscription" is exactly what you want because it's the free IMDbPro option, see here: https://pro.imdb.com/signup/tiers

@lilylachance Sorry to hear about the problems.  To confirm the answer from @ashh2 (thanks) above: there is absolutely no fee required for an IMDbPro basic tier account. To create your free IMDbPro account, please see https://help.imdb.com/article/imdbpro/your-account/how-can-i-join-imdbpro/GDBR9HJWYWLEQK7K and ensure you pick the free/basic option throughout the process.  You do not need a paid subscription.

Next, follow the steps on https://help.imdb.com/article/imdbpro/manage-your-imdb-page/claim-your-page/GXWAJBBV8EVPF3PE to claim your name page.

Only then will the process on https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/names-biographical-data/manage-the-display-of-your-alternate-name-s/GHX5ZDWNL7D98C3Q be available.

Let us know specifically where you encounter any problems and we will be happy to advise you on how to resolve them.

Hope this helps.

@Col_Needham Thank you for trying to help - I appreciate that. Unfortunately, I can't create a free account because I used to be an IMDb Pro member in the past, and now it no longer offers me that free trial option.

For the record, going the "hide your alternative names" route also failed: it wouldn't even let me remove the account/film connection I'd made with my own account earlier. It's right there. O_o

I had already tried to follow the help page's rules earlier, going so far as to upload a photo of the official court name-change document which verrrry clearly showed the old and the new names side by side.

What's the point in having detailed help pages if the customer service department ignores their own guidelines?.. I've been to rural gas stations that cared more about their customers. :(

Since you're an IMDb employee, could you please loop in somebody from customer support? Because I have this intuition that if I shell out $20 for a minor clerical adjustment, that too will get denied.

I am very close to just permanently deleting everything.

@lilylachance Sorry, I did not explain properly in the previous response.  A free basic tier IMDbPro account is free forever; whereas a "free trial" is a period before a paid premium IMDbPro subscription starts to allow people to test the service for a limited time.  The two things are ENTIRELY different.  Anyone with valid credits can have a free basic tier IMDbPro account without any payment ever.  You therefore qualify for a free forever account.

To create a free basic tier IMDbPro account, visit https://help.imdb.com/article/imdbpro/membership-benefits/which-imdbpro-subscription-is-right-for-me/GH39495X7KWY4PMP and click the yellow button "Start free Basic membership" in the lower right-hand corner after all the list of benefits (if you read that list carefully it will explain the difference between a paid and free account).  What typically happens is that if you had a free trial before or a paid subscription, then your IMDbPro account is AUTOMATICALLY converted to a free basic IMDbPro account.  You will know if you already have a free basic tier IMDbPro account if when you press the yellow button described above, you are redirected to the IMDbPro home page.

If you are not redirected to the IMDbPro home page, please complete the details to activate your free basic IMDbPro account.  You will claim your page as part of this process.

If you are redirected to the IMDbPro home page then visit https://pro.imdb.com/mypage/ to confirm you have claimed the correct page. You should end-up at https://pro.imdb.com/name/nm16717480/  when you click https://pro.imdb.com/mypage/

Once you follow either path above, you should now have both a free basic tier IMDbPro account and a correctly claimed page.   If you do not, please reply here with details as to exactly where things went wrong.

You may now proceed to https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/names-biographical-data/manage-the-display-of-your-alternate-name-s/GHX5ZDWNL7D98C3Q and follow exactly the steps outlined.

Please ignore past communications from customer service and follow only the steps described above. If something goes wrong do not contact customer service, simply reply here and explain what is different from the steps which I have provided.  It is likely that customer service have been confused by your request, sorry.

Hope this helps.
