Why is the Dallas TV series no longer free? I have Amazon Prime and it was free last night... now there is a fee

I have been watching Dallas (the one that started in 1978) for free with IMDB tv app through my Amazon prime and fire stick.  In the middle of season 7. Last night it was free. This morning I wake up to find that it is now not free and I am to pay. Not acceptable. Free is free.  When (other than literally last night) did this change and why?

Hi - I'm sorry for the abrupt change in our catalog.

The selection of titles included with IMDb TV is always changing, though we're constantly working to improve our catalog to ensure that customers have access to the best selection of movies and TV shows possible.

You can visit IMDb TV  to review the catalog and current movie and television series offerings.

That answer is not acceptable. Free means free, as others have stated.

You state that the titles included with IMDb TV is always changing... well then how about CHANGING IT BACK to have Dallas be free like it had been?   Why can't that be done?  Read through the replies here. People are very upset to be cut off and left hanging. We WON'T pay for something that was free.  That is your slogan: "always fun, always free" and if we are paying for Amazon prime and its free then RESTORE THE PROGRAMS so that we can get what we are paying for with our prime membership.

Also as some one else said, at minimum, give people a warning that the program list is going to be changing AND a time frame for when it will be back.

Just do not understand the logic behind charging for something that was free. BRING BACK DALLAS FOR FREE PLEASE!

Have had any success? My wife and I are on season 4 and we’re not given any warning of this change. We have been watching since our honeymoon last October and it’s been a special part of life our together time. We have had a Prime Membership and have no problems watching adds.   IMDb should restore the free Dallas with ads so our experience  will continue to be “fun and always free”.  We are not going to be watching and more IMDb programs until this matter is resolved. This lack of response from IMDb is appalling and discouraging. So many people affected negatively by risk capricious and unnecessary change.

Nothing, but I just copied the link from this forum and sent it to IMBD TV on Twitter. Maybe that will help.

IMDb TV is free to stream. However as noted above, the selection/catalog of titles included with IMDb TV is always changing. Though Movies and TV shows are added to IMDb TV, occasionally titles are removed.

Yes you said that before. Got it. I asked in response, why not CHANGE IT BACK? Bring it back. Not too hard. People here are very upset that Dallas was removed from the free line up WITHOUT NOTICE. How is that not obvious?  Someone has the power to change it from free to paid.... the same person can change it back so why wouldn't they? That is the answer no one wants to share.     Also why couldn't we have received notice of a change?

What does IMDB TV GAIN from removing the program?  Seems that from what is showing up here, they are only LOSING viewers, and gaining angry viewers who will now not stream IMDB TV.

They probably had a set contract on how long they were allowed the rights to provide it to viewers like the retro TV networks to which is why older shows have cycles there too. It's not as simple as just "changing it back".

Well it sure seems simple enough to pull the plug on it, is my point. Also as far as older shows... I am shocked at the number of old shows that there is a fee for to watch.  I have looked up so many series from the 70's and 80s: Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, Dukes of Hazzard, Gilligans Island, Fantasy Island... none of them are free. Makes me wonder how many people do choose to pay.

@Taylor It's fine to remove them but make an announcement just like Netflix, Hulu, and Roku do. Had I known in advance, I could have prepared for it. This is my summer break from teaching and I had planned to watch Dallas!

Shows come and go on these streaming services. The length of time IMDB TV/Amazon had to offer it for free must have expired at the beginning of July.

@LadyLissa2011 EXACTLY! Its says free with ads for Amazon Prime members. I want to know who to bring this matter to.

That is why I got on here... I see no other means of contacting them since there is no phone number or listing for customer support.  It looks like someone labeled as an employee came on and replied but their answer is not acceptable.  Wish I knew how to escalate this.

@MsChris1221 They did not pull the plug, there was always a set cutoff date. All these streaming deals have them. You cannot change that date just like that, they pay for a set period for the rights. No point in complaining, because you cannot change it. And it is a free service separate from Prime, so one does not effect the other. Anyone can use IMDB TV for free, it is not a Prime specific benefit. When using a free service, just be happy you get a selection of content to watch, and if you love the show bad enough buy the DVDs. Otherwise, get used to the changing of content that constantly occurs on streaming platforms, because that is how these platforms work.

Never saw anything about a cut off date. Clearly there was one, but not helpful to anyone that its unannounced. Honestly I am really not getting a lot of free content. That's been a disappointment for sure. Nearly everything that I have looked for that I am interested in, has a charge.

@movieMan_43920 Corrections...

*affect

*anyone in the USA can use IMDB TV

I'm a Brit so I constantly have 1000's of new and old shows free on BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play, S4C Clic etc

Along with random websites like Rakuten TV which I stumbled across earlier this year when trying to find a production so I could check it's credits, however it's not available in the USA, and neither are the 6 British VOD's listed above.

The best you guys have in the USA for British classics new and old are BritBox or Acorn TV, (along with PBS Masterpiece which has slightly more BBC shows as they're shorter, whereas ITV shows are longer and more successful).

If I had a choice of the two I'd pick BritBox over Acorn TV as...

BritBox is owned by BBC Studios and ITV so contains mainly successful BBC and ITV shows, with a few Channel 4 shows thrown in.

Whereas...

Acorn TV is a bit like UKTV Play full of BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, S4C, Sky, RTE, Virgin Media, TG4 etc shows, along with shows from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and maybe South Africa too. In other words they get shows from the biggest English speaking countries whether they're good shows or not.

@movieMan_43920 This might be true, but they should do like I just saw on Netflix where it said the movie would be available until July 31.  At least that would give us time to watch select episodes.

@daniel_francis_gardecki sorry about using the wrong version of the word, I wrote it rather hastily and did not check it. I also have no idea the streaming potential of other countries, as I have never tried in other countries. But, I am not sure why you are telling me about British media streaming sources. Personally, I watch 2 British shows, both of which I own a box set of so I do not need to stream them.

@barbinva46 I do not disagree with you at all. I think all streaming sources should do that, but this one did not. I was disappointed, because I was only halfway through season 8. However, this happens all the time. We are not entitled to a free version of Dallas, so just be glad we had it as long as we did, hope they bring it back again, and hopefully they will begin putting "expiration" dates for these shows.

@movieMan_43920 I'm telling you because you said...

"Anyone can use IMDB TV"

Yet they can't unless they're in the USA.

I then listed some free British TV services to show that Brits like me (who have the sense not to give money to credit stealing companies like Netflix) have 1000's of films and TV shows to watch anyway, so I'm not really bothered about the fact that it's not available in the UK.

Still there's people like my parents who still watch repeats of old shows they've seen before but have forgotten about, on channels like ITV3, ITV4, Drama, Yesterday etc even though I've shown them multiple times how easy it is to use the 6 main free VOD services, which contain 1000s of shows they haven't seen.

All they need are the 6 buttons: up, down, left, right, ok, and back, yet they still find that difficult, so they don't bother.

As of July 1 2021, the original Dallas TV series is no longer available on IMDB.  Why is this?

@Col_Needham I don't have IMDB TV, but do the shows have expiry dates?

If not then they should, as at least then people would have a warning of when a currently free show was going to be removed or would start changing a fee.

I also find this very unfair. I got to season 4, eps. 20, now it says I have to pay.  This is very wrong and not good customer service.  If something starts out free, it should remain that way....or there should be a notice up front that it will  become a pay per view at some point in time.  That way, we would have a choice as to whether we want to start watching something that eventually will cost money.  Personally, I won't pay.  I am very disappointed in this and I will also send a complaint to Amazon since it is an Amazon company.

Indeed.  While I absolutely appreciate the free content IMDB provides, most streaming services what current content is leaving the service, and what new content is arriving.

I posted earlier, a website that plays Dallas. DO NOT USE IT!!! It put spyware on my computer. I don't know alot about computers, but I would not recommend going to this site. So sorry for first post.

I wish that IMDB would put Dallas back on and for FREE!!!
