Why sometimes I don't see movie suggestions on a movie page?

The section: "People who liked this also liked:-" is shown sometimes, but not some other times. Why is this so? Is there a pattern here?

For titles with lower traffic and/or votes, it could be that we do not have enough information to generate a large enough set of recommendations, sorry. If you have a few examples we can take a look.

I am not very sure, but to the extent I can remember, I have observed that it shows for the same movie sometimes, but then doesn't some other time. So, in that case, ur comment doesn't apply. I will post here specific titles in future, if I see that behavior in any of them, thanks.

Regarding the titles, it doesn't show at all, I have one in mind:-
Hitman(2007)

Thanks.

Hi Abhay,

Thanks for the reply with a specific title example. Have you added this title to your watchlist? I've found visiting the title page initially the 'People who liked this also liked..." box was missing as well. However, upon adding the title to my watchlist and reloading the page, the box appeared.

Best,
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

Even if what you are saying is true, that means that I am required to add a title to my watchlist to see that section. Isn't this a bug and should be fixed?

Hi Abhay,

You are correct, this looks like it was an issue. However I have just tested this and it appears to now be resolved. Can you navigate to Hitman (2007) again and check if the widget is there now? I am now seeing it, without the title being on my watchlist.

Thanks,
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

If you have not done any fix, and this happened automatically, then this probably is in line with my first comment, that it sometimes shows, and sometimes don't, for the same movie title. In that case, it remains an issue.

Thanks
Abhay

Hi Abhay,

I have reported this to our technical team to investigate further, however there was a fix issued yesterday that may have resolved what was causing this. I'll reply back as soon as I have an update.

Best,
Kurt

This still seems to be an issue. but adding or removing from the watch list makes no difference, nor does number of ratings. If you look at Kill the Irishman and Sydney White they have about the same number of votes but Kill the Irishman has no suggestions while Sydney White does.

Hi,

As mentioned above, this section is dependent on both the traffic to the page and votes. As the name of the section suggests, our system will need sufficient data not only for the specific page in question, but also a trend in the same people visiting the page for another film. In the example you provided, there is a large enough number of people visiting/rating both Sydney White and She's the Man, John Tucker Must Die, etc., where there are not enough people visiting both Kill the Irishman and another title to generate "More Like This" results.

I hope this clears things up!
