Cannes Director's Fortnight Page

I discovered that in the awards and events section there is a separate Cannes Director's Fortnight page
https://www.imdb.com/event/ev0030362/overview/

Considering that Cannes Director's Fortnight is one of the parallel sections of the Cannes Film Festival, there is hardly a need for a separate page (it’s even surprising that the moderator missed this; usually, in order to add a new award or event, you have to correspond a thousand times and prove that the event needs to be added) .
Well, secondly, having examined the content of the already added titles, I came to the conclusion that this is just a set of lineups, and not a reflection of the competition, but at the same time the films receive a reflection of the nominee.

Den: This is a complicated situation and I'm not sure exactly how IMDb should deal with it.

The Directors' Fortnight is mostly separate from the main Cannes Film Festival. It has a different leadership and different corporate sponsors. However, accredited badgeholders of the main festival are admitted to screenings at the Fortnight.

The Fortnight describes itself as "non-competitive" (see https://www.quinzaine-cineastes.fr/en/who-we-are). So, by itself, that would suggest that it shouldn't be listed in IMDb's events section because it's not an awards event.

However, starting this year, they have established a "people's choice" award which comes with 7,500 euros in prize money (see https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/cannes-audience-award-chantal-akerman-directors-fortnight-1235861089/).

Also, Wikipedia says that there are other awards associated with the Fortnight (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directors%27_Fortnight), most prominently the Europa Cinemas Label Award dating back to 2003.

usually, in order to add a new award or event, you have to correspond a thousand times and prove that the event needs to be added

That's the only part I am sure about here. The Directors' Fortnight has been held at Cannes since 1969. There are plenty of sources to establish that it's a significant event. The question, to me, is how long it has been an awards event.

@gromit82Well, firstly, all the Directors' Fortnight awards have long been posted in the imdb on the Cannes Film Festival page. It’s probably worth recalling that all debuts in the Directors’ Fortnight program are nominees (I really don’t like this term in relation to festivals, not film awards, but that’s how the site’s architecture works) for the Camera d’Or, simultaneously with debuts from the official program of the Cannes Film Festival. FIPRESCI also awards a prize to a film from a parallel section, combining the Fortnight and Criticis` Week (another parallel section). And I'm not even talking about Queer Palms and Palm Dog.

The same situation with Teddy at the Berlinale - there was a case that someone made a separate tab, but then it was deleted and everything was returned to the Berlinale and Giornate degli Autori section at the Venice Film Festival. Yes, indeed, all these parallel sections and affiliated events seem to have their own structure, but they are still included in the main festival, and half of them, let’s call them “nominees,” have overlaps with participants from the main or other parallel sections. If we separate them all, then it would be reasonable, for example, to single out the FIPRESCI prize from all the festivals and make it a separate page. For example, at the festival in San Sebastian, FIPRESCI awards a prize not to a film from the festival’s lineup, but its own Grand Prix, the festival becomes simply a platform for awards. But this prize fits into the San Sebastian awards.

Hello den_budanov,

I can confirm that this issue has now been resolved. We will be listing the winners on the main Cannes page and for the secondary Directors Fortnite page we will remove it. Anything listed under Directors Fortnite will be moved to the main page.
