Rating process not optimised

Hello. I've started rating films, at first in bulks, to rate films I already saw long time ago, but I find the rating process to be very very tiresome. On most websites rating system is much simpler, you hover over the poster, or film title, and a small box with stars appears, and then you simply rate any film with one single click. This is fast and simple process, and it works great on "Movielens" or "Filmweb". But since IMDB is the biggest database, I'd rather rate everything here, but I'm very much discouraged by how cumbersome the process is. It's not a big problem when you need to rate just one film you recently saw, but sometimes I go over lists of films, or films by a particular director, and instead of clicking just once, I need to first click on the title, then it opens another page, then I need to click on a star for the rating option, and then I need to click again, so it takes 3 clicks and time for a page to load, instead of a simple 1 click, and this way you don't need to go back to where you were, you just continue.

I'd love to see this implemented, so each time you see a film title, no matter where on the website, you can simply hover over it, and add rating with 1 click.

Thanks

I'm not sure you're taking advantage of the existing features.

If you view a list on IMDb, don't view it in poster mode ("grid view").
Use Detail View or Compact View (the second and third options).

Then the title appears with a rating option directly on the list's page:

No need to wait for the title's page to load. Just click on the Rate link, and the bar of stars appears:

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, yes, I'm using this whenever I'm going through some actual lists. By "list" I meant something more general, like for example you go to Quentin Tarantino director profile, and you see all his films, ideally, I'd like to quickly rate all his films I saw, by hovering and clicking on a star with one click, to save time, without opening each film on a separate tab, and then do more clicking. There is already way too much clicking involved.

The only section on IMDB that actually works great is "More Like This" section below each film, where you can actually just hover over the poster, and you can rate with one click, I'd like to see this implemented all over the website. This would be awesome.

As for your suggestion, I tried it also in "compact" mode, which should work similarly, but I discover a bug. When I click on "Rate", a small popup with stars appears, but it's partially hidden by the section on the right, so you cannot see the whole scale, as you can see here:

I find this IMDB website quite buggy and not very well optimised for user experience.

OK, I agree that being able to rate on a filmography page is nice. And you can: just use the Quick Links > Explore More>Filmography (any except by Job).

This sample is by Year:

So far as your example where the voting range is cut off: that doesn't appear to be a list. I see no such bug on a list, and the right column is significantly different:

Nor does it appear to be Advanced Title Search (again, right column differences):

Perhaps it was the result of clicking on a genre of Drama on a title page:

So I see the bug you're reporting with this URL.
https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?genres=drama&explore=title_type,genres&view=simple
Please report any other such bugs with the URL that you used.

Hi Taylor

Thanks a lot for letting me know. I'm glad it's been fixed and I'm happy to report such bugs in the future, so we all have better experience here on IMDB.

The only thing it's kind of difficult for me to accept is the rating process which I described at the beginning. It might not be such an issue when updating personal ratings regularly, but when someone is actually starting with the process and already watched hundreds or thousands of films, it is extremely slow and painful process to type each of the film and click so many times. Hovering the mouse on top of every link to the film or a poster and rating with one single click would benefit IMDB a lot, as it would encourage more user to actively participate.

Of the scenario when I think it would help a lot is, when you view the profile of a particular director, and when you see the list of the films he/she directed, it would be very fast to simply hover over each of the film (tiny pop up with stars would appear) and then you just click on the star, and continue rating another, and another. Imagine you watched all of his/her films, it would be nice to quickly rate them all without even leaving the profile. And this is how it's done on aforementioned sites to some extent. The only widget that works perfectly this way on IMDB is "Recommended For You", it's only hovering, and rating with one click, which is perfect

I really believe the rating process should and could be much more intuitive and well developed, and IMDB would then definitely be the best database as it is, but also the best site for rankings and recommendations.

I'd also like to hear your thought on this subject :)
Best Regards
