301 Moved Permantly for page???

Why in the world does it ALWAYS show "301 Moved Permanently" for the legit URL (like:

imdb.me/ariannafox) It is SOOO unprofessional when sharing with an Agency or Casting Agency it it shows this crazy error.

How do we fix this ASAP if anyone knows how. Thanks.

That's just a shortcut to your actual name page url which is imdb.com/name/nm10904360

Think about URL shorteners, that's just basically IMDB's URL shortener.

Question is where do you actually see that error instead of an automatic redirection to your name page?

Every browser should be able to just redirect it.

Hi forthehorde.

I see that error on every single social media post. When we contact and connect with potential agencies and casting agents, it shows and whether it be the main https://www.imdb.com/name/nm10904360/ or the imdb.me/ariannafox - is there something in the IMDb pro account to fix this? Thanks!

Oh I see, you're talking about "link preview" features when sharing it. Well, it looks to me not being able to handle a redirect properly is a problem of that platform or of their caching system.

When I tried to share your link via Facebook I saw the errored link preview yes, but when I shared it via Twitter, everything was OK for example. Link preview was properly generated. Same goes for a Google service as well. Link preview was generated there properly too.

So best thing would be to remove the preview when sharing your link on that platform I guess. You can remove "only" the preview and still keep the link.

Wow, you're right. How weird. Facebook only has this issue. Figures lol. Thanks for the awesome tip. I'll just remove preview.

But, on another note, I've seen a ton of actors drop their imdb links and it shows, so I'm very confused how theirs show.

Thanks!

You're welcome. Yeah, probably some caching issue is involved on their systems, because when I tried to share your nm10904360 URL that also shows 301 error but that URL has no redirect actually and it's not normal for it to show that error for that actual non-redirected name page URL.

I have a feeling if you made facebook generate a preview first from your nm10904360 url instead of imdb.me one it would cache that and you wouldn't have this issue. Just a guess of course. I'm surprised to see a huge company like Facebook having this kinda weird problems.

Maybe if you contact them and explain the issue they can do something about it.

I've barely used Facebook since 2017.

I just go there rarely to find information which can't be found in places like Google and Bing, usually photos and videos.

However I've noticed most links for other websites, and even their own pages and groups, which worked before they updated their website last year, don't work anymore.

Facebook must have updated their website at least 7 or 8 times between 2009 and 2017, and every time they did, they made things worse, just like most large websites nowadays, especially Google who have removed the only useful filters from their image search, made filtering news articles by date almost impossible to find as not all news articles appear on the main page, and they've got rid of Map Maker shortly after I joined in late 2016/early 2017.

Facebook was almost perfect in 2014 (the only thing which was wrong with it, was the ability to remove jobs or education titles you might have added as a joke), so I can't understand why they keep messing with things, like making the video player worse.

Today for example I tried an old link for a films Facebook page, and got the This page isn't available. The link may be broken, or the page may have been removed. Check to see if the link you're trying to open is correct.

It's possible the page is still there, but as it has a generic name, I couldn't bothered looking.

I have clicked on old Facebook links for other pages in the last year however, which definitely hadn't been removed, yet the links didn't work.

Same here, regarding information sources in the photographic forms.

Hi @dmf

I've just checked and do see that your Facebook link preview should be working as intended now. Please note that IMDb pages are indexed automatically as we don't submit individual pages to platforms such as Facebook/Twitter/etc. and because of this, we don't have control over how they appear.
