Could you please the add the following hyperlink to the right of your discussion hyperlink on your poll list? ie.After voting, you may discuss the poll here or Take other Oscars 2018 polls. The second hyperlink of the dual hyperlinks should use the following format (you can cut and paste it to save time). i.e. or [link=http://www.imdb.com/list/ls021216429/]Take other Oscars 2018 polls[/link]. We are trying to generate some synergy among all the 2018 Oscar polls. Hopefully, making it easier for poll takers to navigate between the 2018 Oscar polls and vote the full slate. As polls get featured on the IMDb Home Page, other polls not featured will benefit by poll takers clicking on the Take other Oscars 2018 polls. and voting other Oscar award polls at the same time. Hopefully, this will result in hundreds of extra votes for your individual poll and thousands of votes over the award season for all the Oscar polls.

Nolan’s movie came out last summer, Del Toro’s in December. I sure would hope Nolan developed a lead over a film that hadn’t even been shown yet Nolan is far under-recognized. Far. I’d say similar applies to Del Toro. His Pan’s Labyrinth was the best film of 2006. It just wasn’t in English. Both these dudes deserve recognition. We’ll see how the Academy parses that up. Cheers, bitcohen

I'd love to see any of these directors win. But I'm pulling for Del Toro.

When answering the poll, I asked myself, "Which film absolutely requires the director to be anywhere close to good?" In the case of Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig, I considered that the films they made were masterworks. I adore Lady Bird and I believe that Get Out is one of the best genre films ever conceived. Those films work, however, on a level that the two of them are both responsible for, which is the screenplay. (I haven't seen Phantom Thread so I didn't consider P.T. Anderson.) Between Del Toro and Nolan, I thought a lot about how much the film relies on the director's own hand, how much their unique style of storytelling propelled the film to its level of greatness. Del Toro is the answer I'd go with if I was considering every little factor that contributed to the film, and I think he more than deserves the acclaim. Dunkirk, however, does not work without Nolan. Without him, the film is just another event war film with no real substance. This and many more reasons that would take too long to explain is why I voted for Nolan.

I wonder why Luca Guadagnino wasn't nominated...

Who would you have replaced in lieu of Luca? To me? All of the nominated directors deserved their nominations over him.
