[Poll] Nominations for the Worst Movie of All Time (Round 1)

I am currently attempting to compile a list of some of the worst movies of all time. So now's your chance to help me out and get in on the action :)

The current list is here: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls042839302/
(It starts empty)

Please provide what you believe to be the worst movie you have ever seen, and I will add it to the list, subject to the following submission guidelines:

1. The title must be a film
2. The title must not be a short (requires 45+ minutes runtime)
3. Please provide a reason for why you believe it deserves a nomination
4. Nominations can be independent of overall IMDB ratings - just because a movie is rated low or high overall does not mean you cannot nominate it.
5. Please limit your nominations to a maximum of 3 titles.

Once I've allowed sufficient time for people to make their suggestions I'll create a further poll (i.e. Round 2) whereby you'll be asked to vote from the list to narrow it down. After that, depending on the amount of titles, additional rounds (and corresponding lists) may be added until we can pinpoint the ultimate worst movie ever made.

Have fun :D

My nominee is The Weird World of LSD (1967)

Not only is a film with the lowest imaginable production values, with no one that has the right to be called an actor or even something remotely similar to a plot. It is also an offensive film that tries to keep people away from LSD, but does this with lies, missinformation and fear which is pretty much the worst way to tackle a problem.

Added and credit. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I haven't seen The Weird World of LSD in its entirety but I have seen bits and pieces of it - to me its nothing more than a propaganda film - and that is usually an umbrella term for categorically bad films - not just because of the quality but because of the content.

As you suggest misinformation and fear are devices of control but are not rational solutions to real world problems.

Richard,
So sorry to keep switching things around, but I must replace replica with the Star Wars Holiday Special.  :)

I've amended the list to match your above replacement request.

It's not a problem to switch things around/change your mind at this stage - that's part of the idea of having multiple rounds to the nominations. Nothing is locked in at the moment, but later, in future rounds things will be more tight - but don't worry, there'll be ample time and notifications before that happens - so feel free to keep revising your suggestions as often as you like until then. :)

Okay, thank you!  I will Replica in round 2.  :)

Sounds good to me.

FYI: Exactly when Round 2 opens (following this rounds closure) will be entirely dependent on the level of activity of this round. In other words, when people seem to have stopped nominating/discussing for a few days I'll post a notice saying this round will end in a few days after that - allowing for those sitting on the fence to still have a chance.

I realize some people might only check in to GS once a week (or less) so I want the majority of the community to be exposed to the opportunity to nominate - but at some point the time will come where we must move on. :)

I appreciate your suggestion and will take it into consideration.

At this point in time, as of Round 1 of the nominations - the element of overall rating on IMDB is independent of this list - that's part of the theme behind it - because of this, currently, the list order will just be in the order I receive the nominations.

Ratings may come into play in later rounds, such as in tie-breaker scenarios, more will become clear in the future when I announce Round 2.

For readability purposes however, I think your suggestion may be warranted, and I may reorder the list in the near future. For the immediate time however things will not be changed.

Your feedback is still greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing more from you, and anyone else :)

I'm still weighing up my options on my own nominations here. There are a lot of bad movies out there, so many come to mind. I have a few I'm tossing around in my head and when I've decided on the three I'll add them to the list and announce it here. In the meantime - keep those suggestions rolling in! :)

Richard,
I forgot to let you know that you can watch RiffTraxes for free on Shout! Factory: http://www.shoutfactorytv.com/series/rifftrax
And there's some on Amazon Prime (you can sign for a 30 day free trial of that if you don't have it already)

Oh tyvm! I'll check that out :)

I'm a prime member but I'm in Australia so some of the content available is different for me, for example I can't watch IMDB's Freedive - but I'll check, thanks for the link :D

I'll be back with my nominations. This is my wheelhouse. Terrible movies that make you eyes weep clotted blood and your soul begs you to self-extinguish into sweet sweet oblivion so you will never again experience such horrid filmmaking.

Tsar knows bad movies because he knows RiffTrax (or vice versa!)!  :D  Not claiming to be an expert, but I know, too!  Who can answer the following questions: (excluding Tsar, because he probably knows)

The film Monster Dog is from what year?

Who is the famous star in it?

Also in it is actor Emilio Linder, who was also in what classic MST3K film?

Bonus: The MST3K film is known best the title credited in the movie, but what is the film's "other" title?

just a suggestion, but if you only included movies with a star rating under 4, it may be more apt for "worst movie of all time," heck maybe even only ratings under 3 stars!

But it's about the users' opinions. If one of has reasons to think that The Shawshank Redemption is the worst movie, so be it.

Yes, that's the way I took it... I came close to suggesting Aquaman!  :D

I do appreciate the idea but yeah as Albstein said this poll is designed to be independent of IMDB ratings - they may come into play in later rounds if we need a tie-breaker or something, but for now, even something like The GodFather could appear on this list if someone thinks it should do so.

Now, you lost me...

It's one thing to think the film isn't what it's all cracked up to be, or to think it's a manipulative film that glorifies the mob, let's even say, it's one thing to think that it's a bad movie, but the worst of all time? Even the most hardcore haters would concede a few good things about it... but I guess you were just making a point, but please don't spoil a good idea with the inclusion of a good film. There has to be objective element to validate the film's status as a bad movie, it takes a bad movie to be one of the worst, doesn't it?

This example was intentionally extreme, generally yes I'd like a pretty detailed explanation as to why someone nominated something like this film. This initial list is tentative and is there to serve the basis of the next round, which will allow people to vote on films already in the list - so in that regard even if someone did nominate an amazing film I feel it would be easily knocked out in later rounds.

Hope that clarifies things a bit. :)

Sometimes I just forget that the fact that The Godfather is taken for such extreme examples speaks for itself :) Out of all the movies, it had to be that one Peter Griffin didn't care about after all

I think by now most of the IMDB-GS community has had a chance to be exposed to the existence of this poll. I myself will be nominating my own entries over the next day or two. After that I'll be giving notice of the closure of nominations and subsequently the opening of round 2. Dates are still TBA but will be relatively soon, so if you are sitting on the fence now is the time to act :)

I really want to suggest Nukie (1987) but I've only seen clips and ... to keep myself sane in my pursuit of creating this list of three? I will self-impose the restriction where if I haven't seen the whole film, it will be disqualified....

Keep in mind,  ALL of the worst movies are birthed from the Swamp of Sadness (via the Neverending Story). So, at a quantum mechanics level? It's impossible to generate a list of only three of the worst movies of all time. So? I decided to take the lazy meandering route and randomly spit out some cancerously bad films not already listed.
1. To Catch a Yeti (TV Movie 1995): Meat Loaf. That should be enough to qualify this entry. The Yeti in question is a furbyesque 2 foot tall puppet. Just terrible acting, script, and production design.
2. A Talking Cat!?! (2013) Pretentious and (de)moralizing.
3. Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny (1972): A Christmas movie for kids on a diet of acid and black tar heroin. Santa gets his bloody sled stuck in a sand of a beach. A wanky Easteresque rabbit and hippy kids are there to save the day.

Dishonorable mentions to...
Fun in Balloon Land
Rollergator (1996)

Personally, I have to disqualify any Neil Breen film as I've only seen clips and reviews. He is this century's Ed Wood. But with so sooo sooo sooo much more painful pretentiousness. Someone has to have nominated at least Fateful Findings.

Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny one of the movies even Rifftrax couldn't make enjoyable.

I've seen Nukie (1987) in its entirety in late childhood/early teens. Never thought of it as a particularly bad movie as a) I've seen worse and b) derivation is not exactly a great thing, but it's not even the most derivative of the E.T. clone bunch.

It's incredibly forgettable, though.

Every Worst Movie list is not complete without the mention of:

Dragonball Evolution (2009)

and I will also nominate Movie 43 (2013)

Thanks for nominating those 2, I've added them to the list and credited you for your nominations. Would you like to tell us why you've chosen those 2 in particular? (It's not compulsory but I find it interesting hearing peoples views).

Thanks again :)

For Dragonball, I would say this single movie changed my standard for watching movies forever. I never really had a high standard in movie quality up to that point as I remember saying one of my favorite movies was I, Robot (2004). But after watching the terrible special effects, writing, set design, acting (for the most part), adaption of source material and many more; I needed to cleanse my retinas. Really started watching more classic movies because of that utter mess.

Movie 43 is just the perfect example of star power meaning nothing without decent writing.

Thanks for the explanation :) - I have a similar experience as far as standards go, mine evolved after I started to write reviews - the more I wrote the more critical I became and the more 'badness' I noticed. Before then I mostly loved everything (and hated a couple of things), now I feel I have a much wider range of evaluation levels for films, but I consequently am also more harshly opinionated than I used to be.
