Abbreviations

If possible I'd like some guidance on whether indexers are supposed to change onscreen abbreviated credits to their longer versions, seemingly going against 'enter as shown' rules. In one episode of a title I see this:

Actual onscreen credit   Changed to

props master                    property master

dresser                              set dresser

1st assistant director       first assistant dresser

3rd electrics                     third electrician

qc supervisor                    quality control supervisor

post assistant                   post-production assistant

vfx producer                      video effects producer

There were a lot of non-abbreviation type of differences from the credits as well. Some are minor like 'still photographer' replacing 'stills photographer', but still, it's not the actual credit. Here's another I frequently see: 'asst.' changed to 'assistant'. It makes it difficult for an indexer to know which ones should not be corrected and which ones are given tacit approval to be changed. I have to say, if it were up to me, I'd be inclined to go with credits as is, no exceptions. It would make entering credits a lot easier. Thanks for reading.

Hi @nickbianco -

Credits should be listed as they show on-screen. If you find any incorrect one feel free to send a correction through our online form.

Cheers!

Thanks, Bethanny. I can only assume some editors think they are making 'improvements' on the actual credits by changing them to a more standardized look. I appreciate your reply.
