What's the point of darkening the visible part only? My eyes are dying. Make it full dark.

Where can I find the COUNTRY of production of the film?

Thanks for the feedback @crista -- This is in the "Details" section, which is the same place as in the previous design.  Perhaps you looked on a title which does not have it? Here's one which does -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9620292/

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help, but the page is super long to scroll through, however found. Too bad not to give the opportunity to get used gradually and leave the old site still running...

@crista We did do that -- there's been an opt-in banner at the top of every title page since the start of December and an announcement thread at https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/title-pages-new-version-available-for-sneak-peek/5fc7eae5ce4ce1357af24f6d

I too want an opt out button please.

Not only is the new look hideous (what's up with all this dark crap these days anyway?), none of my browser addons intended to enhance the IMDb user experience work anymore, including the FilmBoards addon, which provides a replacement for the IMDb message boards that's nearly identical in look and feel, but without the heavy-handed moderation IMDb was infamous for. This is unacceptable.

So, Col_Needham, the question appears to be this. Probably at least 90% if not more of the comments here are saying the new design is crap, they don't like it and they want the old layout back (a sentiment with which I am in compete agreement). Are the "powers that be" at IMDb going to listen, or are they going to force this crap onto us regardless of what we want?

Yes, there has been an 'opt in' banner for a few months. But the fact so many people are complaining about it being hard to find what they want suggests that people liked the old design, didn't want (or need) the new design, didn't try the new design before now, aren't happy with the new design at all...

I mean, how many ways do we have to tell you...WE DON'T WANT THIS CHANGE!

@Col_Needham Add an opt-out. This layout is garbage. It's more difficult to use. It's slow. It's poorly designed.

hi, so today i am seeing the brand new layout on my laptop. i never go to the homepage .. for quite some time now..(since they changed the layout the last time) i always saw imdb as an "archive" (one of the most important archives to me).  my pattern: i look up a movie, i go through "more like this" and other people's lists, browsing & collecting movies. ( i so would have loved if they had implemented a way for people to communicate under the lists!)
so now taking in the changes i feel i can't deal with how they pages are made up - it's kinda bearable when my screen is on 67%.
question: any way to change it to anything else or back.. ? any other ideas?

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled new layout - is there a way to switch back to old/alternate versions?

Yeah, why would the company want to actually listen to their users. Heaven forbid. Just keep shoving down the throats of more and more people, pissing off more and more visitors. Great job, Colonel.

Col Needham, you are actually lying now when you say it's not possible to go back to the old layout. It is possible. You could just revert the changes.

What you actually should have said is "Yes, but we aren't going to."

See how much easier that is. At least tell the truth.

If he said they couldnt go back, he and his staff should be fired.  There is always and forever been the system backup function critical to the survival of data systems.  Look at the recent news re systems being held for ransom due to malware and others systems corrupted b y viruses, etc.  If imdb/amazon did not back up their data and software (amazon lost bid to serve DOD cloud requirement which Microsoft won) then they failed in their job.  Maybe there was a good reason for the Microsoft win.  Maybe there is a problem with the amazon cloud.  Col seems to suggest such a possibility.  Answer this question Col, did your people make system backup of data and software, frequency of such backups, how long are the retention periods and are there safeguard protecting the backups.  Maybe IMBD stored their backups on a gazillion floppy discs and it would take forever to restore.  Also, smart people make 2 backup copies in case there is a failure (disk crash) on one of the backups.  U can run but you cant hide.

@Col_Needham Remove this design. It's terrible. IMDB is useless now. This layout is horrible.

I don't like this version. There are many issues that makes the use of the IMDb more difficult.

- The release date is no longer on top of the site, so you have to scroll down

- The plot outline shows only the english version, you can no longer switch to the local language

- Multiple names in a row in the head section are no longer selectable for copying

- You only can change the view via the account menu and only to the advanced view, not the previous version

- You can no longer check in (at least I haven't found that option yet) equally to the advanced view

Please bring back the previous version! At least as a personal option!

release dates right at the top under the title, and is more clear than ever...

I don't know what people are having so much trouble with in finding things, everything is bigger and more clear now, which is helpful imo, might just be an adjusting period.

What I would like though is that they add the month and day back in, it's just the year now.

The release date you mean is the year that was in brackets behind the title before the change. The actual release date vanished from the top to the bottom. That's what one would want to know, which day the movie was released in one's country. Also the plot outlines in the different languages vanished completely! I hope they bring it back, otherwise I don't see a bigger future for the international usage of IMDb...

Just to note, I've only really complained about the inconvenience of having to click the "all topics" button in order to access an index of the title entry subpath pages, and I've criticized the fact that the cast is not a in a separate column from characters portrayed by the cast. I do agree with others about there being too much empty space between text blocks and other objects. I also find the style of having cast members' thumbnail pictures being circular instead of square to be somewhat ridiculous, and find that is constitutes even more wasted space.

Hi this new layout is totally unusable on my iPhone, it's still running ios10. The text is tiny and the pictures are enormous, bigger than the screen. You've captured the scrolling somehow so the pictures only move left-right. Now it's very difficult/impossible to move vertically down the page.

Thanks!

Pete

This is what I get. Absolutely hopeless. I can't say if I 'like' it or not, I can't even see it properly.

I very much dislike the new web page style that was just released for IMDb.  Would love an option to switch back to previous type of view.

I commented on May 18th or 19th on the new page layout when I looked up a movie I wanted details on to say how much I dislike the new version. I went back today to take another look and I believe I've figured out what you are trying to achieve with this awful re-do. I noticed many more and much larger ads. That proves to me that you have spread out the movie info to a larger format to increase the real estate it takes up on your site thereby providing more space to place bigger and more numerous ads which, in turn, increases your profit margins. In other words Imdb.com 2.0 amounts to nothing more than cheezy clickbait.

Am I just blind and am missing the section that was always at the bottom of a Movie/TV Shows page that was called "Similar Titles" or did this feature get removed all together? That was one of the main features I would use at IMDB and had uncovered many forgotten or unheard of gems over the years.

@jmike00 This is “More like this” and it is above the “Storyline” section — perhaps you checked a title which does not yet have any similar titles? Here is one which has the feature: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9620292/

Hope this helps

@Col_Needham Ok... and we have to click on the "i" just to see the release year of the movie? Why did they hide the year further away beyond an additional click?... I just love these similar movies suggestions from any era, but now I have to click on every movie poster just to know the era... What a waste of time... And previously we had 6 movie suggestions on the first glance, but now it is reduced to only 4... This new updated title page is a complete step down for cinephiles that love movie infos... The scroll wheel of my mouse will have twice the workload now...! Very sad & frustrating update...

The new IMDB on Chrome is worthless to me. I cannot copy and paste the lead actors anymore. Pure waste of time for me.

Useless for me. Can not copy and paste lead actors anymore. I archive films, create film database, the new version completely stops my job. I am NOT going to type in every lead actor.

Useless sidebar, too much graphics, not enough info. Have to scroll forever to get to info, then have to link off to another page for each item.

Worthless. Change it back NOW or I bail out.

Make IMDb great again by making it full dark on every page. It's hurting my eyes so bad. And the sad thing is, IMDb is now more mobile-friendly, or should I say touchscreen-friendly? But they have to know that not all of us browsing through mobile. Now it's so horrible for PC users.

That is what I was thinking.  This new format is geared towards smartphones and tablets.  It really makes no sense since browsing with a pc has always been a more powerful way to go.

I have now spent a little time with the new design (Title page experience). I don't like how the IMDB site feels on a desktop. Some things take up much more screen space than they previously did. Overall there is less useful information given in a single screen.

The "Top cast" section is especially cumbersome when the browser window is narrow. Also, clicking "Top cast" sends you to the "Full Cast & Crew" kind of confusing. The old table format that is still used on the full credits page is so much more readable. Now one of the most useful features (who's in the movie?) is harder to read.

"More like this" was right below the movie. For many people the "More like this" section may keep them engaged with your site. Now you have to scroll down to see it. Same problem with Editorial/user lists, which may also improve engagement.

I'm a power user on IMDB. I know I am not the target demographic here. However, the whole site feels big and spacey. I have to scroll/search for things that previously were a click away (and yes I've already familiarized myself with the layout). We can get used to whatever you send us. However, I feel like this layout has seriously detracted from the usability of the site. It is slightly more attractive and does draw the eye more to the videos and photos. Maybe this is a key area for some users? I'm more interested in the information than the pictures or video. This is a "database" site after all?

Lastly, the site feels slower. Things on the page load slower. I’ll have to give this more time to be sure about the speeds. However, for now it’s simply annoying to have to wait for things longer than I did before.

Long term user of the platform here, gotta say how much I dislike the new look. The desktop refresh so appalling I'm astonished the management approved it. I'm all for dark mode but not having the option to toggle it is dispiriting. In daylight, it's much harder to navigate this UI with a dark background than otherwise. Also, what's up with all the elements being obnoxiously big? The older version offered all the necessary information without scrolling down but that's impossible with the update.

Please stop fixing things that aren't broken. Thank you.

Couldn't agree more. I've been an IMDb user since 2005, and I utterly loathe this "new look." Not only is it ugly, none of my IMDb-oriented browser addons work anymore. It's utter crap, catering to the smart phone crowd while giving the middle finger to PC users.

Unfortunately, it appears we're stuck with it like it or not. "Col_Needham", who's apparently IMDb staff, has made it clear that the old layout is not coming back (or even going to be available as an option) no matter what 95% of IMDb users want. I recall Yahoo Messenger forced a design change that fully 99% of its users didn't want, and was gone within a year. IMDb had better hope they don't suffer the same fate.

Can someone tell me why I can't see release date (not year, full date) of a movie with a first look of a title page? Why did you remove it from beginning? There is still a lot of empty space there, no?

@abcd For titles which have not yet been released, the full date is on the right under the trailer as on https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3480822/

For titles which have been released, it is only in the “Details” section further down the page.  It is not a question of space — our customer research showed the exact date was less important for released titles.  What we do not put in a design is often just as important as what we do.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for explanation. Personally, it was one of the first things I looked at title pages, too bad apparently it's less important for some other people. Still I don't understand what harm it would have caused while there are so many empty space there but I'm sure there are reasons.

I think what he is saying is that idiot mobile users with twitter syndrome don't need "so much information" and PC users or actual Cinema buffs/collectors should "take the dumb down" and settle for less.

@Col_Needham Your designers are clueless. This layout is terrible. The old layout is vastly superior.
