Annoyance of instantaneous contribution receipts

I have started receiving instantaneous receipts from IMDb for each of my contributions.  This is very annoying and bothersome and even potentially dangerous.

I receive important medical monitoring information in my e-mails.  Now, I have to wade through these unnecessary IMDb receipts to get those needed e-mails.

Is there some way to "turn off" these receipts?  I do not need them, nor do I want them.

You weren't receiving them before? Did you have a different email attached to your account and changed it? I don't think it was possible to not receive it so I don't know how you weren't receiving them until now.

Anyway, you should be able to set up filters in your email client, like this one I use:

It makes these emails skip inbox and be archived under "imdb-update" label so I never see them unless I want to, they don't appear in inbox but I can still search for them if I need it later.
You can instead set the filter as "Delete it", so they would be automatically deleted as soon as they arrived.

I never received these receipts until just a few hours ago!

I guess another solution would be to just stop contributing to IMDb.

Mr. Kent: I am surprised you weren't receiving these emails previously.

According to these two prior threads, it is not possible to opt out of these emails.

Turning off emails

How can I stop IMDb from emailing me for every contribution I make?

As @ACT_1 suggests, you could try creating a new email address specifically for receiving these emails. Or as suggested in those other threads, you could set up rules or filters in your email account that will send the emails to a folder or straight to the trash.

I think we've been duped.  Until tonight, I NEVER received these contribution receipts during my many, many years of contributing., So, there must have been SOME way not to receive them.  Some supercilious staffer must have added my e-mail address to the list!  What a pain...

Hi @bradley_kent & All -

While we have email notification settings for IMDb Informational Emails and Subscription/Newsletter Emails, we currently do not have an Opt-out' setting for 'Contributions", as these are automatically sent with every contribution made.

I have modified this thread to an "Idea" so other community members can vote on this notification suggestion and so IMDb staff can gage interest.  In the meantime, as suggested above, if you do not wish to see contribution notifications you can try setting up a folder within your mailbox to help direct these notifications into the folder and out of your general inbox.

@bradley_kent - I have also filed a ticket to investigate further as to why you have not received these notifications previously.

Cheers!

Hi @bradley_kent -

I'm just following up here regarding the status of your notifications.  Do you recall anything specifically that changed on your end when you started receiving these notifications?

No. I now get FOUR listings acknowledging my contributions: on my cell phone, on my computer, update history and IMDb contributions: your contribution history.  It is really annoying, and takes much time to delete.
