List numbers are wrong (again)

Hello, i just experienced another problem with the list numbers. (I experienced a very similar issue two months ago and it was solved: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/list-numbers-are-wrong) 

I was updating the list when i noticed the number for "the portrait of a lady" was wrong:



it is listed as number 555 in the list, even though I typed in 559. The correct number does show when leaving editing mode:



I have found the four missing digits:



I want to continue editing my list but i'm afraid it will mess my order even further. I assume the error is the same that i experienced before and thats the reason why i also posted this message in that board. Thanks for the help :)

Hello, I have a problem with the numbers on my list HAYA: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls044452712/

The problem appeared after adding the movie Ad Astra (2019) to the list and move it to position 63. And now it's impossible to edit the list.

The problem was resolved a few days after the message was posted. Because I was busy at that time and then I completely forgot, i do not post a message.

 

Thanks for everything, until today there is no problem with the list.

I checked the help page to make sure I wasn't missing anything, but it's not working as described here: Lists FAQ: How can I move/rearrange the order of list items?

For ex, when editing a list if I try to move items 9 & 10 to slots 5 & 6, it will move 9 to 5 (expected) but 10 to 7 rather than 6 (unexpected).  And it's even more of a shuffled mess if I try to move more than 2.  I tested this on 2 different browsers & computers to rule out anything on my end.

However, the site should really implement the same drag & drop grab bar/handle used in the app for quick list sorting rather than having to manually type in numbers.  This method is tedious and archaic.

Here is the list I tested: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls092933578/ but there is no error.  It just sorts them incorrectly after saving the list order.

Steve, I believe you have merged shape5's report into the wrong topic.
I'll show you an example below, and perhaps shape5 can confirm it represents what he described.

Shape5, you may want to vote for/comment on some/all of these threads:

Here's what I've seen, and sounds like shape5's report:

Before, trying to move 5th title to 1, 4th title to 2 (slightly different than shape5's description; wanted to show the weird result is not specific to that exact situation):

After: the title desired at 1 is ok, but the title desired at 2nd landed at 3rd:

This does not actually conflict with the example on the help page, which moves 2 titles in opposite directions to the top & bottom of the list. But somewhere here on GS is/was a detailed discussion of what the sort does with the new position information. Perhaps it's time for a new explanation to make "sense" of this result.

With the loss of drag & drop, I usually move only 1 title at a time, and when I move 2, I expect to need to correct a result.

Thanks for the links to those other threads.  They didn't come up in the results when I submitted my topic title.

It doesn't conflict with the specific example on the help page of moving 2 titles in opposite directions, but this behavior is not happening as described:
When you update the order position of multiple items in your list, the order of the remaining items will automatically shift up/down in rank accordingly.
If I rearrange several items in the same fashion, it will shuffle them.  For ex, if you try moving title 8 to 4, 7 to 3, 6 to 2, and 5 to 1, you'll see what I mean.

With the loss of drag & drop, I usually move only 1 title at a time, and when I move 2, I expect to need to correct a result.
Exactly, that's why it needs fixing and why I have to do all rearranging on the app.

I am experiencing issues with one of my lists; I have faced the same problem in the past again..There are duplicate numbers in different entries when I go into edit mode. Even if I change the numbers manually the problem persists. (link of list: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls057820068/). For example you may see below:
