Wrong title language displayed

I travel a lot and have the settings set to show English titles. However, I still get some titles shown in a strange language while the original English title is listed below. Why is this? What should I do to avoid this problem?

It's quite hard to use IMDB when wrong titles appear when searching for a title.

Some inconsistencies are known to occur because not all English titles are necessarily connected to the country you select in your settings. You could try selecting Original in the settings, then at least you will always see the English title of English-language films.

Simple advice to IMDB programmers.
The problem is that for UK or US films, people specify something like
"(original title)  The Great Gatsby"
But don't specify UK or USA
That's why I'll have the french title displayed even though I put "USA" as my Title Display Country

So instead of having
Title display country non existent ==> Display title of user's country

Change your code to
Title display country non existent ==> Display World-Wide
if World-wide non existent either  ==> Display Original

In most cases it'll do the trick

I found this thread and I thought I'd add here. I have the same problem with titles displayed based on IP address even though I have it set to UK Title. Even for american films I get foreign titles. Most of these title have world-wide english title. Why don't the setting pick it up? It's annoying. And today it all started switching to German titles. I checked - the settings are unchanged. Why German?! I'm not even in Germany right now.

January 2018 It seems that IMBd still refuses to fix this problem. Now the titles are in German language and these are NOT ANYTHING like the original English title even in translation.  All the problems related to this discrepancy have been well argued in the above but in 4 years IMBd has not bothered to change this.  Therefore the best thing to do is to boycott IMBd and share this on Facebook, and Twitter.  Perhaps then IMBd will wake up.  ANNOYED!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Titles.

I'm from Brazil and I loathe to see IMDb with portuguese titles. So I keep the titles in english, since most of the important titles are in english anyway. But an apparently unresolvable bug, which turns up now and again, change some of the titles to portuguese. And it is absolutely annoying. Now it looks like the bug has come to stay, like any other bug on IMDb (like the impossibility to see the titles in an accurate IMDb rating order, since titles with the same rating number are now shown in popularity order). I can't possibly understand why you are uncapable to solve problems that are troubling users for years. IMDb is a big and important site. If I was in charge, my first and basic concern would be to keep things working ok for users.

It's been 5 years (!) and IMDb still refuses to fix this issue. We can safely assume they just don't care, and we should find another service that does.

First they killed the forums. Now they don't fix the app from the the leading mobile OS. Shame on them.

And now it looks like this problem comes to stay. We simply can't select United States anymore, because most foreign films will appear with the titles given by the user country of origin. And IMDb don't give a damn about fixing these bugs.

It used to be possible to display the original title plus the English title underneath. I can't recreate this setting now. If I choose United States as country/region I see only the English title, and if I choose "original" country/region I see the title only in the original language. My language setting is always English but that seems to have no effect. In fact some titles are displayed in Italian apparently because IMDB overrides my preferences based on my IP. This was supposed to be corrected in 2018 - two weeks left...
