Adding/Correcting Release Dates at series level

The purpose of having Release Dates at the series level is if you know when the series began, but either no episodes are listed or you don't know which episode was broadcast first in a particular country. Most series titles have release dates for this purpose.

Yet the editor won't let you add a date nor correct an existing date (like to add an attribute or correct the day). The option to Add doesn't exist in any pull-down menu, and while the option to Correct does exist, it won't let you submit the changes.

The only option that works is Delete.

So how are we supposed to make corrections to wrong dates or add the proper attribute, or add a new date for a country?

Keep in mind that many online database/catalog sources have only the countries' premiere dates for a series and don't get into episode details. Especially with anthology series, episodes are often run in a different order in different countries. Even DVDs and Streaming list different orders. And a series on IMDb may often only list the episodes in production order.

We can't just guess which episode was broadcast first for a country. But we have a definite beginning date, so it needs to be listed at the series level.

Hi Mvybuf -

Currently, for an episodic series, Release Dates  should be added to the individual episode as opposed to the parent title page.  Once listed, the series release date details will automatically reflect the release date of the first episode - this means that if there is a release date error on the parent title page you can correct the release date by updating the release date of the first episode.

I hope this helps clarify!

@Michelle No it doesn't "clarify" anything. You didn't read or understand my post. Please try again.

Hi @Mvybuf -

To help clarify further, adding a Release Date at the parent TV-series level is no longer supported.  You can correct a Release Date on the parent-TV series level, however, you will need to select the applicable episodes to make a correction.

Since all release dates are stored per episode, if there is an error on the parent TV-series level, you will need to submit the applicable release date corrections to the first episode of that series.

So for example, if "Game of Thrones" which has several release dates displayed on the parent TV-Series level, is listed with an incorrect release date, you will need to submit the correction (for whatever country release date is incorrect) from the first episode listing of the series, "Winter is Coming".  Any Release Date additions/corrections made to this episode will automatically reflect on the parent series title page.

I hope this helps!

@Michelle

You say that adding a date on the series title is no longer supported, but there are dates there already. Look in the editor, not on the displayed page. So how do we correct the ones that are there?

You say that all dates are stored per episode, but that is not true. Most series titles have their own dates stored.

You say that all dates entered on the first episode will automatically reflect on the series page, but that only addresses the display, not the dates stored on the series page (which you can see from within the editor), which can be different from the ones that are displayed from episode 1, and will display as an additional date.

Still, my concern isn't being addressed. Read my last two paragraphs in my original post again. I'll re-explain:

If we know the date a series began for a particular country, but we don't know which episode was broadcast first, we can't add the date to an episode; it has to be added to the series page.

And if we know the date a series began, and we do know which episode was broadcast first, but that's not the first episode listed on IMDb because different countries played them in different orders (typical of anthology series or foreign series broadcast in the USA or direct-to-syndication series or Fox series), then we can't add the date to the correct episode because it would not be reflected on the series page.

This last situation is problematic because often we might know which episode was broadcast first but not know the subsequent episodes' order, so we can't add any dates to those individual episodes. The logical approach would be to add the date on the series itself.

All of the situations I'm pointing out can apply to dates that are already stored on the series page, so we would need to edit them to make any necessary corrections (including maybe just changing or adding an attribute), something the editor form won't let us do. Deleting is not an option, for then there's no place to put the correct information. Adding is necessary also, for the same reason in these situations I've been describing.

Unfortunately, what you are asking for is just not supported, so there isn't really any existing solution for Michelle to suggest.

Series-level dates can be added when a series title is added, but if they need to be corrected they must be added to an episode. This is similar to credits.

I agree that the system doesn't take into account that a series may be broadcast in a different order in another country.
