INTRODUCING: New navigation on the IMDb website!

We're excited to announce that on November 22, 2019, IMDb launched a new navigation experience across the mobile and desktop website. These changes provide an improved navigation experience to help you find something new to watch every day.

Select "Menu" to find the parts of the site you know and love, like top-rated movies, celebrity news, and IMDb Originals. There is also easy access to IMDb TV (where available), your Watchlist, your Activity page and account settings.

My name is Patrícia, with a accent. This new design doesn't read that character, so this is how my name is displayed at the top of the page: Patrícia
And I can't even edit it, because I can't find an option anywhere.
IMDb never changes for better.

Patrícia
I believe the Login and security options are where you can change the name displayed for your account.

Hi Patrícia —

We've fixed this bug. You should now be able to see your name correctly, with the accented í. Thank you for letting us know about it!

This is my first post here and I have to apologize in advance for the possible mistakes I may make, English is not my native language.
But I feel I have to write this, although wait - I'm really forced to write this, cause I'm a long time IMDB user, and since I want to continue using the site, this simply has gotten to the point where I'm frustrated enough to create a reply.
In case somebody from the team actually reads through this, I'll try to be brief and conchise.

1. Having big white letters from the new menu on the black background hurts the eyes of the people who have poor eyesight (me included), and will gradually diminish the eyesight for those who are fortunate enough to have healthy eyes now. It's really a terrible viewing experience, as people above this post has already said, and every optician in their right mind will confirm this.

2. Since we already got through having a poor eyesight, some people (again, me included) have to use zooming functions of the browser to read websites properly. Now as I learned from the posts above, the watchlist option has not dissapeared from everyone, it has dissaperead because I'm using the zoom apparently "too much".  This is actually the first time in history of my web browsing (and I do zoom a lot of other sites, believe me), that a part of the design completely disappears only because I zoomed something. Although I still can access watchlist from my profile, of course, but (again as people above has already stated) I do not understand why the search field so large absolutely must stay when zooming in and the watchlist must go.

3. Now we're getting to the best part, since we've already discussed not getting the same functions. On my new tablet version of the website there is a whole slew of weird omissions and even plain bugs abound.
For some reason I'm not getting the full menu functions on the tablet. The list of both upper dropdown menu sections and bottom ones I can go to is reduced in the tablet version.
For example - I used to visit "Release Calendar" section from my tablet. Now there is no option for "Calendar" in the dropdown menu "Movies" section, along with other useful links like "In Theaters" and "DVD & Blu-Ray Releases". I don't know how to reach it now, okay, this is completely uncalled for, but I recall that there was a link to the "Site Index" at the bottom, maybe I can go there from index? And guess what? In the new tablet version this link is missing too. Now if using my tablet I can reach the aforementioned sections of the website only by manually putting the "imdb.com/calendar" address in my bookmarks. Do you think this can be called an enjoyable site using experience, creating my own shortcuts to get through to certain sections?
I'm not even mentioning the very interesting question - was there any pratical reason for the tablet user to be deprived of certain sections which desktop user can freely go to?
And finally the outright bugs. Again, if using my tablet version, I get the 404 window every time I try to reach at least two sections from the upper dropdown menu - "Coming Soon" and "Release Calendar". Maybe there's more, I really don't have the urge to check them all. Both sections if linking from the "Site Index" redirect correctly. Basically, to ensure that everything works as it should be, I'm reduced to using the "Site Index" instead of new menus on my tablet now.
By the way, the same 404 thing happens if I'm trying to reach those sections not from my tablet, but on my desktop using the m.imdb.com mobile version. This is not a question of "empty your cache and cookies" problem, I have tried entering those sections from a new  anonymous browser session and even from a different browser alltogether - still get the same 404.

In conclusion, I cannot call this new IMDB browsing experince pleasureable in any sense imaginable.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled The new navigation system is a pain in the neck!.

I used to enjoy going to IMDb.  Now it no longer looks the same and you have to make multiple clicks to get where you want to go when one used to be sufficient.   Now I dread trying to use IMDb.  It's not fun.  It's a waste of time.  When will people learn that if it's not broken, any "improving" will only make it worse.  All the work you put in on this "new navigation experience" that you are so insanely proud of, was a waste of time.  And now it's wasting my time.  Your "new navigation experience" is a shipwreck.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled side by side - no search.

Contributing to IMDb frequently means needing to open a second window to find the proper name/title constant (or do other research). With the new toolbar design, where the search disappears when the window is "too narrow", we cannot open a second window and use the Windows dual-window (side-by-side) functionality.

Please improve the new display to continue displaying all the items on the top toolbar when the window is resized.

bderoes,

Thank you for bringing this up.

Poll authors frequently have to have two or more IMDb windows open at the same time to create their lists. It really helps to have all of the items displayed when a window is resized.

I liked the old style better.  At least it showed an exact number on my Watchlist, now it's rounded off to the nearest hundred (and it's off!).  If you guys could fix that little issue, I guess I could live with it.
Thanks,
Albert

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled So-called 'improved navigation experience'.

This isn't an 'improved navigation experience' - it's a totally unnecessary disaster.  Why can't we simply type in the title of the film we're interested in, just like we've always done?

Have you never heard the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?  Please put things back the way they were.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Problem with the new format.

the "more like this" section has changed and you can no longer click on the "next 6" and I cans see the words next 6 but if you actually click on it only one comes up. You can see just the very top tip of 3 of the next movies and if you carefully place curser on each one and click it will open just that one, why did they change it, used to be easy click on next 6 and the next 6 opened, also this is regardless of page zoom 120% of even 90%

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Why would IMDB do this on our laptop platform?.

I had no idea what was happening. For the last 2 days, I was suddenly unable to search for a movie title--on my computer, which is pretty much where and when I use the IMDB site. I had to start google searching for "what happened to search bar...." RIDICULOUS! I do not get it! Don't want it! Am beyond displeased! But I did read something that if you go to "full screen".... MORE ridiculous! Another step to go and undo!!

OK! I have resolved this--as I replied somewhere else on this run of responses to the "search bar" issue. I just widened the file and it reappeared. Strange, but an easy solution. But tonight, I'm seeing they have made the search bar more clearly visible--white!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled The redesign is a disaster. Can I go back to the previous version?.

New search bar placement is completely annoying, search for popular films comes up wrong, the entire interface makes no sense. If it ain’t broke...

Hello everyone —

My name is Sarah; I work at IMDb. Thanks for all the conversation (both positive and critical!) on the new navigation. We're reading all of it, and especially appreciate knowing how it doesn't work for you.

We've made two changes today to address some of your feedback:
  1. The background color of the search bar is white again. This should make it easier to see.
  2. The search bar and account menu are now visible at smaller screen widths -- we expect this will be particularly useful for contributors, poll-writers, and list-makers who are often in "dual-screen" mode.

We'll continue to monitor this thread — stay tuned for more changes coming soon.

Don't you know that white type on a black background is harmful to people with eye problems? You should turn back the clock an put it back to the way it was before this "new" look.

Also, why was my post about the poster section missing shut down to replies, with the statement "This conversation is no longer open for comments or replies."? Did I hit a nerve? If you are going to delete the poster section, don't be coy, come out and say it!

Thank you for your additional feedback, Fred.

Regarding the posters thread, please note that it was merged with this thread to correlate all feedback regarding the updated navigation. While the Latest Posters and Latest Stills pages are not listed in the Menu on IMDb, they are still accessible at this time via the direct links for each item. This feedback has been provided to the appropriate team.

Yeah, I heard the same thing two weeks ago. What good is a Google link? Why not put it directly on your site? You are also going to lose a lot of older viewers due to the white type on a black background search-bar. It is proven to cause eyestrain. Ask any optician. EDIT: Whoops! I see you have changed the search bar. My apologies.

Just EXCELLENT to read your thoughtful response and how IMDB addressed these issues! Awesome! Funny, I discovered the "white" bar just in the midst of writing my update. I was double checking myself and that white bar smacked me right in the face! I was actually ok with widening the page--but this is even better!

I was looking for alternatives to IMDB because I just found searching too difficult - my search was at the top of the page but very very dark and the bar was impossible to see - and then, today, I opened the site and it was almost back to normal!!  Hoorah and thank you.

Middle button click (open in new tab) not works on search section in new design: I search a lot of movies. In previous design, in search box, I could wrote a name of movie and with middle button mouse click (scroller click) open the results in new tab. In new design this function is not working anymore and it is extremely annoying.

I am not having trouble navigating, but none if the videos will play. I just get a page with a black box where the video should be. It shows the titles and the posters and links back to the main page but no video. I hope you fix this great improvement soon.....maybe go back tot he way that worked., make everyone happy.

I really (viscerally) hate this new default full-screen video player you've just switched to using.  (I'm finding it so frustrating, I'm sadly, reluctantly beginning to search for a different site to look up titles and names.)  Please, is there any way I can go back to the viewer with the smaller image and the side panel of additional videos to see?
