cinephile,

Great poll!

I'm inclined to vote for Rita Moreno. However, there are many acting legends on your list so I could easily change my mind.

The minimum is now a 61 years long career.

Karl Maden, Anthony Hopkins, Bob Hope were deleted from the list.

They played leading roles and have been in the film industry longer than Bob Hope, Karl Maden, and Anthony Hopkins. There is no objective reason to ban them from the list.

For what motif should I ban them?? On the basis that they are Indian and some speculations saying that they won't get any votes, I can't do that, I'm gonna look racist.

FYC: Alan Arkin, he has 63 years and counting if you count a small uncredited role as a singer in 1957, otherwise he's out.

Gloria Stuart 72 years from her first to her last credit.

Dick van Dyke, 63 and counting

Gloria Henry, 65 years

Earl Cameron, 62 years

Johannes Heesters, 87 years

Milton Berle, 86 years

Curt Bois, 84 years

Gisele Casadesus, 83 years

Maxine Hicks, 81 years (but with a huge gap between two periods so I'm not sure if she counts.

I added Alan Arkin and Dick van Dyke.

Now, I only accept actors in the Top 5000 of popularity. so these are out.

Gloria Stuart (Out)

Gloria Henry (Out)

Earl Cameron (Out)

Johannes Heister (Out)

Milton Berle (Out)

Curt Bois (Out)

Gisele Casadeux (Out)

Maxine Hicks (Out)

The list was going overboard, so I changed the criteria.
These are the current rules:

1) Played leading roles in several movies

2) 60 years or more of career

3) In the Top 5000 of popularity.

If the list hits the 35 option maximum again, the next actors to go are the ones that began or ended their career with uncredited roles such as Tippi Hedren and Alan Arkin.

I can't do miracles, it might be disappointing, but you suggested yourself apply the STARmeter criteria, I won't change the rules only to put one actor on the list.

You should consider an actors starmeter.

I don't have IMDBpro, I can't analyze their popularities by year as you do.

Awh... wait.. noooo!
How can any true Star Trek fan choose between Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner?

SUGGESTION:  Make lists shorter by dividing up amongst those living, and those which have departed?  2 polls.

After thinking, I have come to a conclusion.

It would be stupid to exclude Bob Hope only on his STARmeter, as you pointed out he maintained great popularity during decades.

So this is what I think, there is only one actor with the minimum 60 credits in this list. (Anthony Hopkins). I believe that I could raise the criteria to "More than 60 years long acting career" in this way Anthony Hopkins is sadly discarded from the list, but I obtain a more justifiable reason to exclude Bob Hope.

I think that you will be disappointed, but this is the fairest solution that I found.

I added:

Lois Smith

Mel Brooks

James Hong

I haven't added:

Carl Reiner because I doubt that he was for 10 years or more in the Top 5000 of the STARmeter.

Hi, 'good list and a nice idea. : )

'One suggested edit to the intro: (below in bold)

Which of these lead actors with the longest careers is your favorite?

(plural actors can't have "one of the longest careers" - I know what you meant but the words actually said something else)
