Poll Suggestion: Saddest Child Death from the Top 250

Because the death of a child can be too upsetting an experience, it's handled carefully by many directors, but others don't hesitate to give the death its full treatment and succeed in providing one of their film's emotional or scary highlight.

Which of these Top 250 movies features the most upsetting child death?

Frankenstein isn't in the IMDb Top 250.

Ok. But the history of it was well known. The child’s death was filmed. But when the film was pre-viewed to an audience, the audience got so upset, it was cut out of the finial film. The film as it remains today, shows the monster meeting the child, and then the next scene shows the father carrying the child’s lifeless body into town thus leaving the audience to imagine what had happened.
Here is how it was originally was filmed. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MA9opHs...

These are all pretty old movies. Can you please put a brief description of what character died in their respective movie's text box (for a brief refresher)? I don't think spoilers should be a problem here.

In “Once Upon A time In The West” after Frank tried to be freindly to the kid, he smiles and shoots the kid.

Lol, I just had everything removed before posting the list, the way I figured it there was no need to mention the characters, if you saw the film, you know who dies, if you didn't, there's no need for you to know (it's enough a spoiler to know that a kid dies).
But do we really need to remember which child died in "jaws"?

Actually, I should have said all of the McBane’s kids because I think how the eldest daughter dies is just as sad and shocking as the youngest child. I do feel something also when she dies too.

The newest film is 16 years old. Many people haven't seen some of these films since they came out. A little refresher from movies seen decades ago? It seems like a nice gesture. Just asking for a small favor. It's a mere 13 titles (and very likely will not expand very far beyond that given your very reasonable parameters [Top 250 IMDb list of films].

"if you saw the film, you know who dies"
Do you remember EVERYTHING in every film you've watched? Not me.

"But do we really need to remember which child died in "jaws"?"
Don't several kids die in Jaws? Which one are you referring to? Some people consider teenagers as children (for example).

No, not teenagers, only children, teens tend to die a lot more in movies...
Anyway, I'll figure a way to tell without spoiling ;)

Very much appreciated. You are very gracious Sir ElMo.

BTW: You didn't see those weapons. I have no weapons. I don't have any licenses for any stinking weapons. Why are you going on and on about weapons?

Out of 250, there are only 13?

I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad.

Yeah. The lowest rating on it is 8.0. Otherwise, I would have the 7.5 rated “A Quite Place”. The child with the noisy toy dies.

Can it be expressed in a less "spoily" way... like "The one who...."?

"The one with the backpack"

FYC:

Capernaum (2018)

The main character's 11 year old sister who was married to a man three times of her age and died due to complications from adolescent pregnancy at such a young pubescent age. I dont know how to phrase it without spoiling.

PS: You can also add Leo's three kids from Shutter Island who drowned.

Do we see Leo's kids deaths on screen?

And to answer your question, yes we do see their deaths.

Actually you wanna correct that , the children were murdered and then their bodies were dumped in the lake. You could change it to, " Those who were found in the waters/lake" or something like that. Sorry for the misinformation, it has been a long time since I last watched that film.

If the death must be on screen I don't think Capernaum qualifies.

Mmmmm... either we see the child dying or we see him/her alive and then later dead... or we see the kid dead and a flashback shows him alive, does that cover everything?

120 Messages

 •

Hmm, then I dont think Capernaum qualifies. We see the girl alive and later her death is mentioned.

You could change the caption to In Schindler’s list to “The little girl in the red coat.” It wouldn’t spoil anything because you know or expect she was going to get killed.

Mmmm, I think any mention of "red" would give a solid hint to a first-time viewer (that goes for my wording, too) so maybe "the little girl" would say enough without spoiling much.

Genuinely curious and in need of a slight reminder (since it's been decades - one time watching it then done... as I can't remember rewatching it). No memory in how much she's involved with the literal plot of the film.

Do we ever get any real scenes with the little girl in the red coat where we learn anything about her? Does she interact with other characters? Or is she just a pretty red flower AKA a very depressing symbol and nothing else?

Apparently, the actress hated being in the film afterwards. Claims "it ruined my life."
I was the girl in the red coat in Schindler's List... and it ruined my life: Trauma of girl who became holocaust icon
