Are text-to-speech/speech synthesis casts allowed on IMDb?
I've been wondering whether text-to-speech is allowed in casts. Some films, series, and games use speech synthesis instead of real actors, but I don't know if IMDb allows it or if it's only permitted with real actors, without AI or speech synthesis voices. There was a film example, WALL-E, where the steering robot AUTO was voiced using MacInTalk, Apple's speech synthesis program. Despite this, I'm still unsure if it's even allowed to use a computer-generated voice in a cast. So, my question is: can voices that aren't from real people be added to a cast? I just want to be sure for my future contributor.

Hi Ravendark -
Currently, all AI and digital characters or personas are consolidated under a single, unified “Digital Performer (Various)” Name page. Digital Performer (Various) represents the collective presence of artificially intelligent performers, personas, and synthetic voices appearing in entertainment media. Some examples include text-to-speech systems like MacInTalk (which you mentioned), virtual assistants such as Siri and Alexa, and generative AI characters.
Be aware that at the moment, only Name Credits submitted to the category of "Self" are acceptable on the name page.
I hope this update helps!
