A Connections submission refused ... how is it possible to verify this?

Here it is: 230522-191956-559000 . The text:

   Peeping Tom (1960)                                                                 Declined (1)

MOVIE CONNECTION ADDITION

Tweet and Sour (1956)  references  Detective Baxter paraphrases Tweety's famous line, " I tawt I taw a putty-tat", when an unexplained sound is heard on the film set.

Admittedly, it's an unusual connection (a Sylvester & Tweetie cartoon referenced in a controversial horror thriller), but it is legitimate. My question is: how can I prove its legitimacy? As I've indicated before, the only way to verify this is to watch the movie. Isn't this why IMDb asks users to submit data, so that staff don't have to do this?

Is every Connections submission subjected to this kind of overweening legalism? Do I need to find a shooting script with the line in black & white?

If there is a simpler way of verifying this, please enlighten me.

Why do you think it's a reference to that specific short film?

@Peter_pbn  Because there were only a couple of Sylvester & Tweetie cartoons made before 1960, when PEEPING TOM was released. I picked the earliest. Would somebody suggest that Tweetie doesn't use his famous catch-phrase in this particular title? They would have to make such a case by watching the whole movie, just the same way they would have to watch PEEPING TOM to verify my original suggestion. Really, they can't have it both ways.

Perhaps it's like baseball. When an umpire's decision is challenged, there has to be conclusive video evidence to overturn it; otherwise the original decision stands, no matter how iffy it is. (The IMDB would be the umpires; we, the players.)

I would say the connection was correctly declined because there is no specific reference to the cartoon. The fact that you had to pick a title is a giveaway.

You are also wrong about there only being a few films with Sylvester and Tweety before 1960; there were dozens. I Taut I Taw a Puddy-Tat was also a popular song.

Guidelines:

Generic references that do not link specific titles are not considered movie links. i.e. just because a character mentions Bond/Harry Potter/Frodo/etc. does not mean a reference to a specific Bond/Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings title or even all of them. Unless of course it is clear that a specific title is meant (i.e. poster/T-Shirt/specific cast reference). Otherwise, please consider submitting a plot keyword instead.

@Peter_pbn  OK, that makes sense: generic references have always been slippery. And I was trying to make it non-generic, without adequate info. Still, is there a keyword 'reference-to-sylvester-and-tweety'? I'd feel embarrassed if I had to create one (and of course I would need more examples).

Hi @hutch48 -

We currently have a Keyword for: "reference-to-tweety-and-sylvester", as well to the individual characters: 'reference-to-sylvester-the-cat' and 'reference-to-tweety-bird'.

I hope this helps!
