INTRODUCING: Updated IMDb.com homepage experience

The new homepage is designed to help IMDb customers find what to watch right now, tonight, or this weekend — and where to find the best movies and TV shows for them, whether in theaters, on TV, or across a variety of streaming services (including IMDb TV, Prime Video, HBO, Starz, Showtime, Acorn TV, and PBS). Customers will benefit from a new recommendation engine that leverages implicit and explicit behavior to offer relevant and timely suggestions.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Problems to browse on new IMDB.

It is really bad that we can't find anything on your website anymore. For whom do you make those editor's list and IMDB picks for?
Why not just provide a link to them from menu like before?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled The new homepage is so bad. Do you even understand why we went on IMDB in the fir....

IMDB was created as a resource.  It was invaluable for researching all things film and was a regular stop when I surfed the net.  Not anymore.  It is a billboard that has awful navigation.  It's always sad when a great product forgets why the people who use it do so.  So disappointing.

Why is IMDb.com is in dark mode? can I change it? I hate dark mode, it's the worst thing that ever happened.

I personally enjoy dark mode, since my eyes can't take too much light without becoming strained. There should however be an option for light mode, since not every human is like me, which your reply in this conversation proves.

Dark mode hurt my eyes "you are right not every human like you", so we should get an option of both.

Homepage's new design is worse that coronavirus...

Yes & no. You do have a point but people can get over the Coronavirus with treatment. There is no treatment for that stupid ugly waste of a web page. It's just sick & should die so we can all celebrate over it's grave. The coronavirus will hopefully go away someday but that stupid webpage doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon.

Maybe it's just me being grumpy and having no sense of humor right now (and rather often, to be fair), but no. Design choices of any website, no matter how important for your daily habits will never compare to the fact that millions of people are loosing something to that disease, while hundreds also die from it every day.

People really should consider before joking about coronavirus that much. I understand the whole "laugh at the problem" mentality, but right now we're in the situation when joking about that often seems so unnecessarily rude considering how much it factors in our life. You wouldn't joke that much about AIDS, or plague or other deadly illnesses. That's right where this thing will be in the annals of history, as it seems as of now.

I just can't get behind people comparing mundane problems and misfortunes to something catastrophic, which threatens a lot of people.

It is such a shame that web design these days appear to be devolving ...

I haven't been a member of IMDb for that long (December, 2018), but I can quite clearly understand the fact that the site was probably better back in the day. As I said, it is simply a shame that a great chunk of websites and similar internet related things are getting seemingly worser qualities as time passes now.

By the way, as a new and dedicated member of the IMDb poll community, it would be much appreciated if you could bring back the featured poll section on the home page instead of hiding featured polls in "Editors' picks". Thank you.

Can't believe it's still showing US stuff despite my location being set to UK.

There's an ad for Killing Eve on AMC whereas it's on the BBC here in the UK

OK, I'm not sure why you think this is an improvement but your new homepage experience makes it completely impossible to use IMDb for its core features:
  1. Going "mobile first" with large graphics and block layout might work for a site primarily focused on media consumption, but that is not what IMDb is about. It is about providing information about movies -- and with the new layout getting a clear, detailed overview of information about movies is impossible.
  2. The site is dreadfully slow, even on my 6-core 3.6 GHz desktop CPU. I don't see how this will do well on devices that your new design is obviously catering to.
  3. None of the movie clips, trailers, etc. play anymore, because apparently you are now requiring EME (Google DRM) even for trailers and clips that are public?! What on earth are you thinking? My browser of choice excludes in-browser DRM, and it shouldn't be required for the movie information you provide. Please stop pushing Google's DRM agenda.

With the updated imdb.com homepage, are there plans to re-introduce full-fledged versions of imdb desktop/mobile website in other languages? Prior to February 2013, there were a number of different fully-localized versions of imdb such as IMDb.de, IMDb.fr, IMDb.it, IMDb.ua etc. which were all chopped and now redirect to imdb.com; more about it here https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/translated_sites_now_redirecting_to_imdb_com )

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Whatever happened to the Classic IMDB of a few years ago?.

You used to be able to type in an actors name or a movie title and be directed to IMDB which provided background information, acting credits, trivia, and even personal (marriages etc.) in varying degrees of depth depending on the length of an actors career.  It was quick, easy & free for a casual fan of TV, movies and actors and actresses who liked to know more about these people who made an impression through their various roles over the years.  That Classic IMDB has vanished.  If it's still available I'd like to know where to find it.  I feel like Rip Van Winkle who has just woken up and "I'm not in Kansas anymore"!

Nelson Haffner,
Just because the homepage changed doesn't mean the whole site is gone. The search box is still there, and still works great to do what you described. I certainly use it that way.

I've removed the home page from the tabs that open when I launch Chrome. I've put a bookmark for the Search Bar page on my bookmarks toolbar, and that's how I use IMDB these days, only when I need to look something up. They've completely lost my daily views with their abysmal redesign. I wonder how many people have done the same and what this means to their page traffic.

Why are the same post sometimes shown twice on the homepage?

Reloading the page will fix it, but it comes back again after a couple of reloads.

This may be due to my advancing age but it seems like the opening page of IMDb, with the black background and white text, is becoming increasingly hard to read.

I'm 71 years old and not everything in my body works the way they used to, but it seems like this has gotten much more difficult in the last while.
