A keyword dilemma: Once and for All...
I know that IMDb stands for the Internet Movie Database (although I sometimes refer to it as the International Movie Database), but what, finally, is the preferred prefix and suffix in keywords:
"film," "movie" or "motion picture"?
Or, does it vary from situation to situation?
film-actor, movie-actor, motion-picture-actor, filmmaker, filmmaking, moviemaker, moviemaking, film-director, movie-director, motion-picture-director, film-star, movie-star, motion-picture-star, film-production, movie-production, motion-picture-production, making-a-film, making-a-movie, making-films, making-movies, etc.
The 120-year-old Readers Guide to Periodical Literature even used "moving-pictures" as an index heading.
And then there's "cinema," which can mean the art/craft, and/or, in much of the world (but not the USA), the theatre (theater?), itself.
What would be the best words to use in order to avoid duplication?
Staff, what do you think? Perhaps Col could "chime in" on this.

I know you were hoping to hear from staff on this, but for what it's worth, my two cents are that whether to use "film" or "movie" in keywords will indeed depend on the situation.
I have a long list of filmmaking-related duplicate keywords that I intend to eventually post on this forum for proposed mergers. For certain keywords, I believe "film" should be preferred over "movie" (e.g., "filmmaking" over "movie-making," and "film-director" over "movie-director"). But for others, "movie" will be preferred (e.g., "movie-studio" over "film-studio," and "movie-star" over "film-star").
Much of it will be based on everyday usage. For example, it is much more common to say "b-movie" than "b-film," and more common to say "filmmaker" than "movie-maker." I believe there just isn't any one-size-fits-all answer here.

Hi bradley_kent-
Sorry for the late response, working through our backlog here. I am not sure if keyword_expert created a merger list for these keywords yet, but I do think we should merge and keep the most frequently used by our users since I wouldn't consider any of them to be wrong.
Cheers!
