Thank you for suggesting this politician, but I can't remember him. I just ask myself how he could be a person of international interests? I must admit, that I didn't always have the whole world on the radar, but please tell me more about him. Fromm all the others on the list I saw news about what happened. This politician seems to work in the background, is it?

Not in the background at all, he was President of Brazil from 2003 to 2011. While this is mostly in the wrong decade, he was also influential during the 2010's.

He turned his country into the 8th biggest economy of the world, and was essential for Rio to win the 2016 Summer Olympics.

After leaving the presidency he was chief of staff for his succesor, Dilma Roussef, until he was accused of a corruption scandal and put in prison, but many believe he's innocent.

During the 2018 presidential campaign, that eventually was won by Bolsonaro, Lula intended to be a candidate and was by far more popular, reaching 33% of the vote intention over Bolsonaro's 15%. He was, however, forced to abandon the campaign after going into prison.

He was freed in 2019, but the issue is bound to remain giving news for a lot of time.

There's also a Netflix series, O Mecanismo, a dramatic fiction based on the real case corruption scandal
And the Oscar nominee Documentary The Edge of Democracy is about him. So you can say he is also influential in movies.
