PS: "Game of Thrones" Rumored Prequel Face-Off
On May 4th, 2017, HBO announced that it had ordered pilot scripts for five separate prequel projects to succeed "Game of Thrones". HBO has said that, due to the massive logistics involved, it will probably only pick one of these pitches to go into full production. On June 8th, 2018 HBO announced it had green lit Jane Goldman's script to go into pre-production, actors Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse were cast and the pilot movie will likely be shown as soon as 2020 and if all goes well a likely pick-up for a full season TV series.
Tentatively titled, The Long Night it cryptically promises a tale set "... thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend... it’s not the story we think we know.”
"A Song of Ice and Fire" novelist, George R.R. Martin speculatively predicts “... we could possibly see two or even three make it to the pilot stage, with one series emerging on air in 2019 or 2020.” Although, that’s his best guess, he stresses that no one knows for sure.

Game of Thrones (2011) is great, but the series complexity pushes the limits of what my mind and body can handle. I imagine The Long Night will be similarly consuming and challenging. I love "Games of Thrones", but don't think I can manage more than one spin-off at a time and need the year-long hiatus between seasons to recover.
