Actor's Name

Why does a credit show the name of a person, then show "as" himself.  Ex:  Carl Möhner (name), Kapitan Ernst Lindemann (character), (as Carl Mohner)?

DMNC: In the film you are referring to, Sink the Bismarck! (1960), Carl Möhner was credited as Carl Mohner -- that is, without the umlaut on the "o" in his surname. Since "Mohner" is a slightly different spelling from his official IMDb surname "Möhner", it gets listed with an (as ...) attribute just as it would if he had used a completely different pseudonym on that film.

@gromit82 I've seen this same thing with other names however not noticed such a nuance; it must be there and I will look more closely.  Thanks so much!
