Add TV series cast from existing list is impossible for cast aded in "Adding a new title " form.

Example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9540064/ 3 people are listed as cast,

but if I go on one of the episodes I cant use the "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes. " to add the host to the other episodes.

Can anyone at IMDb put this on a list for things need fixing or is it already on a todo list?

kristin,

Did _you_ submit this as an Idea?

If not, it could have been changed by a staff member.

If you _did_, I've seldom seen a staff member reply to an Idea.

If you want an answer to your question, I suggest you Edit your original post above, changing it to a Problem or a Question.

I'd also rephrase the last sentence to ask for a fix instead of asking for it to be put on a list of fixes.

BTW, I'm not certain, but I suspect that these cast members being attached at the series level is the problem. Why not change the one you want to assign to an episode (by correcting the current series-level entry)? Then maybe it'll be available to add to other episodes.

Yes I listed it as an idea since I want a change in the system, and not to fix this one show.

I tried asking a question about this 2 years ago, so I now want this on the "to do list" instead.

I can´t assign the cast to one episode, I will have to manually add the Host person to one episode, and then yes I can then copy to the rest of the episodes, but that takes time I want a permanent solution and not a workaround ;-)

I have tested myself why this happens, when you add a new TV series, it is mandatory to add at least 3 Cast members, thees members are then not added to one episode but to the show.

But later when you add episodes and use the

"Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes. "

the cast will not show up on the list to choose from even if you choose "series level",

this is where the problem/faulty design is ;-)

Thanks anyway for taking the time to write to me :-)

I like your explanation.

But after the series has been added, those 3 cast members can be Corrected to belong to an episode, no? And that would put them on the Copy-From list? So what's your request: that series-level cast be included in the Copy-From list?

(You may want to Edit the subject of this thread. You used the word Added 3 times, once misspelled,, and it's not clear in the subject that you're talking about using the Copy-From feature, officially "Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes.")

The members can´t bee "corrected", you have to add them from "scrach" to one episode.

Yes my request is that series-level cast be included in the Copy-From list when I choose the "series level" button.

Sorry for my spelling I am Norwegian so English is not my native language.

I haven't completed the process, but it certainly _appears_ that the series level cast _can_ be Corrected, assigning them to an episode.

Notice that the form states "Please add this data to specific episodes, otherwise it is likely to be discarded."

HI KRISTEN, HAVE YOU TRIED TO ENTER THE NAME SEPARATELY ON EACH EPISODE, COPY/PASTE I DO NOT THINK IS ACCEPTED. NICE DAY

It is possible to enter the name separately, but my point is they should fix the problem so i don´t have to ;-) This takes a lot of unnecessary time :-)

PS: I am not talking about regular Copy/paste, but using the link/button that is called:

"Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes. "

I find sometimes when information is rejected, I need to think as a computer linear C-base logic.

??WHY ARE YOU ENTERING THRU 'NEW TITLE' WHEN YOU WANT TO ADD AN ACTOR'S NAME, THRU 'CAST CHANGE-ADDITION'

Hello again @carsongrant :-)

I am not entering thru "New title", I am adding a new episode(s), and then it is not possible to copy cast from the series main page if the cast is only on the series page and not linked to an episode.

A cast not linked to an episode happens when the TV series page is created the first time and you have to add minimum 3 cast members, (cast members are therefor not added to a episode.).

This is a "bug" in the

"Click here to copy existing credits from the series or other episodes. " function

that I want to get fixed.

Therefore I have added an "idea" page for it to be fixed.

@owenrees  and @bderoes have provided me with helpful workarounds but I still want the bug fixed since that is the most intuitive and easiest way to add cast members to episodes.

(Not all are IMDb superusers ;-)  )

PS: Please do not shout at me ;-)

There is a similar report here from a few years ago, which doesn't seem to be fixed yet although a ticket was filed. I'm afraid it just doesn't seem to be a priority.

Series option no longer available when adding cast to an episode

Great, thanks for the helpful info, I see that one is reported as a "Problem" and I have now added an "idea" so lets hope.

I am guessing it is a case of having enough staff and money so things take time :-)

If you edit the series page then select 'Correct/Delete' for Cast, then on the next page select 'correct' for all the cast members (there is a 'correct all' checkbox next to the 'Correct/Delete' dropdown), the next page will give you the option of adding the cast members to the relevant episodes. If that is accepted, the entries should disappear from the series page.

Alternatively, edit an episode and select 'episode migrate' for the cast dropdown. That will take you to a form that lets you select which credits to add to the episode. I am not sure how quickly the credits will be removed from the series page so if you want to do this for more than one episode, it is probably best to submit all the changes in parallel rather than doing one and waiting.

@owenrees Thanks again. This was really helpful :-)
