Brent and Stuart Tarleton

It was stated in another thread that IMDb lists character names as they appear in on-screen credits, even if there is a character name error.

An example of a character name error on screen that I first learned of at IMDb is from Gone with the Wind. As it says in the Crazy Credits page:

George Reeves is credited as playing the part of Brent Tarleton, and Fred Crane is billed as Stuart Tarleton. This is incorrect: Crane played Brent, and Reeves played Stuart.

It used to be that IMDb's cast list also listed the character names as they appeared in the credits (I referenced it here). But I learned recently that they were switched (apparently already in December 2019). I'm wondering if that was on purpose or a mistake.

Hi Peter_pbn -

It is still our policy to list credits exactly as they appear on-screen (even if there is an error), so if the character names were swapped on the title page cast list for "Gone with the Wind", this would have been a mistake.

As I understand, the correct on-screen credits show 'George Reeves' playing the role of "Brent Tarleton" and 'Fred Crane' playing the role of "Stuart Tarleton", is that correct?

Hi @Peter_pbn -

Thanks for the update, the credits are now displaying the correct names as per the on-screen credit.  Cheers!

This was changed back again, apparently within three months of the posts above.

If you still think the character names should be listed as on screen, I would suggest correcting and locking the credits.
