ABC Television Studios, 4151 Prospect Ave, in Yorba Linda???

Noticed on the page for Barney Miller TV show, the Filming Location is listed as ABC Television Center, 4151 Prospect Avenue — However, the *map link* takes you to Prospect Avenue in Yorba Linda CA, not Hollywood.

Looks like the facility is now called The Prospect Studios, 4151 Prospect Ave, 90027.

Can someone correct this?  I gave it a try but got the message that I would be changing 9,000+ records, and I didn’t have the nerve to pull the trigger.  Thanks.

Are you seeing this on the desktop site or using an app?

I'm not sure if the name of a studio should be updated when the name changes.

@Peter_pbn -

It’s not about the name, it’s about the location.  The map link is showing 4151 Prospect Ave in Yorba Linda (92886) when the studio referenced (old name or new) is located in East Hollywood, 4151 Prospect Ave (90027).

I only mention the name because I notice other listing will list the current name of a studio location and then the name it was when the show filmed.  Sort of like the MGM lot is now Sony.

And yes, I’m using the ipad/iphone app, if that makes a difference.

I see the correct location in my iPhone app. I'm not sure what would cause the difference.

Hi PerhapsJDP -

I am seeing the same results as Peter_pbn on the IMDb iPhone app.  In order for our tech team to investigate further, can you post a screen grab of the results you are seeing that are showing you a location in "Yorba Linda"?

Hi PerhapsJDP -

Sometimes this issue can be fixed by updating your OS or app version. See these apple instructions for checking for App updates.

If the above doesn't work, can you confirm what exact OS and app version you are experiencing the display issue with?

To find your OS version see these apple instructions.  To find your App version you can: Open the iOS app. Select the User tab in the bottom navigation. Select the Settings icon at the top of the page. The installed app version is found under General > About.

Once we have these additional details our tech team can investigate further.

Hi PerhapsJDP -

Following-up on this location issue, unfortunately,  the iOS app uses Apple's geolocation API, so we don't have control of how it determines the location to display and there is nothing we can do on our end to change it.

It's likely that you are seeing a different location because the city of Los Angeles has duplicate addresses that are distinguishable only by zipcode, and since our locations data doesn't include zipcodes, there may be instances like this where you see the wrong address within that city.

I hope this information helps clarify the cause of the issue.

Michelle -

You say there’s ‘nothing we can do on our end.’  I’d have to disagree.  You put the blame on the iOS, but you are giving it incomplete information.  My suggestion is that IMDb needs to add zip codes or something similar to avoid this confusion.

The county of Los Angeles has 290 different zip code areas.  That’s bound to lead to a lot of identical addresses over 4,700 square miles of streets.

ABC Television Center might not be one of the major studio locations, but this system could just as easily misplace MGM, Fox or Paramount.  Doesn’t seem like a problem to just write off as unsolvable.

Respectfully, I think this discrepancy should be considered by the department that oversees this data.

Thank you.

Hi @PerhapsJDP -

Thanks for your feedback.  Our current Locations policy doesn't allow for zipcodes to be included, however, since the absence of zipcodes does contribute to this locations issue, I have raised this issue with the Policy team for visibility and reassigned this thread as an Idea so other community members can vote on the request to include postal zipcodes on locations data and staff can track the interest.
