Follow other users and be notified of their ratings and other activities on IMDb

If we just can add our friends like facebook and share our movies and ratings together I think it would be more fun and useful :) And also we can compare our rating history and that would be very good for users :)

Is there a way for IMDb members to be able to follow other IMDb members? Like, I am looking for a way to have my friends know what I have seen and for myself to see what they are watching too. If this isn’t a feature, I highly recommend it as there isn’t really a place that can offer this.

I don't care about connecting IMDB to FB or to RL friends.  IMDB is about movies, and I want to read the reviews of people who previously wrote good reviews.  This is not the criterion by which I choose my friends.

I like this idea. But I do not use Facebook. Rather I would like if you added a "nearby" users feature. So we can find how many users local to us that liked as many movies as I have.  Could be a great conversation starter.

Is there currently a way to see or follow other users IMDB accounts? I would love a feature to be able to follow my friends & family and see what they've been watching as well as what they've rated it.

This is what I want. Apparently what people have been wanting for the better part of a decade. And the only thing done? Deleted message boards.

Seven years and still nothing? Why is it s difficult? Myanimelist website hasn't your fancy design but has managed to implement this feature perfectly! Have a look and add the same feature here pls!
Imdb is the most famous website to keep track of your watched movies and it can't miss this feature

Company got too big and lazy, I guess. Classic story..

How can they not implement this feature to the site, I cannot understand. As a film lover I'd like to see what my friends are watching, and if there is a person who doesn't want it, then don't add any friend! I think that it is not compulsory to connect with fb or any social media, user names are enough.

That may depend upon which "they" we mean. Maybe with enough resources and trust, anything is possible.

IMDB isn't Facebook, I don't want it to become like a social media.

This is a great idea, exactly what I want from the site.

Does anyone know, if I can't find these features here where can I find them?

Hi Dusty Bender,

This is a very popular idea (suggestion). This was suggested 7 years ago. So far IMDb has not implemented this idea.

I have found several similar suggestions. It's pretty disappointing that nothing has become of it. Seems like a very popular idea. I wonder if another site will come along with that feature.

Letterboxd has pretty much done exactly what we've been asking for and created a website where we can look up information about films and rate them, with a whole lot of other social features. It's insane to me why IMDb hasn't down this as we've been asking 8 years for it.

I will definitely check it out. Thanks for letting me know.

I think Jeff Bezos himself should do something :| . IMDB Staffs won't listen to us obviously.

Pretty disappointing. How do we contact Jeff? Haha

1. IMDb already provides us a perfect way to compare ratings between accounts but this feature seems to be a whole lot harder to actually do.

If I am not mistaken you need to be first signed in to IMDb and then get the other persons url adress to their IMDb account to compare and discuss ratings between each other. My url follows: https://www.imdb.com/user/ur83615375/?ref_=_usr

Note that you can’t search for IMDb accounts on Advanced Search

2. Just imagine for a second that you could skip all the copy paste IMDb-url accounts from discord etc and instead search for specifik usernames through the Advanced Search system by clicking for example "IMDb user" and then search for their username.

3. Only this would be a whole lot of more fun as pointed out in paragraph 2 but now I would like to present the "dream scenario"

Imagine if you could befriend folks on IMDb and follow their ratings, reviews and so on.

IMDb´s opportunities when it comes to staying on the site and arguing about cinema, actors and what to watch provides a whole new level to the website. I am not suggesting that you should be able to chat on the site, just be closer to my friends recently watched movies and so on.

@ACT_1

But still, almost the same time wasting trouble to search for:

site:IMDb.com EdwardHedelius

That´s not the main idea to my topic but thanks for another url to use:)

And why do I get merged into a conversation that started 2013 and last response was from 2019.

My idea is on a doable level and this thread just seems like mashed potatoes.

@ACT_1

Amazing, I dedicated so much time and sweat to get my movie interested friends to start rating on IMDb so we can discuss movies. I heard that "Letterboxd" provides what I were suggesting to this company on my freetime but got merged to some old thread from the dinosaur-era as that would do anything. So will probably migrate to "Letterboxd" and never revisit IMDb after five years

Cheers

Talk about OG, I mean your profile talks for itself, want to message about my horrible reviews or maybe give me a movie tip?

I mean I am truly amazed by your interest in my favorite hobby so what about you give me a 1900´s movie and I provide you with a 2000´s movie that I think you will like, I am currently studying cinematography so would be a fun exchange

@edwardhedelius1 There's a bit of a club here amazed with ACT_1. I was honestly suspecting they are a bot way more than I will be comfortable to admit. Turns out that this precision indeed comes from a living human being.

It puts my memory and data collation skills to shame and I'm a PhD who is routinely nicknamed "Wikipedia". :)

I've been parsing ACT's uniquely-formatted messages since before the IMDb site-native BBS was retired. This individual is definitely a real human being. I was a bit saddened by the way ACT was required or at the very least pressured into changing the profile picture so as not to include the name "IMDb" in it. For years nobody complained about it, until just a few years ago, right here on the community forum, either on Get Satisfaction or Sprinklr. The concern raised was that newcomers might mistake ACT for an employee of IMDb.
