The new page is boring

That's a new point that hasn't been mentioned before (I think), but I totally agree!

"IMDB is for information not video content catering to mobile users."

That's the issue in a single sentence.

I don't know if anyone remembers when Windows 8 came out. I never used it myself but I remember how everyone was complaining about the interface, saying the desktop had changed drastically, and it was very difficult to get used to, because people had already got used to a certain way of using their computer. Finally a Microsoft rep came up and said that from now on, even the desktop computers would resemble mobile devices, because that was where the market was going.

And their belief was that, people will complain and protest for a while, threaten to quit their product, but will eventually give in and get used to it. Which they did. Which is probably how it's going to be with imdb.

Take a deep breath and just take a step back, forget about this new homepage thing. What did the old-style homepage show when you first opened it? I hear you say "movies and news" but no.90 percent COMIC BOOK movies and comic book news was what it had been showing for years. I remember The Joker news and articles on the homepage for more than a month, to the point that it made me sick and made me hate the movie before even seeing it. Because whether we like it or not, movies is a business, and imdb is part of that business, and business goes wherever money pulls them: teenagers. Mobile users, comic book movie lovers.

As a couple of defenders of this new style of homepage have said: If we want information on Anthony Quinn or the filmography of Fritz Lang, it's still there, but we have to look for it a bit deeper. That stuff was never on the homepage, anyway. However, the homepage still served a purpose, and now that purpose is gone.

Plus, I really don't see the point of all this Amazon and Netflix type of crap being so forcefully, aggressively pushed everywhere. It really drives people away. Do they really need more advertisement? They're as popular as coca cola now. People may not know who their prime minister is, but they know about Amazon and Netflix and what they offer. Too much advertisement will backfire at some point. Hopefully. 

It seems to me the only time IMDb fixes something is when it isn't broke!

I am going to do this exact thing. I'll be quoting you on the first post of the thread so when people check this one out, they'll be more likely to come across this comment earlier rather than in the middle of the thread.

Perhaps disappointingly, those three URLs are only usable by signing into Amazon·Com. I've noticed that most large companies with a significant Web presence do not make their standard contact information obvious.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. You must be signed in to Amazon before you can contact Customer Service. Sorry about that!

Fred Adelman, 90% seemed like an underestimation at first and than I remembered there are virtually millions of registered users, so maybe it is actually an accurate estimate. 

That's because the entire homepage is nothing but a collection of paid ads.

That's similar to how it appears in one of the dated web browsers that I use. The fact that the scroll bars are visible provides an advantage over using the carousel-shifting buttons with chevron arrows in them. One of the replies by somebody else in this thread even made note of how easy it is to accidentally click one of the carousel items, due to the fact that the button will immediately disappear once either end of the item listing is reached but possibly before the person using it is no longer committed to the very act of clicking in the particular spot.

Believe me, IMDb knows all about our issues, but they've been ordered not to comment about them. That order is coming from Amazon!

As we know, Amazon is a publicly-traded company, but I wonder what things would be like if one third of IMDb's equity was common stock. The shareholders could probably get more information about plans and motives, concerning the site.

Yes. For that matter, it resembles the index pages or "browse" pages of YouTube, Netflix and Hulu, among others. Kind of groß, aye?

Yes, I see that too on desktop, even when I turn off my AdBlocker.

I see that only on a few pages.
