Never quite understood people who do that on any platform. Except maybe Reddit: if you unlike your own comment you end up downvoted for a while and it took me some time to get that. :)

I'm lost, I didn't expect that kind of "maintenance".

And how are points calculated? Anyway, those points are ignoring 6 months of  my contributions (on another account) which is disappointing considering that this system seems to be used in order to implement a certain form of meritocracy

PS: I also noticed that my username changed without any notice.

"Problem with Reply in grey/gray boxes ? ?"

Oh yeah, sorry. Misunderstood your original post.

And yeah, it's gonna be tough for us, especially poll makers to update the old links to new in our pending poll-lists.

They said it was only a "maintenance." They changed the whole damn domain lol.

But I like the new design. Beautiful CSS coding. My only problem is that the posts, comments, and replies are taking too long to show up. It used to be instant in the old site. I hope they fix it.

@cinephile I remember that a few years ago, Get Satisfaction had "gamification" on its message boards, whereby a person would get points for, among other things, posting messages and responses and receiving "likes" for their messages. Then those points disappeared. Now it looks like they are back, but I can't find anywhere that the point-scoring system is explained.

How are the 1000 words calculated?  I spent a long time on my review.

I really think Marco's idea post did not come over in the conversion. I just scrolled through his Created Posts through Jan 2018, and did not find it.

Wild speculation: the length of the subject might have been a problem?

In case Marco finds this post, I also found the Advanced search feature on sprinklr, but you can only select yourself as an author. However, it's a good way to find Ideas that you've created:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/search?authors=bderoes&conversationType=POST&conversationTypes=IDEA&page=1&sortKey=RELEVANCE&sortOrder=DESC

(When I edit the url to replace my user id with Marco's, I get no results from the search. But maybe he can view his own Idea posts that are here.)

With the redesign of this site, I've noticed a couple of issues which I think should be fixed.

As indicated in the red oval, the headers are labeled as "Ques, Probl, Idea, Prais, Announ, Artic" instead of "Questions, Problems, Idea, Praise, Announcements, Articles". In fact, some of the last letters of these abbreviations are partially cut off, like the "a" in "Idea" and the "s" in "Prais".

Meanwhile, there is a large left margin to the left of the text. Why not make the column wider and reduce the left margin so that the words in the headers could be displayed in full?

Also, in the blue oval, the contributor who posted the topic is identified as "roy_k7aqttv48ox8z". But that's not their user name. As seen on the thread itself (https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/poll-suggestion-midnight-movies-after-the-heyday/5f4eaeec4833935f0917fd58), their user name is Hoekkie and that's how I assume they want to be identified.

And here's a third issue that should be fixed. Here on this message board, URLs are not automatically linked. They should be automatically linked without us having to specifically activate them. This is a key issue for those of us who help users with data issues. If someone writes, "There's an error on my name page at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0525910/. Can you help me?" then I ought to be able to click right on that URL and go to the page, which would require that the URLs on this message board automatically be active.

Nygma: I didn't know there was an issue with users having to edit their nicknames. My own nickname "gromit82" showed up here the first time I checked after the redesign.

As to the zoom issue, my own browser (Chrome) is set to 100%. I would have to reduce the zoom to 67% to see the headers in full. (My current screen resolution is 1024x768.)

Making links clickable is a simple matter of using the link icon before pasting the link. Obviously it would be better not to have to do that. But we gained the ability to paste IMAGES directly into the edit box, which is a big bonus.

bderoes: The point isn't that users can't make their URLs clickable; they can.

The point is that some users won't make their URLs clickable because they won't know how or they'll forget to do so. And that will be inconvenient for the contributors who are trying to help them.

The software here should assume that if someone enters a URL in their message such as https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/, then they want it to be clickable, and the software should automatically make it clickable.

Also, as Nygma points out, we've had the ability to paste images into our posts for a long time. I've done it many times, and so have other contributors.

I already agreed it would be better if URLs were automatically active.

I was a big user of pasting images into posts on GS, and would occasionally forget to use the image receptacle first. The only way I was able to paste an image into a post on GS was to click on the equivalent of , and paste into the box that opened. Since GS is dead and gone, there's no point to this paragraph.

gromit, I see this  under your name here. Did you cause that somehow?

Also, as someone else pointed out on another thread, we shouldn't be allowed to upvote our own posts.

I don't know if non-Champions are seeing this too, but nobody (except maybe Col Needham) should be allowed to give their own post a "Mark as Accepted Answer" designation.

Ah, so I got an email that said this thread "has an accepted solution". But I don't see it now. Frankly, I don't see where to make such a designation, unless it's "close conversation".

Is there a help page for this site?

Bderoes: I think that was me, designating my own answer as an Accepted Answer, but I un-designated it afterwards.

Next to the replies here, there are three vertical dots on each reply. Hovering over those dots, for my own replies, I see "Edit", "Delete", "Permalink", and "Mark as Accepted Answer". For my own second-level replies (I forget how Sprinklr designates them), I see only the first three options.

For anyone else's first-level replies, I see "Permalink", "Mark as Accepted Answer", and "Flag as Inappropriate". For anyone else's second-level replies, I see "Permalink" and "Flag as Inappropriate".

This is also a flaw, because someone could provide the solution to a problem just as well in a second-level reply here as in a first-level reply. Both kinds should be markable as Accepted Answers -- but only by the IMDb staff, not by contributors.

Why do have all things compatible to Smartphones / cellphones? I don't like that design. I hate it.

I didn't love it at IMDb and sure not on getsatisfaction. Please roll back! Changes are good, but

Hi there,

The "Related Conversations" panel on the right sidebar of a thread does not show any related conversations/threads.

It shows the last five latest conversations.

I hope this gets fixed soon.

Thank you in advance.

Since I already have three requests related to the redesign in another thread (see here), I'm bringing up some other issues in a new thread.

1. There are some old threads that I'm having trouble finding. In particular, I had one titled "Implementation of new genres" which had over 20 "likes" and which had been going on for several years because the underlying problem has not yet been addressed. It used to be found at https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/implementation_of_new_genres but now that's a "404 Not Found" page.

2. Also, when looking at my, or anyone else's, User Profile page, the past activities are not paginated. Compare this "paginated" view from the main forums search page:

where there are separate pages and one can choose to go from page to page, with this from the user profile page:

where you have to click "Load More..." to go back one page (10 items) at a time, no matter how far back you need to go. You can't even edit the URL to select an older page. It's just click "Load More..." over and over and over. (A few years ago, Get Satisfaction had a similar setup under the assumption that it was preferable for mobile users, but eventually they were persuaded that a paginated setup was best even for mobile users.)

Other posts have been reported missing over here:

[IMDB/GS STAFF] [IMPORTANT] Links from IMDb proper and elsewhere to GS threads are not redirecting

I agree that Load More is awful, especially in this context. I also find the level of detail is much too granular on that Activity page: I liked a post, I followed a post, I responded to a post. Argh.

Fortunately, I found that I can search my own posts pretty well on this site using the Advanced filters. AND, I can sort them pretty well too. For instance, to find that thread above:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/search?authors=bderoes&conversationType=RESPONSES&page=1&sortKey=RECENT

(I don't understand why I can just paste that and it becomes an active link, but the one above required the link pop-up creator.)

ACT_1: Yes, in the GS era before yesterday, the user profile pages were paginated as I prefer, but now they aren't.

Links to the old threads are broken, and I can't access the "Implementation of new genres" thread anymore.

With this new board I cannot sign in under my existing account.

I had used my google account as the sign in. It does get the reset password email, but the pwd will not reset. It gives an unclear error message that basically says it cannot be reset.

So is there any way to get the acct back?

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled so is getsatisfaction account lost?

Sorry to hear this. (I was used to signing in with Google too.)

But I was able to reset my password. (Annoying that it doesn't tell the requirements for the pwd until you've entered it twice.)

Can you request another reset and post a screenshot of the failure message?

Wow, not sure how this fits with what it was merged into. I was asking a very specific question about not being able to get my account whereas this is an overall issue with the change. Whoever merged this should be ashamed and forced to say how/why this is like the other because it isn't. I may not worry about getting my old acct back or maybe i'll change my mind but it's obvious i won't be getting any help.

To err is humanoid.

I think they swept up everything not directly related to imdb.com.

Then again, I was actually wondering if any staffer was following these threads when (not yours) got swept up here.

I would follow my suggestion above (request another reset), start a new thread, and include a screenshot of the failure message.

This may be a duplicate, but I posted a response to a thread that is now closed due to having been merged here. So I can't even see what I posted.

I was trying to report that I had just experienced great difficulty posting a response here.

It has 2 small screenshots, and when I tried to post it, sprinklr gave me a Failed message, and wiped out my work. I tried again, this time copying what I constructed, and it failed again. As did another attempt after I reloaded the page.

I then submitted the post without images. That worked.

I tried to Edit the post, but pasting the image directly into its place among the text Failed again.

Finally I tried to use the Image Button provided with the other editing options.

It would NOT accept a Paste of the image.

I had to SAVE the image to a file, and drag the file into the box.

This is MUCH worse that GS.

Hopefully that's just a glitch, and won't occur again. But I wanted to post this in case IMDb flipped a switch that caused this change. (I've been able to paste directly into the edit box in several prior posts.)

Redesign suggestions

Hi act_1

Well, I just had a great deal of difficulty pasting small screenshots into a reply.

I tried several times, even posted the text first to get my reply on the thread,

then edited to add the images. I reloaded the page, just in case.

And the only thing that worked was using the Image Button below, and THAT only takes FILES.

At least on GS I could paste directly into the box that the Image Button opened.

I sure hope THIS doesn't persist.

This is day 3, and for the 3rd day I've had difficulty creating a post where I pasted more than 1 image into the edit box, exactly as I described 2 days ago here (above):

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/introducing-updated-imdb-community-forums-experience/5f4a7cb08815453dba0f50df?commentId=5f5030b4bd255073501558cf

Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Fortunately, I've been alert enough to Copy the message before attempting to post it, but that's a miserable way to deal with a forum.

We are happy to introduce a new IMDb Community Forums site (accessible at: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/), which makes it easier to engage with and discover the content that means the most to you.

Just wondering: how, exactly, does this site make it easier to engage with and discover the content that means the most to me, compared to the former message board on Get Satisfaction?

It's always difficult for those experienced with the old site to adjust.

Heck, earlier today I asked for a Help page for this forum.

But the search engine here is superior to GS, if nothing else.

bderoes: How does the search engine work here? On the GS site, we could search for phrases by putting them in "quotation marks", and we could use the connector AND to find threads that contained two keywords.

I don't know how to do either of those functions on the search engine here, if indeed they exist.

gromit:

I don't think I knew about either of those options on the GS search engine.

Since the migration, I've been using the engine to look for my own posts, and found it far more useful than what I could do with GS. Just the fact that Author is one of the criteria is very helpful for me (but I'm the only Author to choose from, and modifying the URL hasn't worked yet.) Frankly, when I really wanted to search for something on GS, I'd go into the console, since that seemed to find better results for me. Or use google with site:imdb.gs.com, however that needed to be written.

I never felt that the GS search engine looked beyond the subject line; the sprinklr engine seems to do better at that.

Here we can restrict results by age of the response; I don't remember that on GS (but maybe I got so fed up with the GS search that I stopped looking at its options).

The options to restrict results to topics active in the last week, 30 days or 90 days are the same as before.

It would be helpful if this could be expanded with 1 year or a custom time frame.

The forum system vocabulary has shifted. That which was referred to as a "topic" is now known as a "post". Such is okay. (We often call it "thread" anyway.) However, almost confusingly, that which was referred to as a "reply" is now known as a "comment", and that which was referred to as a "comment" is now known as a "reply". I've noticed that, in this redesigned system, closed threads no longer display any of the responses originally made to it. Just like before, none of the stars or "likes" migrate with any of the migrated response messages to a thread.

@jeorj_euler

There is an inconsistency: "Topics" appears at the top of nearly every imdb.sprinklr page, and clicking on it leads to what are called Categories when you create a post. It would be helpful if staff could change that upper label to Categories.

Closed threads no longer displaying responses is a problem. Sometimes others can benefit from the discussion, and particularly the resolution to the thread. I already experienced being locked out of my own response because a thread was merged.

bderoes: Where are you seeing closed threads that don't display responses? Looking at the following threads:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/i-need-to-know/a-movie-about-brothel/5f4a7cb18815453dba0f6273

... both threads are closed, but the content is still visible.

I know that GS also distinguished between comments and replies. Not sure why...

gromit, merged threads are closed and don't show replies:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/so-is-getsatisfaction-account-lost/5f4fdab96880ca74b459e925

You can see that it DID have comments:

And they may be on the destination thread, or they may not.

I, personally, had a reply/comment yesterday that did not follow the merge, probably because the merge happened just after my response was accepted.

It was to this thread:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/redesign-suggestions/5f4f378072a09d3801368d5b

which landed in this very thread, here:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/introducing-updated-imdb-community-forums-experience/5f4a7cb08815453dba0f50df?commentId=5f5008d372a09d7522df9993

when I didn't see my own post, and could not access it because the original thread was closed, I reconstructed it here:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/introducing-updated-imdb-community-forums-experience/5f4a7cb08815453dba0f50df?commentId=5f5030b4bd255073501558cf

and Act_1 re-posted the original for me as a response, here:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdbcom/introducing-updated-imdb-community-forums-experience/5f4a7cb08815453dba0f50df?commentId=5f5030b4bd255073501558cf&replyId=5f503f6272a09d7522df9b51

The distinction, be it important or unimportant, pertains to functionality. One is nested inside the other and cannot have any other object likewise nested. Certainly there are grander problems to be concerned about, and many participants of the forum have already pointed out most of those problems.

I would like to see an improvement to these email settings:

So a "post" is something you create, aka the beginning of a thread, Might be useful to have this notification.

But comments and replies are things that I already get notifications about, if I've done something to follow the associated Post. Right now, if someone replies to my comment, and includes the @bderoes, then I get 2 emails for that response.

Is there some way this forum can be trained to send only 1 email per recipient per post/comment/reply? I mean, can IMDb admin tweak some setting on the forum to improve this? Especially with such nondescript email subject lines as we're getting now, I'm tempted to turn OFF 2 of these settings, which would prevent me from getting notified if someone tries to bring me INTO a thread I haven't followed.

Improving the email subject line would be terrific too. I care more about the subject of the thread than the generic action descriptions we're getting now.

BTW, I @'d myself in a response earlier, and never got an email, so it knows to screen OUT your own authoring.

Why is there an option to mark a comment as a solution in "Idea" threads?

Who needs a solution to an idea? I think it should be limited to "Problem" threads only.

Also, why are we allowed to mark our own comments as an accepted solution/answer?

Please shed some light on this. Thank you.

If we're talking formulations here, ideas absolutely might have solutions, although it's not a usual formulation, because usually idea's realisation needs a solution, rather than idea itself.

A bright man once said:

Every problem as a solution, thus every solution has a problem so if there is no problem there is no solution. Consequently, there is no problem if there is no solution.

This leads me to the point, that an idea doesn't have a solution.
