#230403-230424-665304
I requested deletion of a review - #230403-230424-665304 - on the grounds that its title is deliberately offensive. It uses the words ‘spastic’ and ‘epileptic’ despite neither being the content of the film.
There is a warning about flashing images, so there is possible justification for mentioning epilepsy, but even this is more usually referred to by more accurate reference to light sensitivity, since not all those with epilepsy are triggered by lights, and people without epilepsy can be affected by stroboscopic effects.
’Spastic’, however, is totally 7njustified and breaches IMDb submission guidelines -
“Also, please do not include the following:
- Profanity, obscenities, or spiteful remarks in either the body or header of your review.
- Expressions of hatred or intolerance for people on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender or gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability, including by promoting organizations with such views.”
The word ‘spastic’ has long been considered unacceptable in everyday speech, and was never linked to epilepsy anyway. In the context of a film review, it appears to breach rules on ‘spiteful remarks’ and ‘expressions of … intolerance for people on the basis of … disability’.
As I am sure your moderators are acquainted with these guidelines, I am disappointed that I have had to appeal against an earlier decision.
