Updates to List Pages

Today (Dec 6) we are announcing an update to the List pages on the IMDb desktop experience. This update is part of the broader site changes announced recently (https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/upcoming-changes-to-several-imdb-features-du6man1opd5q0). After in-depth discussion and examination, we have decided to simplify the features and functionality for lists. We have merged “compact view” and list editing into a single Edit experience. In that one view, you can now modify your text and add, copy, delete and move items. We have also pulled List actions (edit, export, settings) together into a 1-click menu (the 3 vertical dots on the top right of the page). You will now also find two new options in the Refine menu: ‘In Theaters’ and ‘Keywords.’  Tech constraints on the new system prohibit us from continuing to support drag-and-drop from the Edit view; we appreciate your understanding. For more information about Lists, see the IMDb Help Center.

The view count seems to be the views (only) of last year or a similar period.

My display problems for titles in Greek are not solved. This is how it looks now in case I wasn't clear with what the problem is. Probably Russians, chinese and everyone with a non-Latin alphabet have the same problem.

IMDb staff: How is the current view count determined? Are we all counted from the same date now?

If so, I approve!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Unable to add some persons to List.

Since the new look of Lists I am unable to add some persons to Lists because the search function in the edit List feature cant find them. This only seems to happen if I try to add/find porn actors/actresses and add them to a List.

Can you please share a couple examples of people who you are unable to locate in the search function when adding to list?  Thank you.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm6786985
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm9231872
to name a few examples

from what I cant tell it only seems to affect actreses/actors that only have credits in adult Movies. When I try to add a Person that has both Adult credits and non adult credits the search function seems to find them. example Krissy Lynn http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3317151

Hi Valkyrslayer,

This is a work-around until IMDb makes it possible to search for these people: use the name IDs to search for:
nm2990153 Jordan Kingsley
nm6786985 Jade Jantzen
nm9231872 Lux Lives

In general, you can use the person ID to add a person to a people list and the title ID to add a title to a title list. Name IDs are of the form nm1234567 and title IDs are of the form tt1234567.

Karen, Official Rep

I stumbled on the update to the original announcement below.
When you do such an edit, could you also do a comment or a reply echoing that update?
We who are following the thread do NOT receive notices for edits to prior posts.

Update Dec 8: Thanks for all the feedback; we're working our way through the issues.
  • We have fixed the description display issues (&, +, -, line break issues)
  • We've updated List export to include director, release date, and URL. We will add Rating back soon.
We're currently working on:
  • Bringing back the view counter, re-enabling the ability to export other users' lists, and adding pagination to related lists.

I tried the export, and the restored columns were not placed in the same sequence as before; this is important to some of us with historical files, and certainly you should use the same format across all your exports (Ratings file has the original columns).

As per Dan Dassow's earlier post, the sequence was:
For reference, these are the data fields exported from my "Your Ratings" list. Bolded and underlined fields are not currently exported for a title list.
  • position
  • const
  • created
  • modified
  • description
  • Title
  • Title type
  • Directors
  • You rated
  • IMDb Rating
  • Runtime (mins)
  • Year
  • Genres
  • Num. Votes
  • Release Date (month/day/year)
  • URL
It would seem reasonable that exporting a title list would include the same data fields as an export of a ratings page.

BUG LIST for this thread

I wanted to collect all the bugs and suggestions we reported since the switch flipped on Dec 6. I'll put the suggestions in a second list as a comment to this one to keep them together.

If I omitted something, accept my apologies and let me know. I'm certain that although I just scanned through all 4 pages of posts, some posts didn't display unless I clicked a View More link midstream. I may have missed some that way.

I've included responses from IMDb officials when got something.
  1. missing 4 columns from export lists and checkins: directors, you rated, release date, url; added back dir, rel and url, but not in original sequence; working on adding ratings
  2. fixed: missing list of lists
  3. fixed: description display issues (&, +, -, line break issues)
  4. description display issues (&, +, -, line break issues) on Image list
  5. view count was removed; now it's back but vast quantity of counts are missing; will it show the "in last 3 days" or similar count?
  6. within Edit mode, Select list (to copy or move titles) doesn't include a Create new list option
  7. in Edit mode, Add a title doesn't find TV episodes or short films unless the title id is used
  8. in Edit mode, Add a title doesn't support using the full url
  9. in ATS and when sorting lists, IMDb rating order is no longer accurate: when titles have the same visible average, they are then sorted by popularity instead of further decimal places
  10. Related lists to a title is restricted to 100 lists; Col says we'll get full access back in early 2018
  11. description user link [link=ur###] gives wrong text and wrong link
  12. Edit mode, reordering a title in a list of over 1000 titles gives false feedback on refresh "1,301 - 2 of 2" at bottom of screen, 2 titles at top of screen
  13. Edit mode, reordering a title, leaving comma in position number gives NO change in order
  14. Edit mode, reordering all titles but one, the unaltered title does not retain its position
  15. Edit mode, adding title to last page of list longer than 1000 titles, falsely shows new item's position as 2; Karen replied 'looking into it'
  16. RSS watchlist feed reverted to HTML instead of XML.
  17. exporting another person's lists is gone; Karen says they're working on it
  18. the creation date for a list is gone; Karen says they're working on it
  19. text produced for company link is missing (just displays co code) [link=co###]
  20. display of non-Latin alphabet in descriptions has failed; now just string of &##; codes
  21. starmeter and date of birth gone from people lists
  22. people list, edit, add search doesn't find porn cast

Suggestions for Title Lists since Dec 6 change to Lists
  1. return drag/drop reordering to Edit mode
  2. add Refine features to Ratings list
  3. return the old compact view, esp. mouseover the description icon displaying description
  4. Edit mode: need Last Page link
  5. Edit mode: need page navigation and Done button on top and bottom of each page.
  6. Edit mode: need copy to, move to, delete and Save List Order on top and bottom of each page
  7. Edit mode, Add title: alternate titles appear; need titles that match the search; see how it's done on iPhone app
  8. Watchlist should include Refine option for On TV (and support all options that regular lists do)
  9. need method to change TV service provider for On TV accuracy
  10. return description text formatting previously supported (colors, etc.) https://www.imdb.com/activity/help/descriptionmarkup
  11. Edit mode: provide one-button delete title again
  12. List view: Option to show more than 100 titles per page
  13. Sort lists by description/comments entered

Since posting the bug and suggestion lists, I've received no emails from this site.

Ah. problem on my end.

Here it looks as though I can't edit either the reply (bug list) nor the comment (suggestion list), and I need to add to suggestion list; I'll do it here for now:

Suggestion 14. Edit mode, alter position, allow <enter> within position box to trigger Save List Order.

Hello bederoes,
I miss one error in your list and that is that the title of the movies is not the same in the display mode as in the export file. In listing they are showing the local title (in my case the Swedish release name) but in the export file it is showing the original title. For me this is a big issue.

OK, if I understand correctly:

Bug 23. Export list, title should be the local version (per user settings), not the original version

more Bugs:
24: Edit mode, TV episode does not show name of series
25: Can't edit Watchlist with > 9,999 titles; get error 500

Additional Suggestions (I just had to find a View Previous link to find my original list in this thread of comments).
14. Edit mode, alter position, allow <enter> within position box to trigger Save List Order.
15. return to old compact view, with column for date rated
16. Add the Refine sort options to Edit mode to facilitate Move To selection and List Order changes.

Things I need
  • Predictable, deterministic, well-defined reordering behaviour. The >1000 film, "2 of 2 pages" and 2nd position bugs all need fixing.
  • At least one way to move an item one position upwards that doesn't require any scrolling. This can be drag and drop or, as bderoes has suggested, a form submit event firing whenever the user presses enter inside a position textbox. The current solution of scrolling down to an item, changing its position number, scrolling all the way back up and then clicking a button to move an item up one place is not good enough.
  • Fixed "Export CSV". It should export the same fields as before. And it should actually work. I'm still getting a ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_CONTENT_DISPOSITION, which sounds like "this is not a recognised file and HTTP response combination".
Things I want
  • Colour tags returned. These are very useful in complex lists that make extensive use of comments to give additional information about films. I can see absolutely no reason for their removal. I find it perplexing. Sure, as a feature, it's probably used by a fraction of a percent of all list-makers but the people who do use it are overwhelmingly the advanced and popular list-makers most likely to leave for another platform.
  • List comments no longer italicised. There are other ways to demarcate text as "user content". All perma-italics does is make our comments look less presentable and preclude the use of italics for emphasis and for the grammatically correct citing of film titles.
  • The film search from within list editor mode has been absolutely castrated: far fewer results and no subdivision into "exact", "substring" etc. I want it returned to how it was before.
Open questions
  • How does the new view counter work? Is it now counting all list views from an arbitrary date? If so, when? Is there a rolling window? I'm fine with modifying every list to start counting views from the same date but I want the total to be cumulative rather than rolling. From now on, our view counts should only ever increase.
Things you've done well
  • Formatting fixes were rolled out quickly and effectively. There's been no damage to my list's contents.
  • Comments now feel central to lists (which is exactly what they are on my list). The separated and expanded comment area is the change I never knew I needed. The width is spot-on for readability while making comments feel like less of an afterthought.
  • Finally - finally - links work properly in the main list description box.
  • The whole UI on both the user and editor side just looks better to me now. There's no debating that the old UI was starting to feel very web 2.0. That's not inherently a bad thing, of course, and some people will prefer it but I rather like the new look.
  • I love some of the minor touches like being able to see full comments in editor mode rather than a scrolling textarea.
One single feature that would stop me migrating from IMDb
  • The ability to reorder my entire list from a single page (i.e. an option to display all items on one page). I've been promising people that I would reorder my list so that all films in a particular genre would end up on page 3. Given that I have 1300 items in total and the items I need to move are scattered at unknown locations throughout those 1300, finding and moving them all without a one-page view would just be a hellish experience.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. The team are reviewing this thread regularly so please bear with us.

In the meantime, do you have an iPhone or iPad? The list implementation on our iOS app is actually the best one -- Android, mobile web and the desktop web are playing catch-up with the power of iOS.  One the advantages of the new changes is that they clear the path for the same powerful list experience on all platforms.

I have nearly 300 lists with a total of tens of thousands of items, including all my film diaries by year, which are essentially the original basis for IMDb;  I do almost all my list management on my iPhone.  Functionality includes drag & drop re-ordering over list entries, no matter what the length.  The one thing (currently) missing is the ability to add notes to items, however, the plan is to make all list experiences equal in 2018 (and you can use the web to add/update notes; iOS displays them without edit options).

@watchinglotsofstuff

You reported the message  ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_CONTENT_DISPOSITION when attempting an Export.
I got that yesterday, and determined it was because my List's name had a comma early enough to be included in .csv file name. When I removed the comma I was able to export.

I was also able to export someone else's list of almost 10,000 titles, so people should be able to Export large lists of their own now.

Curious: is your View count moving since they restored it? Mine are not popular enough to know if the counter is working yet.

@bderoes: Hi, friendo. I had a lumbar puncture this week so not really been in the mood for much list-making. But, yes, my list count was increasing. Moot point now though since they seem to have almost fully restored the old functionality. God bless complaining!

Yeah, I figured out the presence of 3 (!!) commas in my list title was screwing me over. The thing is: I just don't want to change the name of my list on principle. It was exporting before with its existing title and it should be exporting now. Maybe I'll yield if it never gets fixed and I need a backup but right now, I'm going to have (perhaps misguided) faith in the IMDb team.

@Euler, Keester: I agree. At university I often used to be able to predict how much I would dislike someone based on how many Apple products they owned,

Unfortunately, that's why I don't have easy access to an iPhone for the IMDb app. I don't tend to know the kind of people who own iPhones. In this one case, it's a shame.

@watchinglotsofstuff: Good to hear from you. I hope your lumbar puncture, and the reason for getting it, are turning out to be good for/about your health! I missed you! Shall I send an email to the address I found on the contact page of your adventures website? GS is not the place for me to follow up on your status.

I had never really backed up my lists, and with all the sudden changes on this site (I pity the dedicated reviewers, and many other subsets of users in just the last month), that it was time. So I took out the comma and don't feel inclined to bring it back. Of course, once they restore the my_rating column, I'll want to backup a lot of them again.

I'm really amazed at how little the IMDb staff acknowledges bug reports, and that they don't report back when they've fixed stuff. The bug list is up to 26 items now, and 17 suggestions.  I only know of 6 that have been touched, and mostly because I discovered it or other users reported success. Of course, I'd rather they work on fixing things than on telling us about them, but ...

Thank you! <3

I'd tell you what's up with me but this place is a little too public for my liking. Also you can call me Elliott. It's shorter and more accurate.

You're an effective stalker, my friend. I don't even think that email address goes anywhere anymore. If you've got Facebook, I'm down in my own list comments talking to people. It's a shame they removed IMDb PMs, eh?

I kept weekly backups of my list for a long time because I'm a cynic. I was half expecting the list feature to just disappear in the middle of the night. I'm shocked that they decided to "improve" it rather than remove it, frankly.

You're doing an excellent job of being IMDb's bug tracker. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates it! I think we can take some limited solace in the fact that they do actually appear to be fixing things (seemingly at random) from your list. A status update from them would be nice but actions > words and all that!

I must lay flat on my back and not get annoyed according to my doctor so I shall remain zen on the list issue. Maybe when the crippling fatigue wears off they'll have magically fixed everything.

Happy to see you still here :)

Well, since I missed the idea of checking the comments section on your list (way, way far from the top; wouldn't it be nice if IMDb offered a Close option for the List's Description?), I give myself a C- at best for stalking.

I just left you a PM on FB, and hopefully turned on Message Notifications on my end. I'm a social media abstainer, but have a minimal FB acct.

Do you guys even think of use cases when you design your changes? The new lists are awful. All I want to do is to filter my list by movies I rated and move them out to another list. It was very easy with old structure, how many hoops I need to jump through now to do this simple operation? It's FUBAR, shame.

Ah, yes, the good old days of compact list with Refine options and checkboxes and Copy/Move options.

If I wanted to do this today on a long list, I'd use the Refined list, tick the + in the corner of the poster to place the title in my WatchList, and transfer from the Watchlist to the destination. An extra step for sure, and I'd need to remember the first title added to Watchlist.

But I must confess that, except for the loss of drag/drop sorting, and needing navigation&other options at the bottom&top of the page, I like the new Edit mode a lot.. Seeing that I haven't rated the title yet is a great help, as is the title having an active link, and the comment box's flexible size. Perhaps the biggest benefit to me is the ability to reverse the sort order within Edit, so I can quickly access the titles just added to the end of the list.

@bderoes  The drawback of moving a title from a specific user-created list to Watchlist is that your own personal comments (in the "Add A Note" section for each title) are not transferred along with it. After being transferred to Watchlist, the Add A Note section is blank. If the Add A Note section moved along with the title (like it does when you move a title from Watchlist to another list), I could learn to live with this new system.

Unfortunately, the Advanced Title Search option does not allow a title to be moved from one list to another. No checkboxes.

@Pete
Moving or Copying to the Watchlist does NOT lose comment data. I just tried it now. And with our new Update, the Edit mode for Watchlist lets you edit or add comments.

Using the Flag on an ATS compact list or on a title page or a + on a poster is Adding, not moving or copying, and that indeed creates a comment-free entry in the Watchlist.

I don't use comments on all my lists, and you didn't mention that you had comments to preserve in your original post.

I agree that Edit mode needs the Sort and Refine features that we have outside of Edit. I did  NOT intend to say the system is perfect as is.

I stand corrected, bderoes. I just did a test with one title (moving it from Library Hold to Watchlist, then back to Library Hold) and my comments moved along with it. I swear this didn't work yesterday! I appreciate your comment, as I probably would have given up and figured that function was lost forever.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Display and edit settings in list..

I see that there have been recent changes to list edit page. And I am severely disappointed in seeing that still there is no option/way of displaying all the items on one page(while viewing or editing).

People at Imdb must understand that it becomes very difficult to manage the list when there are a total of hundreds of items in the list and only 100 items displaying on one page!
To know where to insert the item, or even just to view the whole list, one has to traverse through a lot of pages and do a lot of clicks and scrolling down.

I think Imdb has missed a great opportunity to fix this issue. I request to please provide this option. If you can't, the least you can do:-

  1.  is to provide the button/click option, to traverse to next page at the starting/top of the page, because everytime one has to go to the next page, one has to first scroll all the way to the down!    And/Or,
  2. provide the option to go/traverse to any page(first, second, third, fourth, etc.), on all of the pages - the way it is on Google Search pages.

Thanks.

This capacity was probably available before this week's update, but...

Because of Dan Dassow's superb revelation that ATS compact formatting can be applied to lists made by others, I have also applied this technique to comparing someone else's list with mine, namely: set up the ATS with 2 of my lists, then replace the id of my surrogate list with the id of the other person's list.

So this URL
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?lists=ls076628701,ls007035631
gives
Most Popular Titles In Your "megapack: Family Classics 50" List, In Your "own" List

The first list is the surrogate, so I replace ls076628701 with the id of the target list on a different account, and I get the subset of titles belonging to both lists.

Of course, if you want to refine the search with other parameters, you have to do so on the surrogate, and then substitute the target again. And there's no reason one of your own lists need be involved, except as a surrogate. Anything ATS can do to my lists, I can get it to do to a list not mine.

I'm very excited about this, since it beats the heck off importing that other list (100 titles at a time) into my account, doing my searches and then deleting the import.

Dan, thanks AGAIN!

I created a simpler tutorial, suitable (I hope) for people who've never built a list:
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls027342264/ "Advanced Title Search for lists NOT your own"
If you want to refer to it in your list description, or steal the text, feel free.

On the other hand, I'd like this capability to be welded into ATS. Here's an Idea I posted to this forum. Please vote for it and/or comment there:

Yeah, well I just replicated your situation, and found out that the "missing" title was a duplicate of the SAME title in my list twice. You probably have 2 duplicates.

It didn't take me long to find the problem. Just sorted both versions with the same criteria, and both lists with 100 titles per page. Checked that first and last titles matched on page 1, etc. When I found a mismatch, looked at the middle title on both copies of that page, cut the bad half in half again, then matched one at a time.

But now that you know it's probably duplicates, once you've found the mismatch page(s), you can probably just scan down the original list and spot the dupes.

And just why would anybody want the same title included in a list TWICE or more. I've discovered this in some of my lists before. How exactly duplicates occurred I'm not sure but it could have been in merging two or more lists into a new one.

Anyway my point is why does IMDb allow duplicates! Shouldn't lists be UNIQUE

Keester,

You've raised this issue previously.

There are legitimate reasons to have a title in a list multiple times. There are a few examples in the IMDb polls.

I just created a list today documenting all the titles and actors included in a mashup video that used the same titles more than once, but different scenes therein and different actors in the different scenes. So 16 of the 82 titles listed were duplicates. I certainly wouldn't want IMDb preventing me from making such a list, because each entry was also time-coded with the scene in the video.

In other lists, my erroneous duplicates did occur by copying or moving from another list without remembering that some entries would be dupes.

When we use the add-to-lists drop down on a title page, not only does it NOT add to a list twice, but when you have duplicates, and Un-check that list, it removes all occurrences of the title.

So I would argue strongly against your advocacy for Uniqueness.

It's very clear from all the postings to this thread that different people use IMDb, and even  just the list feature, for many different purposes. That's a virtue, not a vice.

bderoes,

Thank you. I've used the title list for similar reasons.

I have no use for duplicates. Regarding

but when you have duplicates, and Un-check that list, it removes all occurrences of the title.
I agree with you but first you have to discover the duplicates before that "FIX" can be applied.

I maintain my position for UNIQUE.

So, because YOU have no use for duplicate titles in a List, you believe the entire system should prevent duplicates for everyone?

How does it hurt you to have a duplicate in your list? It's not so difficult to find them (discussed a few comments above this), and others find them useful.

I think we can find lots of better things for IMDb developers to work on than preventing duplicates for some users and not others.

FYI:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_(abstract_data_type)
In computer science, a list or sequence is an abstract data type that represents a countable number of ordered values, where the same value may occur more than once.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Set_(abstract_data_type)
In computer science, a set is an abstract data type that can store certain values, without any particular order, and no repeated values.

@Keester
I am genuinely curious about my question to you: "How does it hurt you to have a duplicate in your list?"

Especially since the system doesn't force it to happen, doesn't mandate that you use it.

But when you lobby for Uniqueness, you are advocating removing functionality that others use and enjoy. Isn't there something in the last week that IMDb has removed that you want back? That's how others would feel if you won the debate for uniqueness.

I don't understand what you would gain by having duplicates banned.

Here are 2 topics for gratitude: we have the time and resources to indulge in IMDb. And I was able to Export someone else's title list of almost 10,000 entries!

@Keester:

I see you have several very long lists. I picked the first long one, did ATS to see if it had dupes, Exported it, and isolated the dupes.

On your list ls074047442
All the TV Series & Episodes I own..and those I've seen, I've rated part 1

had 9998 titles, 5 duplicates (none have comments)
Position    Const      Created
6405 tt0096373 2015-10-17
1841 tt0096373 2015-06-15
8141 tt0119545 2016-01-06
8099 tt0119545 2016-01-06
6397 tt0279693 2015-10-17
658 tt0279693 2015-06-15
8466 tt4090552 2016-01-09
8465 tt4090552 2016-01-09
9406 tt4669954 2017-01-02
9405 tt4669954 2017-01-02

If position is not important, these dupes can be removed from the title page (deselect and re-select that list). Since you have multiple lists with long names that are the same until the end, remember that the list of lists in that drop-down is in date modified order, and if this list wasn't first, it will be after the first deselect. If you decide to rename your list, beware that a comma in the name can prevent Export (I submitted a problem report, so maybe they'll fix it.) Right now, your comma is safely beyond the point where it would be included in the .csv name.

If position is important, and you want to delete one instead of the other, I have good news. Within Edit mode, it is possible to alter the URL to go directly to the page you need. Remember page 1 will hold titles 1-100, so title 6405 should be on page 65. Here would be your url:
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls074047442/edit?sort=list_order,asc&page=65

In case someone is reading this who wants to find duplicates in their own long list, here's what I did in Open Office Spreadsheet; Excel will be the same with one possible exception noted below:
  1. sort the whole sheet by the title ID
  2. insert a new column before col A
  3. in cell A2, enter the formula =IF(OR(C2=C3;C2=C1);"*****";"")
    1. in Excel each ; might need to be ,
    2. I used the OR to see both dupes after step 8
  4. copy cell A2
  5. highlight all the cells in column A that have title data in their row (I do this by ctrl-End to the bottom of the list, highlight the last col A cell, hold shift while pushing the scroll bar up to the top, and clicking on the cell A3)
  6. paste the clipboard to all those highlighted cells (you could paste to the whole column, but I've had trouble with that in the past).   //Rather than scrolling through the list, I want to bring the dupes to the top, so:
  7. highlight col A, copy col A, Paste Special (not just Paste) col A (text but not formulas)
  8. click on a cell in col A (very important!) to release the highlight, then sort Z to A
You should see your dupes at the top of the list.

Although that process is faster than it looks, it might be faster to check for dupes before merging lists - if you remember do to it. (ATS, Include both lists.) BTW, I didn't use a spreadsheet to find dupes in my 1700+ title list; I described that above: Sorted both versions (ATS compact result and Edit mode of the list) with the same criteria, and both lists with 100 titles per page. Checked that first and last titles matched on page 1, etc. When I found a mismatch, looked at the middle title on both copies of that page, cut the bad half in half again, then matched one at a time.

I know very well how to find duplicates. Thank you for teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs.

My contention is that lists should be UNIQUE so as duplicates don't occur. Nothing in an entry in a title list can be different from a duplicate entry except comment. Director is always the same, URL is always the same, etc. If comment is the only thing that can be different why not merge them into one comment.

Poll-makers may want to separate the stats. In a sense, each vote is for a comment rather than a linkable entity.

In my recent example, I wanted to list the same movie twice (or more) because different clips with different actors were present in the mashup video, with several other clips from other movies in between. The list follows the flow of the video. Of the 82 clips, one film was had clips at positions 39 and 48, another at 6 and 49. The point of the list was to allow the viewer to watch the video, and with the list along side, see the names of the actors on screen. If both credits were compressed into a single entry in the table, that would not be nearly so useful.

Both Jeorj and Dan have mentioned polls. I've seen several polls that use the same movie more than once, but different scenes are up for a vote. Those have to be in the same list to be in the same poll, yet they need to be separate items, not 2 comments on the same entry.

I still haven't heard why you find duplicates offensive to your use of lists. You've successfully explained that only the comments can be different, and you seem indifferent to others uses for the feature that has existed for a while (forever?) Why does it matter that your list of 10,000 titles has 5 duplicates? Or is it another type of list you keep where this is a problem?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled RSS feed for watchlist is showing normal web-page content for watchlist instead o....

When I go to the page http://rss.imdb.com/user/ur5439845/watchlist I expect to see RSS/feed XML content, but I'm greeted with a normal web-page of my watchlist. I'm using this feed with another service, which is showing parse failures because it doesn't contain valid feed XML anymore.

Can you please fix this issue? I noticed it today, so it could be a regression from a recent software update of your system.

Kind regards,
Robin Smidsrød

Without compact mode its like writing a book but instead of now 2 or 3 paragraphs per page its like one sentence a page.  That's what its like for me without compact mode (250 titles a page).  Its extremely annoying.  I'd rather make my lists on Microsoft Word.  There was no reason to get rid of this feature, other than possibly money (which I don't see a reason for that).  I view/update my lists all the time in compact mode and find it very frustrating that it is gone now.

Can IMDB please at the very least make these lists available in compact mode only for the publisher of the lists?  Again its like writing a story but you have to keep flipping/scrolling up page after page to see what you wrote just a little while ago.  I would appreciate a response as I have been a long time IMDB user since the 90s.  Thank you we appreciate your work and hope you value our input.

If you need all the functionality of the old compact list (as do I), this suggestion won't help you. But if seeing the list compressed and taggable will help some situations (as it does for me), then use Advanced Title Search, or this URL replacing "watchlist" with your target list id (including lists not your own):
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=250&view=simple&lists=watchlist

Credit for this idea belongs to Dan Dassow!

Thanks for the suggestion but yeah unfortunately its not what I'm looking for.  I would really like the old format back.  To be honest I haven't even looked at my lists since the change has been made.  I'm probably just going to export it and do it all through Word like I used to.

I really hope to hear back from the IMDB staff to at least acknowledge or give my suggestion a thought.  Again would appreciate it if IMDB at least lets the publisher view their own lists in compact mode at least.  Editing mode isn't really much better.  I just want to see my list by title, year, votes and rating.  I don't need to see full descriptions, pictures or my comments because I know what they are already.

OK now I kinda see why.  There's a watch now button with the detailed and grid view.  But I don't see how they wouldn't be able to add that with the compact view.  Just add a little icon next to the title if they're so eager to make people watch on Amazon.  Like a watch now hyperlink next to the title.  Can you do this please IMDB?
