Basic flaw of Series listing!

Hello,

I am a retired librarian and have been cataloguing & listing books and media throughout my professional career.

When it comes to listing Miniseries & Multi-episode series, there seems to be (I'm new and have so far only managed to add 1 Film to the data base!) a basic flaw.

When it comes to listing data that apply to the entire series, these data should go into a 'general section', and not have to be repeated for every episode!

e.g.

1. If all the episodes of a miniseries have been released in the same year, the release date should go to this general section. Episodes 1-4 (2012)

2. Actors playing the main characters in every episode should also go into the general section (Tony Shalhoub, Ted Levine etc. in "Monk")

The same practically applies to all permanent contributors.

3. A general plot should also describe the series (ingenious detective with a host of compulsive disorders & phobias solves criminal cases in Sherlock Holmes fashion).or 'The ordeal of a group of young female Soviet snipers at the Eastern front in World War 2'

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the site.

1. The exact air dates for each episode are not usually the same, so dates need to be listed for each episode.

2. A general section for series cast was IMDb's former practice, which they abandoned some years ago, so they probably won't go back.

3. All series are meant to have a general plot description. If they don't, it can be added.

No. 2. Having to repeat the main charactors/actors for every episode (e.g. Monk) is a superfluous nuisance.

The cast tends to be credited in each episode, so you could say IMDb is just archiving those credits. It also avoids any issues of how to categorize main cast and guest stars, and it produces an episode count for each cast member.

Sorry, NOT convinced! How can there be issues about characters that feature in 99 % of all episodes?

A bit different to dealing with books eh Mike, welcome to Hollywood. You'll get used to it.

Well, nowadays nearly all "libraries" offer dvds, too!
