Solved

Cannot add a new episode

Hello Imdb, I'm having a hard time adding episode 6 to the 2nd season. I didn't have any trouble adding 20 episodes, but for the number 6 I keep getting this message: "Error checking updates We experienced an error while checking your updates, this may be due to the size of your submission or an issue with our systems. You can try the following options: Retry checking your updates after a few minutes Click 'Save for later' to prevent losing your work and retry submitting later. If the above doesn't work, please contact us and let us know." I have tried saving it and submitting it again - didn't work. Tried logging in through incognito mood - didn't work. Please help.

@nettiegurl16- Can you confirm if you are still unable to add episodes to this series? If yes, can you share further information, is it the same error message as above?

@nettiegurl16- Thanks! This was rejected as a duplicate since there is already an episode #1.2.

If the episodes are incorrectly number you are welcome to submit the respective corrections.

@Maya Sorry for the late reply

No, negative.  Each attempt to add a 2nd or 3rd episode results in same rejection ";you've previously listed this episode in the same series, as in Independent, which it is not"  error.  Man, this is maddening.

Hello nettiegurl16

There are already episodes in this TV Series, and this is why you are being rejected, you can take a look at the Episode guide for the Series:

Sorry - but the link you shared is for a whole other episodic sequence from the series, not the one in question:   https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3643900/episodes/?ref_=tt_eps

THIS is the correct URL I've been trying to episode update (like others)  IMDb having formatting issues with  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt34460285/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_accord_2_cdt_epp_sm_3

Others - accordingly: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33571568/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_accord_2_cdt_epp_sm_4

and

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33571320/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_accord_2_cdt_epp_sm_2

I don't know what happened. But my Pro account shows each as their own separate sequence, so something has been off.  For months now with no resolution.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3643900/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_accord_2_cdt_epp_t  Was a sketch comedy series I'd co-starred, wrote, directed, and produced. Successfully adding separate episodes and sequences up until the last few months.  Suddenly now getting rejected or erroneously stated as  "already listed"  when they were all separate sequence sketches.

Can you explain what you mean by “episodic sequence”. The links are to a series and to episodes of that series that do not have numbers.

I noticed that there are episodes of that series that do have numbers, all in season 1, and with the same title. The episode numbers are not consistent with the release dates but that is a separate matter.

It is not clear to me what you are trying to do so I cannot offer any suggestions for how to do whatever that is. If you can give an exact and complete description of a specific case that is not working for you the experienced contributors here may be able to offer some guidance.

Hopefully  :)

What I'd meant by episodic sequence are sketch comedies that have more than one aired sequence, like "Firemarshall Bill" example, from the old 'In Living Color' that had different sketch sequences like 'Sante Fire Marshal Bill' in one episode....  "Fire Marshall Bill School Safety"  in another---variation comedy character that repeated in different episodes or sequence (if that makes sense.)

Because my submissions keep getting rejected as "already listed in series"  when I'm numbering my comedy sketches appropriately as 1.1,  1.2,  1.3  etc.    So not sure what I'm doing wrong at this point,  as I've tried to follow the very specific,  yet confusing "Add a title" page under the same sketch series.

When I'd started adding the episodic sequences early on, having no problems whatsoever, in  numbering them 1.1,  1.2,  1.3 etc.  Yet somehow currently, they have been red flagged erroneously as the "already listed"

https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt33377959/

https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt33377995/    :   Two different episodes aired separately on different nights

https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt33571568/    Additional episode sequences airing separately like 'Dat Show Wid Dos Guys'

As far as I can tell from that description you are trying to represent a three level structure. You have episodes, collections of those episodes and an overall collection of those collections. It is not clear which, if any, of those collections are sequences. The sequence of numbers for the episodes with numbers does not match the sequence of air dates.

An IMDb TV Series is based on there being a single sequence of episodes where the episode numbers match the sequence of air dates. The series may be a sequence of seasons but in that case the seasons do not overlap. Some series do not have seasons and the episodes are numbered as if they are all part of season 1.

There is an established way to represent a single episode between seasons that is not part of the season before or after it but we already have trouble if there is more than one and they cannot be considered a season in their own right.

As far as I know there is no direct way to represent a three level structure within the existing IMDb series model so you need to find a way to map the three level structure to the series model within the rules. The rule that seems to be the immediate issue is that you cannot have two episodes with the same number in a series even if they also have different titles.
