Paris, je t'aime (2006)
(also sorry for suggesting at least two movies from the 21st century on the 20th century poll suggestion: whenever my brain is scrambled due to weather or stress what little I have of math goes first and it shows extremely).

These details are for the simple fact that we are trying to do the best or that are almost there. If this does not have criteria, it will be difficult to explain the point of this poll.
And please, after following these instructions, give me at most three of your best suggestions that you think might be here.

Ernest et Célestine (2012)
Un monstre à Paris (2011) underrated to 6.7 thanks to English dub including songs was mostly used world-wide for localization...
The top 3 of mine among the rest non-animation:
Ne le dis à personne (2006)
Angel-A (2005)
Un long dimanche de fiançailles (2004)
If animations be accepted, I would stay on the above top 3, but sacrificing "Un long dimanche de fiançailles" to the benefit of "Ernest et Célestine".

Did you mean "give suggestions and point out the top 3"?
Or was it "give not more than 3 suggestions"?
If the latter variant, I see no problem to delete my previous message, keeping the first with top 3.

Going by "most recognized," I definitely agree with the suggestions 'Chocolat' and 'The Science of Sleep:' I live in the States and 'Chocolat' was huge (and has a whole lot of votes) and 'The Science of Sleep' was relatively well known.
FYC: (Based on your "most recognized" criteria - but they're very good films, too)
The Class (definitely)
Cache (definitely)
Incendies (although this may be Canadian, actually: I'm not sure)
Chocolat (definitely)
The Science of Sleep
May I suggest one small edit? ('below in bold -- just a semi-colon instead of a comma)

Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Intouchables (2011)
La vie d'Adèle (2013)
which initially are in this poll ))
I'd vote for Amélie Poulain, but logically understand the winner will be Intouchables...
C'est la vie.
