Poll Suggestion: AFI's Oscar-Nominated (but Non-Winning) Heroes

In your opinion, which of these Oscar-nominated performances as a villain from the American Film Institute's Top 50 (ranked in order) should have won?

My vote goes to Obi-Wan. May the Force be with this poll

rick blaine...tom joad...george bailey...what a tremendous list...great poll as well...and a lot more intricate than the obvious...

taking into account who they were up against (and who won), someone like stallone as rocky balboa was great, but up against peter finch in network, well...no question...peter should have definitely won...whereas...meryl streep in silkwood lost out to shirley maclaine for terms of endearment...between the two, meryl should have taken it home (but between all five nominees, jane alexander deserved it most for 'testament'...)

so...my eventual winner is...james stewart for 'mr. smith goes to washington'...a clear and definite choice...

I like your reasoning and that's precisely why I mentioned the other nominees, same goes with today's villain poll, I was wondering was Bickle wasn't higher (well at least in the beginning) given how popular he was, but he had a tougher competition than Michael Corleone.

It takes more homework to get all the nominees but ti's worth it for the sake of the poll, that said, I handle the Oscars' list so many times I know many line-ups by memory lol

By the way, can any of the Champs (Peter or Dan) correct the typo in the question, I was too hasty in the copy-pasting, I forgot to change the word 'villain'.

Thanks!

Whatever "should have won" means, I'd vote that T. E. Lawrence is my favorite performance here. Him or Obi-Wan. I can't decide, darn it. Poop.
