Solved

What have you done to SEARCH function?

hello
few weeks ago I reported to a place where deals with imdb's apps

[mobile apps , win apps...]

when I found that you changed your sarch function

please send this problem to admin because this is not something which coders/developers can solve it
please use imdb search and run search for these movies:

[then check what is the first item which search brings to you , which apps work this way]

 Dinner 2016
 Sing 1989
 Nanny 2022
 Tides 2017
Maze 2017
200 M.P.H 2011
Isolated 2022

Mayor 2020
Among Us 2019

Camping 2 2010

Merrick 2017
The House 2022

... [so many more , these are last day's errors]

in all these years your search was amazing

please check what you changed last month which literally crippled us

thank you

I wish you VERY nice year

P.S

we are sending 5 Mil uniq tier 1 to imdb by direct linking to imdb page

@ARIOLands  Please can you describe the problem in more detail?  For example, on “Dinner 2016” the title is listed as #2 in a general search -> https://www.imdb.com/find/?q=dinner%202016&ref_=nv_sr_sm and #1 on an exact title search -> https://www.imdb.com/find/?q=dinner%202016&s=tt&exact=true

The same with “Sing 1989” with #1 -> https://www.imdb.com/find/?q=sing%201989&ref_=nv_sr_sm and #1 -> https://www.imdb.com/find/?q=sing%201989&s=tt&exact=true

Similarly with all of your other examples above.  In which country are you located as this may affect your results? The title is usually the #1 match on the general search and always #1 with the &exact-true parameter, at least in US English.

Hope this helps.

hello

thanks for reply

yes I know we must add new criteria to get the proper result

that exact=true part

but Apps work with HIGHEST PRIORITY of search

no matter where I live , I have ip in all continents except asia/africa and result is same

in all these years imdb's search was giving us best result as first item in search which was very accurate

now we need to try exact=true to get result

please integrate this matter inside Normal search without causing problem for other matters

this is imdb we are talking about not "A Site" !

frustration among coders and developers forced me to bring it here

I am NOT just 1 person

I am representing a community which is sending cleanest tier 1 traffic [5 Mil/month] in last 10 years]

please use normal search of imdb for the items I mentioned them and see how imdb search works since last month?!!

is there any solution we add that exact true part BEFORE the search entry?

we changed apps many times but we dont understand why its not working properly

we added several arrays to codes to implement exact=true  but its not working properly

can you set exact=true as default? [without adding it to search]

or

is there anyway we can add exact=true BEFORE search entry?

Artbaby is id which my people use in imdb's main site to fix problems [poster/synopsis...] and see how many we fixed/added/edited items just in last 3 months !

@ARIOLands  The &exact=true results return all of your example titles at #1, at least in English on the web site. We cannot switch the search to only look for exact matches by default.

What results are you seeing instead? We will need much more detail from you if we are going to be able to diagnose this remotely, sorry.  Your use of IMDb does not appear to be standard, so we encourage you to check https://www.imdb.com/conditions and possibly contact our licensing department if appropriate.

Dear Col

read what you wrote for me please

Standard?

Standard is what imdb gives us in search tool

and use search tool and add those items and hundred of more titles which I can mention them in a list here but it seems I didnt find proper place to mention several top coders/developers' concerns

please use STANDARD search of imdb and see what STANDARD search gives you for those titles

sir

your last month's Change in search was not correct move

now we must use 2 steps search for hundreds of movies

first is STANDARD search

then when it gives such irrelevant result

we must add

exact=true

to get better result

this is standard, sir?

apps works with STANDARDs

this is why we got crippled since last month

please send my concern to someone who understands the code and let them judge

again:

I am grateful for your time and care

I really do and I appreciate that

@ARIOLands (Dr. Ariel) -- thank you for using IMDb, and I apologize for the search-related frustrations that you described above.

To help us identify your issue(s), do you mind sharing screenshots of your search and search results (general/exact/etc.)? Also please share any region and language settings/preferences (or location. Additionally, based on your IMDb data use descriptions above, please provide details (such as step-by-step processes and/or photos of steps) of your intended IMDb search use cases -- such as how any changes have "crippled" your intended use of IMDb search, data, etc.

We will use this information to investigate whether your experience is unintended, as well as determine what prospective IMDb updates can contribute to your objectives and experience.

We are prioritizing ongoing feature updates, and I will pass on your upcoming details to the team to investigate and consider. Thank you for using IMDb, and I again apologize for your frustration and any inconvenience.

apology for late response , I had to leave country , sorry

Dinner 2016

I put in main imdb's search and I got this:

[in Netherlands/seychelles/ukraine servers and israel's home ip]

https://www.imdb.com/find/?q=Dinner%202016&ref_=nv_sr_sm

i.imgur.com/SWwdO5p.jpeg

I can show you many cases

but in brief

please use main site's search

and search

King 2022

Im pretty sure first item will NOT be King 2022 imdb.com/title/tt14073780

instead ; will be tulsa king 2022

this is happening for many cases

thats why I asked to please set exact=true as default

and let search works like 2 months ago and before that

shorter title = rate of error significantly higher

like

Eat 2014

I certainly see what ArioLandis is reporting, doing a search in the US. The exact match is far down the list on the search preview:

And on the Find page:

@ARIOLands @bderoes -- thank you for the clear aforementioned details. I've passed your specific examples to our team, which is considering ongoing updates to our search feature. I included your recommendation regarding user preference between "exact matches" and "popular matches."

Please feel free to reach out again with any feedback at any time. Thanks again for using IMDb.
