INTRODUCING: Updated IMDb.com homepage experience

The new homepage is designed to help IMDb customers find what to watch right now, tonight, or this weekend — and where to find the best movies and TV shows for them, whether in theaters, on TV, or across a variety of streaming services (including IMDb TV, Prime Video, HBO, Starz, Showtime, Acorn TV, and PBS). Customers will benefit from a new recommendation engine that leverages implicit and explicit behavior to offer relevant and timely suggestions.

Your new updated IMDB homepage is horrible!!! The original homepage was interesting in many categories for movies, tv and star interviews. The new page is boring and useless!

The new page is boring

That's a new point that hasn't been mentioned before (I think), but I totally agree!

I'm sure I'm echoing other comments here but the main page is an absolute disgrace.  IMDB is for information not video content catering to mobile users.  At least give IMDB users a CHOICE what homepage style to view.  It wasn't broke but it sure is broke now.  Ugly and hideous.  Even looks like a banner is missing from the top part of the page.  So unbelievably bad.  I'm being shoved Amazon Prime down my throat and I already have it but if anything this makes me think about canceling my prime membership and hope an alternative service arises without all the on demand video BS.

"IMDB is for information not video content catering to mobile users."

That's the issue in a single sentence.

I don't know if anyone remembers when Windows 8 came out. I never used it myself but I remember how everyone was complaining about the interface, saying the desktop had changed drastically, and it was very difficult to get used to, because people had already got used to a certain way of using their computer. Finally a Microsoft rep came up and said that from now on, even the desktop computers would resemble mobile devices, because that was where the market was going.

And their belief was that, people will complain and protest for a while, threaten to quit their product, but will eventually give in and get used to it. Which they did. Which is probably how it's going to be with imdb.

Take a deep breath and just take a step back, forget about this new homepage thing. What did the old-style homepage show when you first opened it? I hear you say "movies and news" but no.90 percent COMIC BOOK movies and comic book news was what it had been showing for years. I remember The Joker news and articles on the homepage for more than a month, to the point that it made me sick and made me hate the movie before even seeing it. Because whether we like it or not, movies is a business, and imdb is part of that business, and business goes wherever money pulls them: teenagers. Mobile users, comic book movie lovers.

As a couple of defenders of this new style of homepage have said: If we want information on Anthony Quinn or the filmography of Fritz Lang, it's still there, but we have to look for it a bit deeper. That stuff was never on the homepage, anyway. However, the homepage still served a purpose, and now that purpose is gone.

Plus, I really don't see the point of all this Amazon and Netflix type of crap being so forcefully, aggressively pushed everywhere. It really drives people away. Do they really need more advertisement? They're as popular as coca cola now. People may not know who their prime minister is, but they know about Amazon and Netflix and what they offer. Too much advertisement will backfire at some point. Hopefully.

I want a person with brain in his head to answer me why the homepage dosen't have a single poll and all I can see is photos of Julianne Moore and Ella Balinska. Why these actresses need to be in Editors' picks. Do you think anyone cares? If someone does care he can go to their profile page, why does they have to be in homepage? Once again you disrespect the pollmakers with your actions. Shame.

It seems to me the only time IMDb fixes something is when it isn't broke!

I decided to quit complaining here and take it to Amazon directly because all IMDb is interested in is fixing bugs, not rolling back the homepage. I would advise everyone head over to Amazon and threaten to quit Prime if they don't revert the home page back to its previous glory. Amazon does not want to lose "customers", which is what IMDb is now calling us. Pester Amazon customer service, even though they say they can't help you. Believe me, they can! There is strength in numbers, something that is lacking in these Get Satisfaction boards, mainly because 90% of IMDb users have no idea they exist. I mention it on the homepage of my website and I have gotten more emails in one day than there are responses on these boards, the majority of them telling me they will take it to Amazon.

I am going to do this exact thing. I'll be quoting you on the first post of the thread so when people check this one out, they'll be more likely to come across this comment earlier rather than in the middle of the thread.

Do you have an e-mail were we can contact Amazon?, I'll join you doing it.

Follow the IMDb Polls in Facebook and Twitter

Perhaps disappointingly, those three URLs are only usable by signing into Amazon·Com. I've noticed that most large companies with a significant Web presence do not make their standard contact information obvious.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. You must be signed in to Amazon before you can contact Customer Service. Sorry about that!

Fred Adelman, 90% seemed like an underestimation at first and than I remembered there are virtually millions of registered users, so maybe it is actually an accurate estimate.

My IMDb homepage on desktop is completely black, because uBlock Origin blocks every thumbnail and photo, thanks IMDb programmers, great job!

That's because the entire homepage is nothing but a collection of paid ads.

That's similar to how it appears in one of the dated web browsers that I use. The fact that the scroll bars are visible provides an advantage over using the carousel-shifting buttons with chevron arrows in them. One of the replies by somebody else in this thread even made note of how easy it is to accidentally click one of the carousel items, due to the fact that the button will immediately disappear once either end of the item listing is reached but possibly before the person using it is no longer committed to the very act of clicking in the particular spot.

Believe me, IMDb knows all about our issues, but they've been ordered not to comment about them. That order is coming from Amazon!

As we know, Amazon is a publicly-traded company, but I wonder what things would be like if one third of IMDb's equity was common stock. The shareholders could probably get more information about plans and motives, concerning the site.

Mr. Steve, can you inform us why the homepage dosen't have a single poll? Maybe it's hiding from us. Maybe the poll plays hide and seek and dosen't want to be found. Can you give us a straight answer about what are you guys doing?

Has anyone but me noticed that IMDb's new homepage looks nearly identical to Amazon Prime's Video homepage? It uses the same type side-scrolling with low-res images as IMDb does. This is no coincidence, folks, which is why you should take your complaints directly to Amazon and tell them that we were never "customers" on IMDb, we were "readers" and "users". IMDb is not a video streaming service!

Yes. For that matter, it resembles the index pages or "browse" pages of YouTube, Netflix and Hulu, among others. Kind of groß, aye?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Images on home page are of low quality on laptop browser.

Images on the home page are of very poor quality, grainy and hurt my eyes at times. When you click into a movie page, the image is fine and sharp quality. My iPhone app doesn't have the issue, so i'm guessing there's a setting somewhere that I'm missing?

This has ruined what IMDB was meant to be. You basically turned a superb information resource into a gossip magazine. I've been using IMDB pretty much daily for 20+ years, my frequency of use declined when you removed the message boards, and now this... poor form IMDB. Bye bye.

Anyone has this blank space at individual title/person desktop and mobile page? At the top of the desktop version is grey, bottom is white, on mobile, both top and bottom are white.

I don't see it anymore, seems they fixed it, but IMDb is unpredictable.

The new homepage is TERRIBLE. I can't find anything in the utter chaotic disaster that is the landing page. Coming soon doesn't even seem to be there anymore, and when it was there were like 3 thumbnails and no sense of timeline. I loved the old view with the Coming soon, Now in theaters lists on the right to make them easy to find.

This is utter garbage.

It's pretty darn awful. It might be ok for tablet/smartphone touchscreen view, but as a desktop experience it's just dreadful.
