1. soundtrack on name page doesn't render name id's; 2. credit doesn't appear on each person's filmography

On the page for Xavier Cugat, https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0191265/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t16 the second credit says The Fairy (performer: "Nightingale" written by nm0191265, nm1264760 & nm0936347) But when I look at the Soundtracks for The Fairy, I see the credit properly rendered: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1922645/soundtrack?ref_=tt_ql_trv_7 Also, The Fairy does not appear on the filmographies for either George Rosner or Fred Wise. It should, shouldn't it? This is using Chrome on Chromebook and Windows 10, and MS Edge with no extensions/scripts.

Indeed, a mystery. Everything seems to be right in the formatting, I've checked through the editing mode.

Hi, bderoes and Nikolay: Everything seems to be right in the formatting, I've checked through the editing mode. It is right now indeed, but it wasn't 9 hours ago, when I submitted the corrections (180218-001529-206000). This is how the entries looked like: The problem comes (IMHO) because a line feed after the song title is missing, and every [link] before the first line feed is ignored when it should propagate to the respective name pages. Please note that in the example above, the great Xavier Cugat is credited in his page as perfomer of Nightingale (info after the first LF is well processed), but not as 'writer'. Similarly, Mitchell Paris's page didn't even listed La fée, despite being the writer of It's Wonderful in two entries (#2, #7), because in both cases his [link=nm0661695] appears before the first line feed. Since FTP files are no longer updated (latest version of soundtracks.list: 27 Dec 2017), the following numbers are just approximate. There are 1,805 soundtracks in which at least one [link] (old qv links in the .list) is present after the song title but before the first line feed. This tracks are spread along 692 titles, and affect to 2,440 [links] which currently aren't being honoured in their corresponding name pages. As of 27 Dec 2017, these are the titles with most bad-formatted entries: Paul Williams Still Alive (2011): 29 songs The Libertines: There Are No Innocent Bystanders (2011): 28 songs Seymour: An Introduction (2014): 27 songs Beware of Mr. Baker (2012): 25 songs Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey (2012): 23 songs Hot Sugar's Cold World (2015): 22 songsTrois souvenirs de ma jeunesse (2015): 22 songs And these are the titles with most "wasted" (ignored) links: The Libertines: There Are No Innocent Bystanders (2011): 52 links Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey (2012): 51 links Paul Williams Still Alive (2011): 45 links Das letzte Schweigen (2010): 40 links Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001): 36 links La lengua de las mariposas (1999): 36 links Beware of Mr. Baker (2012): 32 links Finally, these are the songs with most ignored links: Why Can't We Be Friends in "Chelsea Does" (2016) {Chelsea Does Racism (#1.3)}: 8 links All Me in The Age of Spin: Dave Chappelle Live at the Hollywood Palladium (2017) (TV): 8 links Concerto Brandebourgeois No. 5 en Ré majeur BWV 1050 in "Les grands maîtres de la musique" (1963) {Jean-Sébastien Bach}: 6 links Can I Kick It? in The Age of Spin: Dave Chappelle Live at the Hollywood Palladium (2017) (TV): 5 links Unwritten in The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 (2011): 5 links All in all, I consider this issue a formatting mistake on the contributor's part rather than a bug in the system. Perhaps a note in the Soundtracks guide could be added to clarify this. Cheers!

That explains it: it indeed looked like "written by" was in the same line as the song title.

Here's another example .... Fabien Waltmann (nm5699842 ) has the following on his entry.... When you go to the documentary page, this is the display. ..... So, although the display on Wlatmann's page just shows title IDs, when you look at the linked Soundtrack items, the text shows as though the links are perfectly formed. Or is this the way that you need to format titles in Soundtrack items now?

Hello, Graham. That is, again, a case of incorrect soundtrack formatting. Not only are square brackets unnecessary there they are also in the same line as the title, while they should not be as hyperlinks are not seen correctly in flmographies. Will correct that and hopefully in 48 hours or less it will look just fine.

@ ljdoncel, Champion Thank you for fixing these, and for the explanation. But I'm not sure I understand completely. Using an example from the Soundtracks guide, if someone submits "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" Written by [link=nm0636413] and [link=nm0903117]instead of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" Written by [link=nm0636413] and [link=nm0903117]it makes this enormous difference (missing database entries or correct ones)? Since the song title is required to be in quotes, the software that checks the submission should make sure there's a line break immediately following the second quote. At least issue a warning, something like: 'Song title should be on its own line.' If I had submitted such an entry, because it translates the name links on the Soundtracks page, I'd assume everything is fine. And I would not have ANY idea how to fix it if I'd found the credits missing on the people's pages, so an enhancement to the Submission Guide is definitely in order! And for the IMDb staff who reads this, I don't understand this sentence in the Submission Guide, under the heading "Linking": Please avoid splitting name linked entries over lines as this will break the software that creates the hyperlinks. An example should be provided of what a "split name linked entry" looks like. Is it Written by [link=nm0636413] and [link=nm0903117]Or is it Written by [link= nm0636413] and [link=nm0903117]

Hi bderoes - To clarify, the correct formatting should be in a single line entry: Written by [link=nm0636413] and [link=nm0903117] Both examples you posted above are formatted incorrectly, but in specific regard to "splitting name linked entries", this would refer to the second example you posted: Written by [link= nm0636413] and [link=nm0903117] Given the confusion mentioned in this thread, I have also filed a ticket for our editorial staff to take a look at the existing guide and to see if further examples and clarification can be made. Cheers!

@ Michelle, Official Rep OK, good that you'll provide example(s) for Please avoid splitting name linked entries over lines as this will break the software that creates the hyperlinks. But what about "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" Written by [link=nm0636413] and [link=nm0903117]I'm not sure if you also meant the ticket will address that. Since having both lines combined without a line break generates a Title soundtrack that appears correct, but ruins the Name soundtrack credits, this is a pretty dangerous error. I had hoped IMDb would also add a warning/correction within the submission Software to prevent such data loss. As I said above: Since the song title is required to be in quotes, the software that checks the submission should make sure there's a line break immediately following the second quote. At least issue a warning, something like: 'Song title should be on its own line.'

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Unusual display. When looking at the credits for Buddy Stewart (nm3460091), I came across an unusual display. The credit in the film, "Freaky Deaky" shows a reference code to a songwriter for "Ninety Nine Pounds of Dynamite" - see first image below. I thought this may be because the link was incorrectly entered. Upon looking at the Soundtrack page, the display is perfect - see second image below. There does not appear to be an error in the underlying text - see third image below. Is there a reason for this unusual display?

Hello, Graham. Upon closer inspection it seems that all 12 entries had some bad formatting in them, which caused that glitch in at least 6 of them (main perpetrator being writing the credits in the same line as the title). I've tried my best at correcting all the mistakes and it will hopefully be evident in 48 hours or less (if nothing gets in the way), although some of the cases might took additional adjustment afterwards.
