INTRODUCING: Updated IMDb.com homepage experience

The new homepage is designed to help IMDb customers find what to watch right now, tonight, or this weekend — and where to find the best movies and TV shows for them, whether in theaters, on TV, or across a variety of streaming services (including IMDb TV, Prime Video, HBO, Starz, Showtime, Acorn TV, and PBS). Customers will benefit from a new recommendation engine that leverages implicit and explicit behavior to offer relevant and timely suggestions.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled The new homepage on iPad 4 with high speed internet.

Is a Black screen. It never loads its content.

What have you done, I'm was spending more than a hour a day on your site. Do you think everyone wants heavie homepages with lots of images and videos?

It's all about information, not the best graphics. It's all about navigation speed, not waiting and lag. It's all about a simple overview, not searching for you entry.

I'm a big fan for 18 years, you've one of the best content sites there is, but please get back to the old home page. I

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled IMDB's new website is so annoying!!!.

The new format is awful.  I'm using a 15" laptop to view it.  It screams at you!!  and remember the easy to view text, and navigation? It is gone.  Time to change to wikipedia..

Dear IMDb Editors,

During the previous version of the website, I used to visit the page more than 10 times a day and that too mostly because of the writing content and Poll Section at the bottom of the page.

Now all those are gone. I was just wondering what is the percentage drop of your regular website visit from the last two weeks?

Anyway, these days I am using the IMDb Android app because that still shows the writing content and poll section.

Just a request, if you guys really want to keep the current format of the website, please bring back the Poll Section at the bottom of the page at least.

Thank you.

DC

I think polls were the remaining survivors of the old days where you had the trivia question, the quote of the day etc... if it wasn't for the community poll makers formed, we might not even have had them back after one year and half (yes, we went on making polls for nothing during 18 months)

Meanwhile we had lost many, many contributors who'd been making polls for years and years... then it was the end of the message boards and we've lost other members... still, we formed a sort of solid core that maintained the poll effort and saw the decline of poll visibility (from page center to the bottom and polls that stayed many days in the homepage at the expenses of other valuable suggestions)

I'm not surprised by these changes and I guess we should be prepared for polls' disappearance, or maybe timely polls will be occasional instances but that's it. And we'll probably lose contributors... and that's it... it's sad but what can we do?

Today the IMDb Poll section has been removed from the Home Page of the IMDb App.

Thank you IMDb.

Just uninstalled the app.

Wow, the new homepage looks like crap on my screen.  I hate it.  IMDB, can you please give users the option of going back to the old settings?  This new format sucks, and I'm going to be visiting your website a lot less until you fix it.

<News> module is missing with an access to 'Top News', 'Movies News', 'TV News', etc.

Movie, TV and Celeb News are each present separately under the Menu button (top of every IMDb page).

Top News is still available here (found by searching the Site Index help page, linked at the bottom of every IMDb page):
https://www.imdb.com/news/top
That page also shows the Movie, TV and Celeb News.

Yes, instead of one click it now takes us three. That may seem like nothing, but isn't that going in reverse? It adds up.

Well it just got worse. I'm in the UK and choosing Coming Soon from the menu took me to UK release dates, now it's going to US ones.

Aaarrggghhhhh.

I reserve deeper thoughts about the new homepage to myself, but it kinda bothers me that with actors, the search option basically is "Celebs". Now, I have nothing against celebrities, since celebrities can be actors and actors can be celebrities (and many people in IMDb are really neither, since people are people). But the word "actor" feels a bit more professional to me.

? ?

Celebs or Actors
all should be just 'Names'
Some Crew Names here are not Celebs or Actors
And some of the Names here are Not People
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls026206011/

Need
1. search for Celebs or Actors
and
2. search for non Celebs or Actors

No

"name" :
John Wayne (1907–1979)

I second this. It's rather childish. Apart from that, it's also not true. Most people in the database are not celebrities.

^^ true. I'm in my 40's now, I admit I don't know all the modern "actors" but looking through the first 10 to 20 news about celebrities, I don't think I need to (or would want to) know about them either. TV celebrities, talk show celebrities, celebrity chefs (yes, that's a thing now)  famous for the sake of being famous celebrities, and of course there's the token kardashian and the token royalty person in there somewhere. I'm interested in news about actors, directors and people in the movie industry, not the gossip column nobodies.

As quite a few people mentioned, this new look is obviously Amazon's doing and I believe it's beyond the power of imdb to do anything about it, it looks like an order from above. I don't know Col Needham personally, but he always struck me as a movie lover first and foremost, instead of a businessman. I'm sure he'd have responded sooner or later, if there was anything he could do about it.

If Col Needham is really a movie lover, shouldn't he at least speak out about this matter? I mean, remaining silent is not the way to go. He should say something. His silence make me believe that Amazon made everyone sign non-disclosure contracts. Their continued silence is not helping this matter, but they probably believe that silence is golden. It's not. I do know that they are reading this thread.

He seems to have become more distant from the forum ever since the
Jiminy Cricket appeal-by-proxy incident, and that fictional character reference bit is just a placeholder for an actual person who shares the same initials. When the executive producers offer a diplomatic solution to a grievance therewith, it is best not to escalate the tensions with them on top of snubbing the offer, otherwise it should be time to part ways.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled New page design....anyone else thinking of quitting the site?.

So i am really not loving the new page layout.  Looking up videos and news is particularly painful if its not in the very top 4-5 stories.  I thought the whole point of IMDb is that it is a database of movies and entertainment and the people who work in them, and somewhere you can get updates and news about this stuff.  I mean it's in the title.  This new format feels like its designed for people with the attention span of a goldfish or its just become an online Netflix/Amazon guide.  I used to use IMDb every day but i think i'll stop if its going to stay like this.

Scrolling down though, it's hard to spot because it blends into everything because each section looks exactly the same.

Question #1:

Why are the IMDb desktop and mobile homepage showing different results?

For example, the poll(s) shown on the desktop homepage and the poll displayed on the mobile app are different.

Question #2:

What's the difference between "Editors' picks" and "IMDb Picks"?

I ask this because the poll displayed on the mobile app is the same poll posted on the IMDb Picks page.

One week - No answer

Should I create a new conversation regarding this?

I suspect the answer to Q1 is that the app doesn't do the same thing as the desktop site. I've heard of plenty of other differences. Even the m.imdb.com version isn't identical to the imdb.com version.

Q2: maybe nothing. See my speculation on Q1.

Creating a new conversation will do no good. They are fully aware of everything. They choose not to answer us, except to tell us how great the new look is.

Bderoes,

I suspect the answer to Q1 is that the app doesn't do the same thing as the desktop site.

Reply to your Q1's answer: I already know that lol. I asked, "why?"

I'll reply to your Q2's answer at the beginning of March. ('cause I do believe there's a difference or else why would they have a separate page for it?)

First, this is supposed to be the internet MOVIE data page. Yet there is more about TV than movies. Some TV is good, necessary, even, but come on!
Secondly, this change is too major a  shift from what everyone is used to. You might have pulled it off if you had changed a little bit here and a little bit there, over time... but no.

This is bad. Please change it back!!!

The television system has always been about the ability to relay, transmit, receive and display movies (changing pictures), though. The general topic of "movies" is not limited to cinema or the nickelodeon system.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Old homepage look.

Hi,

is there an option to choose the old familiar IMDB homepage look instead of this terrible, dreadful and annoying new one (believe me, I'm being easy)?

Thanks!

Obviously, the choice is not ours to make. It never was.
