Solved

A valid contribution was declined for reasons that make absolutely no sense

There have been many contributions concerning MASH when it comes to subjects like Hawkeye and his noncompliance with the military regulations and the official punishment he would officially face. Not based on opinion but based on military law.

And I'm simply saying that if Hawkeye where to be in front of General MacArthur in his bathrobe MacArther would take extreme disciplinary action on him and the commanding officer. This is not an opinion. Does somebody actually think that MacArthur would just smile and move onto the next person?

So please tell me what the problem is with this because it's certainly not an opinion and it's not that long. I've seen other contributions that almost form a book in length.

I ask this be reevaluated with a specific explanation why it was declined.

Thank you

TRIVIA ADDITION

During the rehearsal where Radar is playing the role of General MacArthur, Hawkeye is in formation wearing his red bathrobe and Trapper is wearing his fatigues with the shirt totally unbuttoned and overall disheveled. Although this is a rehearsal, they had planned on wearing the same clothes when the real MacArthur shows up to inspect the unit. As Hawkeye said earlier, they plan on proving their own point that they are "gamey draftee doctors". Had MacArthur actually stopped his motorcade to inspect the unit and saw the pair of them like this, not only would their attempt to display this symbol of protest not have the desired outcome they wanted, but in fact, it would have resulted in immediate and severely harsh disciplinary action on both of them as well as Lt Col Blake as not only would this stunt be a gross sign of disrespect to the most powerful general in the United States military, but at the very least it would be a charge of conduct on becoming an officer as well as conduct contrary to good order and discipline.

I think most people reading that would think, "It's comedy!" It is not supposed to take every rule from real life seriously.

Wrong. There are countless trivia contributions about M*A*S*H About Hawkeye and is not compliant with military rules. Many I have made myself and many I have read from other people. Comedy has nothing to do with it. There's something else that play here with the people that approve or deny these contributions.

you just can't say something's too trivial simply because it's a comedy. That would cut out half of the contributions of trivia like the fact that in Hogan's heroes that in reality that would be no Officer in the POW camp with the fact that Major Hochstetter where is the rank of a colonel. You'll find that in trivia. Are those things too trivial to bring up?

Personally, this strikes me as a little too... trivial to be included as an interesting factoid. It's a given that not all actions by fictional characters would have the same repercussions in real life as they do onscreen. That looking disheveled in front of your military superior is among those is pretty obvious. Do you think a trivia item that said, "Homer Simpson is a grossly incompetent safety inspector. In real life, he would be fired from his job at the nuclear power plant" would be that interesting or enlightening, for example?

no. There have been countless trivia contributions about M*A*S*H and Hawkeye not complying with military rules and many have cited his actions and what type of court marshal charges or discipline he would face. They've all been approved. Look up any episode on IMDb where he's done something like this and you'll see that they've all been accepted. Like on the Rainbow bridge episode where he fails to salute the Chinese officer correctly or the sniper where he tells Henry they need to surrender or the episode of guerrilla in my dreams we're him and Hawkeye try to smuggle out an enemy guerrilla To help her escape.

Well, I can see how a depiction of an incorrect salute could be worthy of a trivia item since non-military people wouldn't necessarily know what the correct procedure is. "Character X doesn't look presentable in front of their superior", on the other hand, feels excessively trivial since the opposite is what's expected in most professions and social situations. This isn't specifically a military rule.

Hi Cousinvin62-

Thank you for posting the reference! After further review, we can confirm it was declined because it is speculative rather than factual. The entry describes hypothetical disciplinary consequences that are neither depicted nor confirmed in the episode.

This wouldn't qualify as a Goof either, given that we do allow for artistic license in fictional shows.

IMDb Trivia guidelines require verifiable facts or documented information, rather than interpretations of what might have occurred.

Cheers!

I'm not looking for an argument, Maya, and yes, some might say it's trivial but that's the point of classifying this as trivia, but to clarify the position of the US military, I am a veteran of the military for over 11 years and I can tell you as a 100% concrete fact with no speculation involved that if I was in formation wearing a bathrobe when a five star general in the head of the Army, especially if I was an officer, I would, at the very least, be brought up on charges of Conduct Unbecoming an Officer and Conduct Contrary to Good Order and Discipline. That's not a speculation, that would be a concrete fact. Do the gatekeepers of IMDb that denied this actually think Hawkeyes actions are subjective and that General MacArthur would have just smiled and walked away?

To think that nothing would happen would be sheer fantasy and Nau'f Gert and Daisy

Anyway...a storm in a tea cup.
