Best of the Best Review Bombing

There appears to be an extremely unusual concentration of ratings coming from Sri Lanka. According to IMDb’s country-filtered ratings breakdown, approximately 1,300 ratings currently come from Sri Lanka, and 90.8% of those ratings are 1/10. By comparison, the ratings visible from other countries appear substantially more distributed across the 1-10 scale. I’ve attached screenshots of the country breakdown for reference.

I completely understand that viewers are entitled to dislike a film and rate it accordingly, and I am not asking IMDb to remove legitimate negative opinions. My concern is specifically whether the extraordinary concentration and pattern of these ratings could indicate an organized attempt to artificially influence the film’s score rather than ordinary audience sentiment.

This film means a great deal to many viewers, particularly members of the South Asian diaspora who rarely have the opportunity to see a large-scale American coming-of-age film center their experiences so fully. Of course, that does not mean the film should be insulated from genuine criticism. It simply makes it especially important that its audience rating reflects authentic viewer opinion rather than any attempt to artificially distort that reception.
