A provision for Japanese programs

In Japan, the tradition is to market different seasons of a show as their own unique shows. For instance:
- In the 70-80s there was Lupin III shows Part 1 (1971-72), Part 2 (1977-80) Part 3 (1984-85) and Part 4 (2015-16). However, since the shows were produced by different studios and were more than 1 year apart, they are okay to be separate.

- The comedy series Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei is marked as three shows  (Season 1 - 2007, Season 2 - 2008, Season 3 -2009), when it maybe should be three seasons.

- The series Hero Yoshihiko is divided into three shows: Season 1 - Demon King's Castle (2011), Season 2 - Evil Spirit Key (2012) and Season 3 - Seven Chosen Ones (2016).

All the above info is according to Wikipedia, and as far as I know is accurate.

This can cause some issues on IMDb, where shows can end up getting duplicated entries. There may need to be a provision in place for Japanese shows, where they may have to be merged into one entry, or at least get an investigation.

Hello:

I'm just a contributor, but I would like to ask if you got your facts on the Japanese Wikipedia or the English one. This is because the English Wikipedia sometimes list the episodes as they were released in the English market and that is not always accurate with the japanese releases.

Please excuse my English, it is not my native language.

I used both Wikis. And also on many anime sites (Anime News Network, My Anime List) a lot of animes are listed as their seasons rather than as a single title.

Indeed there are certain anime shows that are divided by seasons (I can think about Dragon Ball Kai right now) but others seems to fall under new titles according to IMDb Guidelines. I guess we as contributors must pay attention to those facts, it would be nice to have Japanese speakers in the Staff but it doesn't seem likely, sadly.

I prefer to use the broadcaster/producer official site to check if the series are in fact different or the same but with a new season.

I support your idea if IMDb could be able to keep different seasons with differents titles, like the case of "Sayonara Zetsubô Sensei" and its 3 "seasons".

Cheers!
