Adding a different name for different jobs

Hi, community.

I write/direct/produce under my initials but IMDBpro doesn't seem to want me to do that.

Is there a way to create a different persona? I'm there as Anna Nicholas but AR Nicholas is what I use for writing/directing/producing (arnicholas.com)

Any advice, suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

AR Nicholas

Hi anna_nicholas -

As I understand the issue, you are currently listed on the site under the name "Anna Nicholas", but you want to be listed under the name "AR Nicholas", is that correct?  If so, confirm here and our staff can make the manual name change on your behalf.

Otherwise, know that we only allow one page listing per individual on the site, so you would not be able to list two separate pages under "AR Nicholas" and "Anna Nicholas".

@Michelle Thanks Michelle.

Ideally the projects I've written, directed and produced are credited "as AR Nicholas" to distinguish from the acting credits.

I don't want to lose any credits by changing my name. I just want to make it clear that some projects were done under AR Nicholas and not Anna. If we change it to AR, then it's as if Anna was never a person and I'm listed as Anna on more than a few shows/films/etc.

However, I want producers to be able to find me as AR Nicholas. If they land on the Anna Nicholas page, that's fine, so long as they can tell it's also AR. Do you have any advice?

Maybe it's best to just add a nickname? The thing is, it's not really a nickname.

Hi @anna_nicholas -

To clarify, when you submit a Name Correction you can still retain your previous name as a credit ed name attribute alongside the credits where you were credited under "Anna Nicholas", ie. "(as Anna Nicholas)".  Your page will then be searchable under both names, and "Anna Nicholas" will be displayed on the page as an Alternate Name.

To ensure that your previous name is retained you will need to leave the "Preserve previous name on existing credits. i.e. '(as...)'" check-marked within the submission form when submitting a name correction.

I hope this helps!

Hi. Thanks again. When I clicked on "Name Correction" in your message above, I was taken to a help page. I didn't see any form to actually correct the name with respect to some credits.

Sorry to be obtuse. Do I go to my profile?

Hi anna_nicholas -

The page I previously referenced was to our Help Guide with instructions on how to submit a name correction.  To access our contribution form where you can submit the Name Correction you will need to start on your IMDb page, scroll to the bottom and click on the "Edit Page" button (on IMDbPro, Click on the "Edit your page" button, and select “Biographical information, links, name updates”).

Next to the "Name Correction" option click the drop down and select "Add Correction". Scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Continue".  Input the new name in the field and select to preserve previous name on existing credits.  Include the reason for the correction in the Explanation field, click "Check these updates" and correct any errors you're presented with, then press "Submit these updates".

Once submitted your name change request will be forwarded to our editors for review.

Let us know if you encounter any issues!

Hello, again. I think I have made the revision but don't know for sure. For some reason, one recent project  credited an actor as director. I think I fixed that too. I use AR Nicholas as writer/director. Note: no periods after A or R. The system didn't like that. I hoped there'd be a way to go in and adjust my "function" on each project. Is that possible? Sorry to be a pill but I want it to be and appear correct.

Thanks, Anna/AR

Hello Again.

Now the top of my page says A.R. Nicholas, when it should say Anna Nicholas, then under many of the credits, it lists "As Anna Nicholas" when it should be "As AR Nicholas". Is there no way to get this right until I'm famous? haha. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi anna_nicholas -

I can help sort this out.  Can you first clarify what exactly you want your primary name text to be (for how your name is listed at the top of the page)?  AR Nicholas or Anna Nicholas?

Once we establish the preferred primary name we can then handle the credit issues.

Thanks!

@Michelle Hello. It's been awhile and per usual, with no assistant, I'm behind. The gist of my listing is: On IMDB, I should be AR Nicholas at the top of the page.

All ACTING credits should read: as Anna Nicholas

All DIRECTING, WRITING and PRODUCING credits should read: by AR Nicholas

I note that currently things that say Anna say AR and vis versa.

I hope this is clear.

Any movie I wrote, produced and/ or directed but also had a part in, seems to be separated out and not a worry so long as acting is Anna and everything else is AR.

Thank you for seeing to this.

AR Nicholas

Bumping for other staff as Michelle isn't around.

I think the name correction form will allow you to change the name to "Nicholas, AR" without the periods if you want to have another go.

Hi, thanks Peter. It's not just the periods. We corrected what was AR and what was Anna back when Michelle and I were corresponding and it's gone janky again. How can I keep it fixed where it should be?

If I tackle the form again, can I make the blanket statement I did above or will there be a form for ever single credit? Is there an algorithm that's not allowing me to change the name in some spots?

Thank you!

@anna_nicholas

The Name Correction form is for the name at the top of the page. As Michelle said, it's good to get that settled first. Then some of the credits may still need to be edited to reflect how you were credited on screen.
