Guidelines:

*Performances by actors under the age of 18 in a feature film.

______
If you need some ideas to start generating other ideas, as well, this list is pretty good, although it only features kids in well-known US films: https://www.fandango.com/movie-photos/20-great-performances-from-child-actors-219 (So it has its limits.)

Great stuff Ruby! It's hard to just pick one as there really are so many memorable child performances out there but for now I'll go with Haley Joel Osment's performance as Cole Sear in The Sixth Sense (1999). He displayed maturity far beyond his years and gave an extremely powerful performance, I was blown away the first time seeing it.

Oh, I know, he was incredible. He showed great range and authenticity and sensitivity, too. I'm only saying this because you said "for now:" feel free to change. I still keep thinking of performances for the adults and it's been weeks, I think, for those polls.

Beautifully put and I agree wholeheartedly. Would have loved to see him win the Best Supporting Oscar for the role.

Oh, Addie Loggins is one of the great characters of cinema, I think, and of course Tatum O'Neal is an essential part of that. That performance is almost like the prototypical or classical child performance. For the longest time, my favorite performances of young children include O'Neal's Addie, the actor who played Scout in To Killl a Mockingbird, the actor who played Billy in Kramer vs. Kramer, and and two of the children in Salaam Bombay! They all still are along with a few additions, now, including Osment, Dakota Fanning in I am Sam, and my choice for this poll, Brooklynn Prince in The Florida Project.

Hi Dan, do you have favorite actor and actress performances as well? Would be nice if you can join in this lists.

There are so many great ones, but I have to go with Henry Thomas in E.T.:

Maybe not Oscar material, but I really enjoyed the performance of Ed Oxenbould in The Visit (2015). He made me laugh all the time. And I think he made the movie.
Please add this one for me.

And thanks for the link and the mention to my idea. This child poll is also a very nice idea! I hope you’ll get many contributions.

You're welcome and thank you for inspiring the idea - and for your nomination. I didn't know how to feel about that movie except that it was creepy, disturbing, and subtly funny at the beginning -- and that the two kids did a great job and redeemed many otherwise repellent scenes. I rated it very low but to this day I don't know if it was because it deserved it, or because it was just too "gross" for me, or because I was on an incredibly bad date, lol. I remember I laughed toward the very beginning because of your suggested actor and my date just sat there, poker-faced, like he just didn't get it.

No contest, Ricky Schroeder in the Champ, that his performance wasn't nominated is beyond me (well, it's because Justin Henry was already nominated for Kramer vs. Kramer) but Schroedr's acting at the end of the champ is just too real for words

That movie made me cry so hard - largely because of Ricky Schroder.

If you have favorite actor and actress performances, then I like to hear them! I can add them in the other lists.

What a great suggestion. Her performance is as nuanced and skilled as a classically trained adult. No wonder she's such an icon - she's a natural.

Yes, I couldn't believe she was 14 year old when she made this. Just amazing and just to add on she had a total of 5 movies that released in 1976.

Wow, looks like a great film, and looks like my kind of film; I added it to my watchlist. Right now, the only photo associated with the movie is on the list as a place-holder.  I  found several good photos, online, of Eadie in the film and submitted them so hopefully t can add one of those pictures soon.

Keisha Castle-Hughes has a beautiful acting in Whale Rider and she really manages to make you cry in her best scene. I nominate her.
