In Progress

Filter for actors are gone

On the previous IMDb design, I was enjoying a great feature everyday and is super important to me.

I could filter any actor based on many criteria, say like: Show the movies I watched for him/her or his/her movies as a director and such.

In the new layout, I seem to fail to find it, or God forbid it was removed for unknown reasons (this usually happens with every IMDb UI update.......)

Anyone?

I'm not aware of a recent change to name pages. Maybe you have accidentally switched to a mobile interface?

In the desktop page you can choose one of the alternative filmography options.

This is the old layout. I guess they are migrating gradually.

Check this one out:

https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0000703/?ref_=tt_cl_i_3

That is the mobile site. It is not new. Try clicking View Full Site at the bottom.

I don't see the View Full Site link at the bottom of the mobile page anymore.

@peter_pbn When I open the link from the PC (from the full site version) it opens automatically in the mobile version!

Hi, Peter and bderoes. If the width of your viewing window is at least 1,024 pixels, then the "View Full Site" hyperlink will be hidden from you, per a rule implemented at Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) definition digest https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41a4wekJPPL.css for Document Object Model (DOM) query ".VUGIPjGgHtzvbHiU19iTQ .X17C45Q1MH_7XboLL_EEG". I don't know why the IMDb developers would do this, since it could create confusion among people who visit the mobile-friendly rendition of the IMDb website.

I am using just my PC, why would it transfer me to a mobile version when I open a new tab? This is very confusing.

I mean I can do it manually by editing the link, but I want to be automatic, I open sometimes hundreds of tabs, imagine the work I will have to do.

Hi, argman. You have to understand that https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0000703/ is different from https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000703/. See?

@jeorj_euler This is exactly what I said.

When on, say, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120762/?mode=desktop&rtm=1&rtm_sr=1

and I open BD Wong in a new tab, this opens "automatically":

https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0000703/

Then I will have to manually alter it to:

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000703/

I DON'T want that to happen, and it -naturally- must not happen, since I am on my PC.

You need to scrub that title url of all rtm parameters.

Don't know what it stands for, but they are the cause of this problem (getting mobile version of Name page), and other grief.

I see now, as I'm able to reproduce the effect in a private browsing session, and so I'm wondering what the hell is going on, but I do believe it may have something to with the difference between navigating from https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120762/ and navigating from https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120762/?mode=desktop&rtm=1&rtm_sr=1, the corresponding which will show up in the "Referer" header of the HTTP metadata of the connection for the next Web destination when a hyperlink in the particular title page is clicked. Maybe that is the issue, but it may only be a part, since the matter of cookies to be considered.

It would seem that bderoes confirmed my previous remarks (except for the bit about the Web cookies), in the time between me loading the thread and posting, the time before now. Hopefully the cookies, session storage data and local storage data do not factor into this, as it may be difficult to properly change the values of cookie parameters.

Thanks everyone for these detailed reports. The buggy redirection between desktop and mobile is something we're working on fixing.

Hi Sarah.

The effect now is contrary, it is getting way worse, almost every page i open opens in a mobile UI; very annoying and time consuming to rearrange each URL with every visit.

They used to have an option where you could filter for movies and TV programs which featured two actors/actresses working together. For example, you could search for all Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movies. But, as is usual for websites, they "UPGRADED" (code word for ruined) the site and deleted that feature.

They did not delete that feature.

Under Advanced Search (atop nearly every desktop page, in the dropdown for the Search box), it's called Collaboration.

On  a name page, open the Explore More link on the top of the right column, and it's called Credited With.

Long ago it was called "joint venture". Ha.
