Live Poll: Worst Possible Live Action Disney Reboot?

In the past several years, Disney (to a more than moderate critical and/or box office success) is raiding its back catalog of animated features and recreating them into live-action blockbusters: Alice in Wonderland (2010), Cinderella (2015), Dumbo (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), The Lion King (2019) (though arguably there is literally NO aspect of live-action possible in this adaptation), and beyond.

Which of these abominable animated Disney films* ABSOLUTELY SHOULDN'T get a live-action remake from Walt Disney Studios?

*Movies with a 6.0 or less on the IMDb rating scale. No live action/animation hybrids. No sequels.

Thinking about a very limited possibility of letting in the stand-alone Disney straight to DVD/video options to the list (absolutely NO SEQUELS). Yay or nay?

My immediate thought was South of the South.

Jen,

Song of the South (1946) was also my first thought when saw Tsar's poll. I intended to suggest this film when I added the link, but failed to do so since I was falling asleep at the time.

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah is the only thing about the film that Disney still acknowledges.

I'll add it though it will be the exception to the IMdb ratings rule I placed on the list

Thanks Tsar,

Not only would X be one of the worst film for Disney to re-make as a live action reboot, it is probably the least likely film for Disney to re-make as a live action reboot.

"Song of the South" is mostly a live-action film, with the animated tales as part of Uncle Remus' narrative. A personal favorite for me, but I would not want to see a remake of it.

The story: In the 1870s, the Reconstruction Era, a young boy from Atlanta named Johnny receives some bad news from his family. His parents have been having marital difficulties and have agreed to live separately from each other. They are shipping him off to the plantation of his grandmother.

Johnny does not like the life there, with grandma being overly strict, most other people ignoring him, and the tough Favers brothers bullying him. So he tries to run-away from home. He is discovered by Uncle Remus, an elderly sharecropper, who does what no adult ever did before for Johnny: he listens to him and spends time by giving him advice.

The first tale concerns Br'er Rabbit trying to run away, and discovering how dangerous the world can be. Other lessons given by Uncle Remus in the form of tales include having to rely on your own wits, trying to outsmart the bullies, instead of outfighting them, etc.

Basically the old Remus is playing mentor and teaching Johnny how to cope with his problems, instead of becoming a runaway. Imparting the wisdom of a lifetime to a neglected child.

While I have not seen any of these movies, I can't imagine how Planes or any of the Donald Duck films would be good ideas.
If you ask me they should only use movies with actual persons. Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Tangled or even The Black Cauldron can be good ideas. The Lion King, is not, there is no way to be better than the original and having computer animation instead of traditional animation brings nothing special.

Note: I'd imagine that everybody would agree that the only live-action element in the Disney remake of the Disney version of The Lion King would be the backdrops and scenery, because there is, for a number of reasons, essentially zero chance of the studios doing or sponsoring an approach like with Milo and Otis, Babe, Air Bud, The Witches, Look Who's Talking Now or Animal Farm, especially considering how the story of The Lion King is centered around traditionally non-domesticated types of animals. So, it's kind of pointless, and I would be surprised if any performance animals appear at all, and even more surprised if animatronic recreations of animals are used, since Disney is heavily invested in animation and computer-generated imagery, regardless of whether the level of photorealism comes anything close to corporeal things we perceive in our real world.

As much as I hate "Strange Magic," I must say that anything Mickey Mouse is intended for animation only.  Although they are planning a live action "Chip and Dale," but that would be cute.  :)

Stephen: If it hasn't been done already, you should also do a poll for the worst choice for a live action remake of a good animated Disney film. In other words, a film that people enjoyed in its original animated version, but which would not be a good idea to remake in live action.

I totally agree!  I was considering doing one like that myself, but if Stephen does one that's good, too!  There's plenty of live action movies that Disney's done already.  Some, like "Christopher Robin" and "Cinderella" are, in my opinion, great.  But others are downright shameful to their animated counterparts.
