How do we email someone at IMDB to ask for a separate category to be created for SCRIPT CLEARANCES?  At present they are listed under "miscellaneous" , which is not appropriate at all!

The best way to suggest anything to staff is to post it here as an idea thread, which you've done.  This area is their more public suggestion box as it lets staff know how popular and useful a suggestion is by how many vote +1 and how many add comments.

They've had many of these requests, but from other departments that have been lumped together.  I believe staff has comment it isn't being done at this time, but you never know...adding support for the idea might let them know it needs to be higher on the priority list. I am not sure how easy the change might be, which might be what's keeping it in the long term improvements rather than a quick fix.

Thanks very much bluesmanSF!  We can but hope...!  It really is quite simple to create proper categories for the many different departments.  Let's hope someone from IMDB reads this!

If anyone else who is lumped into "miscellaneous" reads this thread, please add your voice!

One of the veteran Contributors to the site gave me this good information on the subject...seems it's still in some sort of consideration to split some types of credits off into their own departments:

Regarding the question on GS about a Script Clearances department, IMDb has always responded to these types of queries that while natural divisions on a film crew have some bearing on the issue, the primary consideration in the decision on when and where to split has been data management. Action is generally taken when a department has become too unwieldy for the staff assigned to it (size matters).

A good indicator of where splits are likely to occur next is the field browser popup for miscellaneous crew that is part of the update form, imdb.com/updates/field/miscellaneous/job. The numbers there tell the story.

An even better indicator is the existence of draft guides (unlinked for now from anywhere on the site) for four new departments that have not yet been implemented (presented below in alphabetical order). No idea if or when these departments might come online.

imdb.com/updates/guide/electrical_department
imdb.com/updates/guide/location_management
imdb.com/updates/guide/production_department
imdb.com/updates/guide/script_department

Script clearance, though it sounds more like it belongs in a legal/compliance department, would probably be included in a new script department just as music clearance is a part of the music department.

Again, I have no idea if there is currently any timetable for establishing these departments, but the retention of these draft guides (that have been around for several years) suggests that they haven't abandoned the idea of future department splits.
Thanks out to MayorDefacto!

Thank you very much. Sorry have just seen your reply.    We also suffer as for some reason TV doesn't recognise script clearances but they are happy to credit junior runners!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why isn't Script Neg Checks / Clearances recognised as a category?.

Script Neg Checking / Script Clearances are now hugely important on productions yet to be credited on IMDB this category falls under "miscellaneous".  Please IMDB, create a category for Clearances.  Also, why don't TV dramas generally credit clearances yet other very minor roles receive credits?
