Why is it that every "new and improved" version, is worse than the old version? This new version takes up far too much screen space. Where is the light theme option? Dark themes suck.

Yepp. Like everything has to be dark, and everything has to take up as much screen space as possible. If there was an option, I'd use the light theme.

@trog Agree, everything is all over the place, it's crazy. A lot of the time I split between two windows too and I have to scroll down even further to find the information I need. Everything is gigantic. But, the worst for me is the black background with the white text. I'm not lying when I say it gives me a headache. It's so hard on the eyes. I miss the good old days!

I'll ad another "I HATE this "new" design. It is NOT user-friendly. You've managed to clutter up the page with things that are lacking in substance. I suspect I'll be migrating my time to TMDB, especially after you've managed to get rid of the user-provided content that IMDB used to have, which provided way more useful information than this ridiculous layout.

There seems to be a trend among web developers these days to make every website as bloated and unintuitive as possible. This update is a straight downgrade for the website on desktop computers.

Can you give us an option in account settings for which imdb skin to use: new or old?

The new design is unusable on PC, completely non-functional.

Another gripe: The genres is too hard to find as they don't stand out, and you can't easily copy/paste who's starring in the film now.

I've just been checking out an actor I recognised from a show (nm2523072). When I check his bio it shows what TV shows he's been in but not how many episodes in each show like it used to. So you can't tell if an actor's had a bit part or was the lead without clicking every single thing they've been in!

Please at the very least fix this. I like to check out other works by actors I like and usually do by using this feature to see if something they've had a recurring role in is any good and if they're any good in it.

I mean, the whole new layout is an eyesore but to be losing features as well is an insult. I'm going to start looking at other sites (TV Maze ot TVDB etc.) if things aren't fixed. That'd be a shame, I've been a loyal IMDB user and recommender for over a decade.

Edit: Gods I'm getting old! I just found my previous log-in details that I'd 'lost' when I changed PCs and I've been using IMDB as a member on a daily basis for over TWO decades. Previous to that I was a casual user of the site.

@shaunstephens_79119  As noted by @ACT_1 above (thanks), we have not made any changes to the name pages and you can control the number of episodes displayed via the settings page at https://www.imdb.com/preferences/general

@Col_Needham Hi Col. I've been trying to tweak my view settings, something I've never needed to do before this 'facelift'. I'd set that to zero as I thought it applied to episode synopsis at the top of a series page. (There's nothing worse than checking out a show I might want to watch and right there at the top of the page there are episode spoilers!)

I'll set it to 'all' again. I've already changed to 'reference view' as it's less eye watering than the standard new layout.

Cheers.

I was forced to use the newer version of the site and i dont like the newer version at all. I want to go back to older version.

Is there any workaround or other extensions to keep using the older site version.

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled Want to switch over to older version of the site

I, too, hate the newish site. Can't copy and paste a lot of items that I used to be able to. I keep my own records of movies I watch in an Excel spreadsheet. Before, I would be able to copy all the stars' names and paste them into a cell in Excel. Now that can't be done. Same for many other items on the page (genres, etc.).

Why? Why did IMDb have to change?

I wonder why the apparently unfinished version of the site was approved at all, you had to wait at least until the end of the year until everything was added and fixed, leaving the old version as a replacement option. This way we have a product that is not finished, and we are forced to use it. If we want, of course.

The new design is ugly beyond belief and very impractical to me! I am very disappointed and I will never contribute to imdb ever again.

I cant see the new interface in one window. I have to scroll too much. Please make it more compact. More info in less space. I want less scrolling, not more. I want to see more in one sweep. I want a one pager. Takes less time.  Thank you.

The new design is awful. Why would I want to come to a site with black pages? All of the information is spread all over the place and is hard to get to, as well. What were you thinking? Please. I am begging you to give all members an option to revert back to the old format. Otherwise, I will come to IMDB much less frequently. I used to love this site. Now I hate it.

I saw the new format a couple of days ago and thought it was terrible. Too hard to find the information I needed. I think it a backwards step or four.

Take this advice from very experienced designer currently working in Silicon Valley. I'm only giving this

advice because I use this damn site nearly every day.

Your redesign is a downgrade from the original design. And this is not a case of holding on to the past or refusing to change. This is a case of poor usability. Here is what's wrong with your redesign:

  • Too much scrolling. Your page size has tripled after the redesign and it takes 3x amount of actions to get to the information I want to see. That's 3 extra scrolls on my mouse to to any piece of information.
  • Too spacious for basic things that doesn't need that much space, which leads to too much scrolling. Table cells are too large. There is too much space between sections. Actor's round photos are too big. Headers are too big (we're not blind).
  • The new Episode blurbs are unnecessary and they take up too much vertical space. Just remove it and display the episodes like you previously did.
  • The "More Like This" section is way too big. It takes up too much vertical space.
  • And for the last time, the whole page is too damn long. There's too much scrolling. Make it more compact and it will be much easier to use.
  • Design is about usability, not how spacious and how clean you can make it look. You can afford to be spacious when you don't have a lot of information, but you have way too much information to be this spacious with your design.

Please give us back the option to use the old design, this new one is just horrible.
